Great price! Bought one for my mum from HN for $99 last week.. Love the waterproof and 1 year battery life.

My father loves the heck out of it. It is definitely the best and most reliable unit to get for people that just need something that works and won't fail on them. My friends in retail that sell both the Fitbit and the Garmin tell me that the Garmin gets returned substantially less than the Fitbits. Although, for someone who is younger and has a big social circle using the fitbit social network then it might make sense to go down the Fitbit path.

Yeah my mums loving it so far!
I was thinking of getting the vivosmart ~ can get it for about $125 from HN but still wondering if I need it or not haha

the Garmin gets returned substantially less than the Fitbits

Is that perhaps because they sell more Fitbits than Garmins? The proportion of each product sold that is returned due to problems would be required to be known to make any valid conclusions about relative reliability. Unfortunately, these types of figures aren't generally available.

Just got one, great unit. Fitbit aren't water proof - I don't believe it!

Add a $1 item and you can get the vivoactive for $240 - RRP $359

    • how does this work - spend $80 and get another offer ?

      • The vivoactive is also on sale for $299, down from $339 markmac1. If you add a $1 item that makes it $300 before taking $20 off for each $100 spend - resulting in $240

        • I only get to $280 for the vivoactive … when I add the "Family20" coupon it subtracts the $20 not 3x $20 … or am I using the wrong deal?

        • @mini_wombat: I'd have thought it was $20 per $99, though perhaps it is $20 off minimum spend of $99. Do you have the option to check in store? I don't see any T&C's unfortunately.

        • +2

@cornbeef: It' unfortunately only $20 for any purchase over $99 … :-( Otherwise we would have lots of great deals.

        • @mini_wombat: yeh 20% off would have been nice

I have the vivoactive and it's great. The screen isn't the best but if you're looking for a fitness tracker with GPS look no further. The Garmin Connect smartphone app works well with it.

I can attest to these being great units. $80 is a great price as I got one for $70 from gumtree a while ago (unused present). I upgraded from the Xiaomi Mi Fit and chose the Vivofit 2 over the Fitbit Charge HR.

    Positives:
    - sturdy and waterproof
    - screen visible in outdoor light, when very bright you can use the backlight (also larger letters compared to the fitbit charge)
    - year long battery with simple cell swap when it runs out
    - looks quite minimalist and not daggy at all
    - the locking system is both comfortable AND secure unlike the Mi Fit models
    - fairly easy to operate with a single button controller
    - manual force sleep mode for those arvo naps
    - MOVE meter that reminds you to stay active if you are inactive for too long
    - software available on PC, Android and IOS

    Negatives:
    - only manual sync (not too bad as it conserves battery and I don't need realtime updates anyway)
    - no custom alerts for apps etc like you can for Mi Fit
    - software is a bit behind the Fitbit but usable nonetheless (recently updated with many more features)
    - no in built HR but you can purchase any strap on HR kit and it will sync with that

If you need more features like hear rate sensors and notifications then I would recommend the next model up Garmin Vivosmart HR @ $209. However these can be had new for about $150-190 on Ebay.

Happy to answer other questions if anyone is interested in these units.

It has auto sync. Not live but it syncs periodically automatically. Manual sync is available as well. Vivofit 1 only had a manual option.
      Fantastic product btw.

      • Really? I'll try leaving the Bluetooth on and see if it auto syncs throughout the day. Thanks for the heads up. It didn't state this in the manual.

        • Yeah it does. I am not sure how often it does it though. Manual is silent on frequency.

      • Ours has never auto synced once in two months despite Garmin saying it does. It seems many people have the same issue.

    Hackers?

  • It's says $99 not $79??

    • add coupon code FAMILY20 for $20 off apparently.

    • Use FAMILY20 code

  • Okay thanks.

  • Does this device has only one size or both small and large like the other Vivo one? I have small wrists so would like to know if there's a small one.

    • +3

It comes with both large and small bands.

      • Thanks. Will get the small one.

        • +8

I meant the box contains both small and large so no need to worry as they can be swapped.

        • @fryandlaurie: O, I see. That's even better. Ta

  • Can't check out somehow

Great price. I got mine from HN for 96 at Christmas a love it. Not having to recharge the battery is great.

    • How does it recharge?

      • it doesn't.

You need to replace the 2 cell batteries after 1 year.

        • oooothanks

  • Anyone get the auto sync to work? I've had it since the start of Jan and hasn't auto synced a day yet….

    • What is the work around?

    • Mine just works (with an S6) never had a problem but there seems to be a few posts about it not working for everyone.

Work around is just a manual sync, which is just pressing the button for a few seconds…

      • Ordered one :D thanks

  • Ordered one, thanks!

  • Thanks, just purchased.

Mine is ready for pickup already, nice I wish I could +1 this twice as I'll be having fun this weekend doing blocks around my lounge room to get my steps up until I pass out.

    • how do u like the device so far?

      pros and cons?

      • +1

I don't really realise it's on me, app and synching is fine apart from what I've read online for what it is at 79$ it's pretty good knowing I'll never really take it off.

Step counting seems to be pretty accurate. Ummm it's pretty simple really one thing it has is a little red bar that builds up when you haven't moved for a while it seems to be getting me to move more often which is a good thing.

I don't really have anything bad to say to be honest but now I sound like way too much of a fan boy lol.

        • pro and cons?

          how is auto sync?

I really wanted to buy it but lacks features from reviews i read

          waitin for next version

      • did u get it shipped or pickup?
