    +From me :)

Worth $30, could very easily buy a $2 sim to get this :)

Works on PS3/4, XB1 etc, which is handy compared to Presto

    • +1

      I watch Presto on PS4

      • +2

        Commiserations. ;)

  • How much variety is there in terms of movie, tv show listing compared to netflix?

    • +18

      enough to justify the $0

      • Or $2.

        • you may get the 'trouble' later on

        • -5

          @skayper:

          Not if you stream

        • +1

@Serapis: I cannot believe people seriously think this.
You're still not getting the content from a licensed source and streaming is still downloading.

        • @stickyfingers:

          Agreed.
Consider it eating your groceries inside the supermarket and then walking out. It's still stealing.

        • -1

          @Martijn:

          Moral viewpoints aside:

Not recognized by legislation as a crime (yet) & would be difficult for a company to prove losses from you as a viewer (much different than torrenting).

        • @stickyfingers:

It was in response to this:

you may get the 'trouble' later on

Would not be a problem unless legislation is passed recognising this as a crime.

        • +1

          @Martijn:

There may or may not be a missed sale/foregone revenue involved but clearly it's not 'stealing'. I guess if you 'murder' someone, they're still alive and unharmed afterwards?

I actually find Stan really good (got the 6 month free trial). Much better than Presto, not sure how it compares to Aus netflix but it has plenty to watch

      • Yeah I am most of the way through the Presto 6 month, no way I will be renewing. A few decent shows and some old movies

How did you get 6 months Stan?

  • -2

i just left optus. id prefer to pay for stan then use on their network

  • I registered for Optus Perks a few days ago (still waiting for the Stan code though)…I used an old sim / number from the three months free Netflix deal last year ;)

Bugger…. shame we cannot stack them like could be done with Netflix!!

On a side note Stan content has improved a GREAT deal… shame their app/software is still WAAAY behind Netflix. Barely improved since launch a year ago.

    • +1

At least it doesn't require Silverlight anymore…

  • No amazon fire TV support, boooo

    • Ooo, but just noticed ps3 support. Might give it a crack

  • Is there a definitive searchable list of all the movies/tv shows Stan has?

I found https://www.comparetv.com.au/stan-tv/complete-tv-show-and-mo… but I'm not sure how up to date it is

    • +1

One more link down on Google and there's this site which is working very well for me - it lets you search anything and shows what streaming sites have it, but you can filter just to see what Stan has

i love how i always see FREE stan, presto, quickflix deals everywhere, and even then i think 'this aint a bargain' and ignore it..

    • Stan is quite good at the moment, got some great shows and exclusive ones.

I might let it renew. It's so fairly cheap.

  • I have Presto free for 3 months. Its interface is garbage and a sufferance to use.
I haven't investigated how much a monthly sub of Presto is, but if you can't be as good as the industry leader
you damn well better be a lot cheaper.
I've heard of people getting stung for a bill before their full time was over, so cancel a little early I'd suggest…

    • This is Stan…
But yeah, Presto sucks (except for a few good shows).

      • oh LOL sorry. Well now I feel dumb.
Regarding Presto, the wife loves Wentworth and I have Regular Show =)

    • Do yourself a favour and watch True Detective and Mr. Robot and then chuck your membership

Has anyone not received a code yet? I'm already an optus perks member but haven't received anything about Stan.

    • I'm a perks member and no code yet.

  • According the the t&c's in order to get the 3 months free your need to provide credit card details on sign up. I read it on the optus perks website but its not explicitly said on the t&c's on this post.

If you go to the store and purchase a stan gift card and sign up to stan you don't get a free month for signing up unless you provide credit card details.

If you go to the store and purchase a Netflix gift card and sign up to Netflix with the gift card they still give you one months free for signing up and don't require a credit card.

I don't think a potential customer should necessarily lose an incentive because of the payment method they choose. I understand that some people might be ok with giving out their credit card details but not everyone wants to do that.

    • Just get a reloadable prepaid credit card for things like this. Problem solved.

      • Disagree. Rather not have the hassle of getting something I don't need. Not problem solved.

  • I'm a bit confused. I am currently on a 3 month trial which I obtained through this deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/227218) and that doesn't expire until late March. Does adding the Optus deal cancel the rest of my trail? The fine print says "Subscribers who set up their Stan account using the Promotional Subscription (either new subscribers or re-activating subscribers) are not eligible for a 30 day free trial." and there is no other mention of my type of situation!

    • +1

I'm in the same boat too. I presume that, should the Optus code not stack, close to 30 days after receiving the Optus code, you'd cancel the existing sub and renew using the Optus code.

But alas I can't test, because Optus Perks hasn't emailed me a code yet…

(Still, Optus Perks comes from a $2 SIM and a monthly $5 500MB top up for my iPad so going to the movies once a month pays for itself…)

  • +2

Weird. I thought they were a Netflix ISP partner.

  • +3

Just in time for Better call Saul

  • Sounds good, but how long does it take or how easy is it to cancel your membership and delete your cc details once your free membership is almost up?

    • +1

      Very easy.
Done it several times with 3 and 2 month trials.

    • +1

U don't even need to wait near end, u cancel online in your account anytime but still use it till the last day. It gives you a warning something like "are u sure u wanna miss out on all these shows?" But very easy.

  • Strange, I just signed up through the Stan website last week and got 3 months free without having to do anything!

  • Has been just over 72 hours since I signed up, and still no code.

Anyone actually got a code yet?

    • Same here, but I'll just pretend they meant business days and hope for it by Monday night. Automatic emails gotta have time off too, right?

  • Anyone else still waiting on their code?

    • I think everyone is still waiting?

Seen a few posts on the Optus Community forums too…a lot of them called or used the chat, but Optus reps don't appear to know anything about it.

I'm in no hurry, so won't waste my time calling them yet.

    • Received my code via SMS and email yesterday.

      • Hmmm…seems like those who signed up before February are getting their codes now…will wait it out a bit longer…

  • Just received a code via SMS

    • When did you sign up to Optus Perks?

      • When it first became available

  • I just got my code, but have been registered with Optus Perks since it was a thing :)

  • I've been registered with Optus Perks for a couple of months - received the SMS for the Stan offer two days ago and an email today.

  • If anyone has a spare code, please let me know!

    • +1

Got sent one a few days ago but I've already got netflix. PM me for it :)

      • Messaged you :)

  • Does any one know where to buy the $2 sim card? or has a spare code to share?

    • K-Mart had them on sale for 15c last time I was there

  • Am I the only one who's yet to receive a code? I've been an Optus Perks member since it started but they haven't sent me anything yet :(

    • No - I haven't either (ironically).

I've sent an email to Optus Perks querying this and told they're contacting Stan on my behalf…

      • Optus' CSR emailed me a coupon today… :-)

        • I emailed them on the 29th still no response emailed them today to remind them that they've not responded.
Did they work out why you did not get a coupon

        • +1

@melmac77: No explanation of why no coupon arrived through the initial batch. However, I successfully applied it to my account.

        • @MELso:

Woot got my code today :)

        • @melmac77: Good stuff! So many freebies from telcos recently. Love it!

  • When I registered for Optus Perks it told me that I needed to respond to the activation email, but I don't have one? I only have my prepaid number activation email (which I activated 30 minutes before.

Anyone know if I should have got one of these already? I am worried that maybe the Perks site doesn't see that my number is active yet, and that it might not come. Can anyone let me know how their process went?

  • I just redeemed my code today. Anyone able to help me around when I can cancel it? Do they need a minimum notice before cancellation or anything or can I cancel it a few days prior to free 3 months expiring i.e. around 10-June-2016. Thank you!

  • Can I start the trial https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/177998 for 30 days, and cancel it in the end, and in the next day re-activate using this offer, to get a combined 4 months free stan subscription?

    • that's what I did, however you've probably left it too late to do that as most of the Optus codes had to be applied to an account by early april mine has a date of april 7th

  • If anyone has a spare code would be eternally grateful! PM me if you do.
    Cheers
