If a telco move you to another plan and is a "detrimental" impact (negative), they need to notify you usually 30 days before the change

If this never happened all the fees are void, tio complaint

That excess charge is bs.. I hate unreliable customer service from cheap telco.. The Aldi one was terrible too

      Who would you recommend instead?

  • Anyone know if there is a plan change fee for existing customers? And how do you actually change? Doesn't seem possible from within their panel and their support ends at 5pm… riiight.

      From their FAQ:

Can I change my plan once I’ve connected?
Modified on: Thu, 22 Oct, 2015 at 3:52 PM

It is possible to change to a lower plan on some of our month by month product at any time from the first day of the next calendar month. The normal $10 plan change fee applies. Once you have moved to a lower rate plan it is not possible to move back up to the plan you started on. It is not possible to change to a higher mobile plan with Vaya so please choose you plan carefully to ensure your plan selected suits based on your projected monthly spend plus a buffer zone.

So essentially what they are saying is humanity can send probes to other planets, discover other planets around distant stars, and yet cannot upgrade you to a higher plan once you've locked yourself in for the lifetime you are with them.

      • I read that too. Yet their fee page says the plan change fee is $5.

        Who knows?

    i think i will stay with my optus unlimited 10gb plan @ $40 a month…. :)

Vaya have questionable ethics ("safety deposits", later to be revealed that they had huge liabilities). Private data stored in a questionable way. (Password resets in plain text) Also you can never close your account. Save the hassles and port to Jeenee if you can get the deal they were offering last month.

    • You can never close your account? I just signed up with them two months ago… What if I port out? My account still there?

      • You will live on for an eternity.

        • lol, that does not sound good. Oh well already in. Normally people just unhappy with the exiting process? Happy with the service on the mobile so far, no need to make any changes or ask any questions. Knock wood it says painless.

@plague69: Exiting process usually causes a lot of issues however a lot of people have been with Vaya for a while and did not enjoy the safety deposit or Ben's snarky comments. (Ben was the founder and often posted ridiculous statements on whirlpool)

        • @machej: deposit of $20 I preferred not to give, but at the time they said and I believed 100% that it would be refundable. Now I'm not too sure

Also the strange charges on the account is a cause for worrie as well. I will comb through last months statement (once I find out how to get it) didn't even check how much they charged… Silly me

Anyway, I appreciate you taking the time to give us all a heads up. Thanks

Horrible, horrible company. Avoid at all costs. Speaking from personal dealings with them.

Agree vaya is not a bargain

  • +3

Vaya is terrible. This post should be deleted, to save people grief.

    • Thanks to this post I am now going to follow up my apparently illegal $20 mobile 'prepayment' fee :)

    Vaya's definition of customer service:

Call them and be placed in a queue. After a period of time a recorded message will be triggered saying "Sorry, we are busy at the moment, please call back at another time". Your call will then be dropped. I can think of no other business that does this. It's staggering. It's also my go to story about poor customer service process.

… but it sure gets their average wait time down doesn't it. Better for that Exec team bonus ;)

  • Just want to add that Amaysim (ASX AYS) bought over Vaya recently so the introduction of new unlimited plans are expected! I'm confident customer service will improve. My partner and I have been with vaya for 5 months. You get what you pay for. No issues.

  • any idea how i go about changing from my flexicap plan..?

    Vaya are terrible

  • We recently switched 3 numbers from Optus pre-paid to Vaya, after reading a bunch of deal posts.

But I am now with a lot of regrets after reading your comments.

In hindsight, I wish we had gone for Jeenee instead.

$18 for 300 more MB, there doesn't seem to be any cons.

Can any of you please recommend/advice how I go about minimising costs for switching 3 numbers from Vaya to Jeenee?

    • I don't see what everyone is on about. Been with Vaya for probably a year now, got a relative onto it just last month, no complications thus far. Things might be difficult if/when we change but so far I can't complain about anything.

  • The plans seen to be good value. I smile reading the angry rants- it seems that Vaya indeed had some issues initially. One thing that bugs me, why do the rates go up all the while? (Used to be cheap three/ four yrs back).
Anyway, I couldn't be happier- with Virgin no contacts plan from whenever they started service. Get 450 AUD worth of calls and carry over credit, plus 2.25 GB on the Optus 4G network.
Currently, 1GB Guvera bonus bumps it to 3.25GB.
All for the princely sum of 19 AUD.
(My current usages shows AUD 56.04 of AUD 842.56 used, with data 1.28 GB of 3.25 GB used, 13 days to go in the billing cycle.)
Even my son pays more and gets less data.

  • Vodafone gave $35 for 12 months with 10gig unlimited talk text. It was the $40 plan that they reduced to $35.

  • Have 3 numbers on the $18 plan with Vaya for over a year for both my kids & as well as dad….work flawlessly. Got internantional roaming on Dad's for 3 months when he was overseas…paid $200 deposit to start service which was refunded once i cancelled it. Not once have i paid extra for excess downloads..

  • Vaya and Liveconnected are horrid. Surprised they are still in business.

  • I'm a Vaya customer myself and I have to say they seem really shady with everything they have done, their customer service is poor at best, and their coverage isn't the best. But for the price when I signed up they were the best value.
But reading these comments these guys seem to have the best deal out https://www.jeenee.org.au - I'll probably switch asap.

    • Watch out before you switch to jeenee. From their critical info sheet you cannot make international calls from their service and their excess data charges are 4c per mb. That's $40 a gb. 4x more than Vaya.

  • Stay far far away from Vaya, most terrible experience with a service provider of any kind, continually ripped my partner and I off on many occasions, random fees and deposits which we didn't get back

    • U mean amaysim. They are the same company mate.

All these ppl having a bitch about Vaya is music to my ears. Vaya used to suck with customer services bcos they were the best value for money out and could not handle the volume. No all the whingers have peed off their service is great. Hardly any wait time on the phone and things get done more quickly.

    • +1

All due respect mate, count yourself lucky because clearly you're the exception here, they introduced their random fees and security deposits to ALL customers. That being said if you're happy with them then all the best

  • +2

Vaya systematically overcharged users who leave them. If you don't go over your pro-rata for your final month, your last bill should be a pro-rata refund as their services are charged a month in advance. 9 out of 10 users would be unaware of this & wouldn't question it. I had to go to the TIO to get my money back. Avoid Vaya.

  • +1

Rubbish value!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, I had 2 phones with Vaya on an old power plan, the catch is that if you are on a Power Plan you cant upgrade to a Unlimited Plan even if you quit and rejoin. I found the current Optus plans better value with unlimited calls and more data. http://www.optus.com.au/shop/mobilephones/SimBYO Changed over from Vaya to Optus last week.

  • Neg vote because low cost (in an already competitive environment) should not lead to such atrocious customer support and ethics.

They had huge liabilities when they were sold and with the way they treat customers, the value of the these customers certainly reflect the low cost of their plans…

  • If you're going with Vaya, you're going there because of the low cost. Customer service is more miss than hit, depending who you get. But it's the cheapest. So, there's a tradeoff. Whether that's a risk you want to take, that's up to you.

I'm waiting for a deal that's unlimited phone/text, with 3gb data for $20 a month. I think it will happen.

    • Live Connected before Vaya took them over were low cost and did not notoriously overcharge. Vaya are incredibly dishonest.

      • I agree, point here is, leave Live Connected, I'm not sure why there's different pricing models.

WARNING DON'T SIGN UP WITH THIS COMPANY!! Personal experience with this bad company. Numerous complaints about this company and their bad services. They continued to charge me for three months when I already cancelled services. I removed direct debit on cancellation and they still direct debit from my credit card. I complained on there Facebook, they block me and removed my comments.

    • Did you chargeback because you have every right to? Also take it to the TIO.

  • Vaya is ethically horrible and has shameful customer service
