What if you only have a small deck?

    • +10

Then it's just not worth building at all :)

    • +4

Then one box will be sufficient.

      • +2

        500 screws per box - that's a lot!!

        • -1

          8 per metre of deck.

        • @nocure:

          8 per metre of deck.

          length or width?

        • @jv:
          Length…and they should be pre-drilled.

        • @nocure: That works at 2 screws at 250mm spacing - typically is 450mm spacing so 4.5 per metre (but allow 5-6 to allow for extra at ends of each plank)

        • +2

If you spread it out over 20 years it's not too bad.

      • Its rock science aint it….

        lol

I hate animals on my deck… except for dogs.
If you spill something on your deck, it'll lick it clean…

Sounds like something Mitchell Pearce might say if he was a Kiwi…

        • Except he's from NSW, so that is exactly what he said …

    • Its not the size of the deck that counts. Its the way you use it

    • JV, dont be a clever deck ;).

    • -1

Replace the word "deck" with "dick" for all your comments and lol

          @btdroppedbox

That's pretty much the whole point to this thread mate. You are stating the plainly obvious…. just look at all the innuendo posted below as well. That's the joke :).

If you're near Nerang Q. go to the nut and bolt shop on Spencer Dve. their regular price is this, or less (depends on type).

Buy the product, don't buy the product.

i wasn't aware you should wash your deck with soap and water. thanks.

      • +3

Really? I wash my deck daily with soap and water. Maybe more often if I use these cheap screws.

        • +1

Can you post some pictures of your deck?

        • +6

Dilute napisan in warm water then wash your deck with it. Then rinse off thoroughly.

Napisan has the same key ingredient as decking cleaner. But decking cleaner is 4 times the price.

          @nocure:

Don't know why you were negged. It's a nice deck. Be sure to put some protection on it when it's fully laid. My deck is rotting away, unfortunately. Now I can't use it. even if I wanted to. Used it a lot after the wedding, but not so much after the kid was born. Eventually, just stopped using it. Now, I almost forget that I have one.

        • +1
        • @nocure: I love seeing deck pics… Especially hardwood.

        • @subywagon:
Plenty of pics…it's a big deck.

        • @nocure: I bet your big deck has trouble staying dry

        • @nocure:

Oil up! Your deck will love it!

        • @strangeloops66:
Once every six months is plenty.

    • LMAO =D =D =D

    • LOL thats exactly what I was thinking of when I seen this post!

  • Any in NSW? I've used 4000 screws on my new deck so far and need 500-1000 more. Is a great price!

  • +4

Wonder why it was reported. Maybe a case of Small deck syndrome

  • It is worth noting that these are not ordinary screws.
You require a specific driver for them, as ordinary blade/phillips head drivers will NOT work.
    They are a square drive.

    • +3

Pack contains two square drive bits , if you have a lot of screwing to do its best to grab a longer bit from the tool shop.

    • The perks of being a square

      • Stop screwing around

    • If you're buying packs this size it's usually for decking. Never use Philips for decking. Square or Torx.

  • Is this nation-wide?

Funny the sign says assorted and they are all the same type.

    • Why is that funny?

      • +2

Spoiler: Because they're not the same type.

    • +2

Funny the sign says assorted and they are all the same type.

What do you think those other boxes to the right are? Goldfish?

      • I can't see them, can you?

        • I can't see them, can you?

Seriously? There must be a spec savers bargain on here somewhere, would you like me to find it for you?

        • @Maverick-au: OK let me spell it out for you smarty, you cannot see what the sign underneath the boxes to the right says, yes that one that is half there and half not there, can you see it? Good. Now you cannot see what it says and if it is the same offer or not right? Now take your glasses off.

        • @BestofOZB:

Given that the other pack appears to say DECKING on the side you can see that they are also decking screws so your claim that there were not assorted fasteners was incorrect. The deal was for these fasteners and the OP kindly posted a photo to support his post. You tried to pick holes in it by posting useless information that turned out to be incorrect. They are clearly selling off assorted fasteners and we can see at least two types of decking screw in the photo.

        • +1

          @Maverick-au:

I can confirm the sign next to it says $40

Also, there were other boxes of screws and bolts behind the stainless steel ones

  • +1

Always suspected there were so many deck heads on ozbargain

  • Can anyone please suggest how many screws I might need for 4 meter X 3 meter Deck?

    • Since they come in 500s you will need two box's

      • -4

Since they come in 500's you will need two boxes

        Fixed!

        • -1

Since they come in 550's you will need two boxes.

Fixed ".", and if you're going to bother spell checking people on an internet forum, you better be 100% correct :).

        • -1

          @UFO: 550's? You were saying?

        • @spillmill:

          omg.

That's the joke bud… hence my smiley face. Nevermind, point completely missed I see. Have a good one.

  • Anyone know if these are too long for a typical merbau screening job (as opposed to decking)

    • When it comes to screws, size never matters, only the number you get only counts.

    • How thick is the merbau screening? Guessing 19mm or less (is standard) so it depends on what you are screwing the screening onto? If it is thick posts then these will do the job, if it is simply vertical pieces of the same merbau then no these are too long.

      • I haven't bought the materials yet, so I am not sure what people use for the structure or what would be a standard or good enough thickness for the structural pieces

  • try these on for size - on clearance

You probably want 10g for decking. 7g may not be strong enough and may break. (Note: I'm far from an expert in deck building but from what I've heard, you want at least 10g).

      • +1

Correct…8g or bigger for hardwood but it still has to be predrilled , the 7g will be fine for softwoods such as pine and Oregon.

  • Have tradies in the family and they will only use stainless steel square drive screws (not just on decking but most things) - just superior in every way they reckon. So stock up if you can.

  • Went to north lakes to grab some. In true masters style, these scan at $30 not $20…. Got staff to correct price. Only 4 boxes left at 5pm

    • Ha-ha these truly have been oz bargained. I purchased 3 boxes 2 weeks ago and then another last night and the pile hasn't really changed during that while time.

Next minute, i put it on oz bargain, and now only a few boxs left. Legendary!

      • +1

        Agreed. Great find!! Thanks

  • Oh don't I wish they had this price at HOME, so I could go "SCREW you guy I'm going HOME" :(
