HOMTOM HT7 5.5" 720p Phablet (Android 5.1, MTK6580, 3000mAh) $57 USD (~$82 AUD) Delivered @ Aliexpress

110

I saw this pop up and thought that this is a hell of a lot of smartphone for the money. I have no idea if this is the best price or even a "deal" really, but I can think of much worse devices for $82 delivered. TLDR it's a budget phablet so don't expect much, biggest compromise of course is the inability to use Optus 3G (you can forget 4G at this price point), only 1GB of RAM, and questionable software (although they do seem to keep it to AOSP). It does have a MicroSD card slot and a removable battery though.

I did find a review here: http://www.xiaomitoday.com/homtom-ht7-review/

    1gb ram. enuff said.

plenty of 1gb ram phones under 90 aud you can get locally. (zte fit, alcatel pixi 4.5)

    • Yeah but not with a 5.5 screen like this one, although lack of 4G is the real deal breaker here.

    • True, but are they quad core, dual SIM or 64GB SD and running Lollypop?

      • pretty much except for dual sim. but they are 4G

My concern is lack of ROM support. If it's not a popular, you're not going to get any upgrades at all.

It's basically AOSP, and isn't too hard to get root and TWRP. Should be OK. Someone posted the stock ROM on Needrom

  • Bands:
    2G: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz
    3G: WCDMA 850/1900/2100MHz

good phone for kids though..and at that price less than the cost of a new screen after they drop your good phone for the millionth time.

    • +1

u can get tablets that are cheaper.

      • True that…but no sim card capability.

        • oh i thought your kids just take your good phone to play games then dropping it :P

    • Comes with a case and screen protector too.

  • Hahahahaha people actually expect 4G and 2GB+ RAM in something this cheap? The profit margin on this is significantly low. Much like a Xiaomi.

    • Don't expect 2G ram at this price point but certainly 4G like 1 and 2

      • $69 and $66 for the 4G. I'll rephrase and say… don't expect 4G 700MHz at this price point.

        • +1

Y635, ZTE Fit and Buzz ($45-99) have 700MHz and are on special quite often which works out cheaper than the one in this deal.

        • @adr8: Locally, but not overseas.

        • Yes, this is the only Phablet at the same price point though. Not everyone needs super fast 4G. My dad for example uses his phone for calls, SMS and the occasional Google News and Maps, but he needs a big screen with his eyesight. With the 3G networking becoming less congested with everyone moving to 4G it's not so bad.

      Read it as HOTMOM tbh

      • Haha.

It's actually made by Doogee. They've been in the budget smartphone game for a while.

        http://www.doogeemobile.com/doogee-homtom-ht7.html

Edit: After taking another look I've realised this is an LG V10 clone. Was wondering why it looked familiar.

        • Dodgee

      • dOoGee HOTMOM loves Ainol.

    • And the manufacturer is called DOOGEE.

      • Doogee? They should get Neil Patrick Harris on board.

Lmfao… The names of these dirt cheap garbage chinese junk brands crack me up.

          @mattlol:
HOMOTOM is so dOoGee coz he loves Ainol.

  • Looks pretty aesthetically pleasing for the price too, even if it is a knock off of the LG phone.

    • Yup. LG V10 knockoff

  • Does anyone have experience with GPS on budget mediatek devices? I'm interested in maybe buying one as a spare device for GPS duties in the car.
