CRUSHONYOU

Myer eBay is currently listing the Lego Kwik-E-Mart set for $263.20 (20% off from RRP of $329), with free standard delivery. Stacking it with the current 10% promotion brings it down to around $236 (even less with cash rewards). Excellent price for this set, lowest it's been in a long time (probably lowest price ever, domestically), even beating ShopForMe's sweet 25% off for this set that they ran about a month ago.

      Reckon you're wrong.

This reckoning is pretty easy stuff.

        • +10

          Reckon you need new scales.

Reckon there is probably more to consider than raw plastics costs.

          What do you reckon?

        • It's called licence fees

    • +6

And I'm sure you know all this after your extensive research into Lego's supply chain.

    • +7

I'm sure jv is here just to make annoying comments like this..

      • +3

As they say "ignore the troll"

    • $80k plus to make a Lego mould, for which you need at least one for each piece.

Let's not even go into design, distribution, production, lol

      • -5

$80k plus to make a Lego mould

I was referring to the cost of actually making each product, not of setting up the factory…

How much do you pay for a capacitor ???

Does it cost them less than 30 cents to set up the factory ?

        • +1

          You've lost me

        • -1

          @p1owz0r:

to cost of manufacturing lego sets is probably around $5, paying $200 for them is a huge rip off.

        • +4

@jv: The cost of making a product isn't just the physical plastic. Setting up the factory IS accounted for in the price of the goods, they have to make their money back some how.

If every company charged just the physical cost of the components then noone would have jobs or be in business any more.

Yes, Lego is relatively expensive, but your argument about only paying for the component cost is missing the point.

        • +1

@jv: That's like saying CPUs are a rip-off because they contain a few bits of metal and silicon.

        • -1

          @Strand0410:

I've been saying this for years, sorry but I'm with JV

        • @jv:

How do you make a product from raw materials without designing it and setting up a factory?

        • @aerona: You don't just dig up Lego bricks from the dirt. There's costs involved with buying raw materials, processing, design, manufacture, promotion, packaging, licensing, logistics, etc. All of this adds up. Even the <100 pc knock-off 'Lego' in reject shops are typically more than $5. If JV thinks Lego can sell these profitably at that price, sure, okay.

    • It's about 7 cents per piece, considering how much pieces there are in this set, a really rough estimate would be $152.86. Depending if there's complex segments in fittings etc, could be more. Mass production, that figure would be much less, maybe $80-$120ish. Not sure where $5 came from, maybe Big W's price of $5 for Sunset Overdrive?

    • I'm guessing a lot more than that otherwise the market would be flooded with cheaper alternatives. While there are competitors and knock offs to Lego, none are approaching anywhere near $5 for a larger set.

A lot or maybe even most of the sets nowadays would also carry licensing costs too which wouldn't be insignificant.

Granted, I do feel Lego is expensive too but I'm sure the total costs of getting the product to market are reasonably high, especially for the licensed ranges.

    • How cheaply can you make it?

    • Eh, even assembled you'd probably make your money back by selling it in a few years.

    Who needs the kwik-e-mart?

  • at some point in future, Myer Management will wish they could manage a Kwik-E-Mart.

      do you mean Dick-E-Mart?

  • My housemate recently bought this for cheap and it was quite fun to assemble. It's been ages since I played Lego and though I'm impressed with all the latest creations from Lego, having an instruction manual on how to construct seems like it has taken away the original intention of Lego- freestyle blue sky idea where you just build whatever you can from the pack.

    • Lego has created sets for a very very long time, instruction manual and all. You can buy the sets or they also sell the packs of bulk random blocks to create whatever you like :)

  • Out of stock.

    • Unfortunately scalpers hit this early. There were people buying multiples of 6 right from the get go.

  • While on Lego sale, TwoScoops are offering 20% off their Lego. Don't forget to factory delivery in, about $10.

Edit: no stock for both Simpsons Lego.

These custom sets are horrible. THey have no reuse factor with all their custom bits that only fit together one way. Give me plain bricks and long bits and cut the bullshit custom bits.

    • +3

You don't know what you're talking about. Just look at the parts list. The only truly custom pieces are minifig components. The rest are standard bricks and plates in existing colours. The signage comes from the sticker sheet which you can leave unused.

      • These "custom sets" can also be quite collectible and appreciate in value if held for a while. While this isn't a limited edition like some sets it's likely to be desirable to Simpsons collectors in general over the longer term. I was hoping to get one but missed out by the looks… Ah well lots of other LE sets on my radar :)

        • Yeah, this will appreciate modestly (though I doubt as much as UCS or Modular). Problem is, the profiteers know this too. Just looking at the selling history, some scalper bought 10 of them this morning, which is a real shame because others miss out. I expect them to be re-listed on eBay in a few days.

      • That's not true. I will try and list a few custom bullshit bits here..

        Two blue phones…
All the interior shop stands etc
Whatever is above the garbage on the wall.
        The black contraption behind marg.

The only thing one can build with this set is a quickie mart. If you try and build something half of those prices are useless.

Back in stock right now if someone wants it

  • Never had any plans to buy another Simpson's set but couldn't resist @ 30% off.
After all, I think it's impossible to lose money at this price should I not want it and decide to sell it.

    • how is it 30% off?

      • 20% off from myer, 10% ebay discount.

well not exactly 30% since the 10% is applied to the discounted price, but close enough with cashrewards

  • all gone again

  • No stock - order has been cancelled by Myer (despite my order being one of the first before they released more and more stock), no paypal refund, cannot lodge dispute until after anticipated delivery date ;-(

I have been offered the opportunity to buy the item from store stock (stores still have stock) at the 20% off but appears I may have forfeited my ebay 10% discount.

Have lodged a complaint with Myer who were super nice on the phone - outcome pending.

    • -2

hehe…must have been a bit embarassing when you told them about the lego toy you bought?

    • Myer refunded into paypal the $263.20, then paypal took back the 10%…

Not sure how much stock they had.
