  • Pretty good price…now if only the full size SD was that price instead of $12.95 :(

Why can't you use the micro SD in the adapter? Is there a performance difference or am I missing something?

      • +2

There is no change in performance by using an adapter and for quite a while micro SD cards have been rated at the same speeds as their full size SD cards within the same product tier.

The only reason to buy a full size SD card over a micro SD is if it was cheaper or you have an irrational fear of using an adapter, but even then micro SD cards have been cheaper than regular SD cards for a while due to supply and demand.

TurnipHead made a silly comment, but he's not the only one - there's usually one or two who make that comment in most SD card deals.

      • you can, but some people, myself included, don't like to.

my reasons aren't particularly good, but they're there:
personal preference, the full size are less dinky so harder to lose and break, adapters add another part that can fail.

          1) Put the micro SD card into an adapter and it becomes just as 'hard' to lose and if anything makes it stronger than a normal SD card due to having an additional buffer between the electronics and the shell.

          2) Adapters add another part that can fail? It's just a contact pass through. If there's any damage that could break an adapter then you can sure as hell bet it would break a normal SD card too - but the thing is with a micro SD card you can buy another adapter for less than a dollar shipped, and the full size SD card would just be completely bust.

        • good point on the size thing, one thing i have noticed though is that the adapter slots loosen over time, so eventually they might not hold too well.

i have used 6 adapters so far, 2 have failed, one physically broke apart and the other was plain unreliable. they're hollow and definitely feel less solid than a real card.

        • @baldy: Why not just never take the micro SD card out of the adaptor, so reducing the risk of adaptor and/or card failure?

Personally I prefer a micro SD card so I can plug it directly into my tablet to copy photos. But then again my new camera is wireless, so maybe I should just be leaving it in the camera.

    Thanks TA.

Too bad it won't get the same amount of votes as a TA deal.

  • good price for local and new model.

has anyone tested the real write speed? 50mb/s is way too good to be true!

i was very unimpressed with my old version 32gb one, during large writes there would be constant dips in speed, had to get rid of it.

I have the 64GB version of this card and am getting approx 22-23MB/s write speed .

Yeah its BS. I have the 64GB 80MB/s version and the writes were well below 20MB/s.
The Samsung Evo outperforms it in writes, its just slower in the reading.

      • I have both the Samsung Evo and the new Sandisk Ultra 64gb for my a6000 and I can confirm the Evo is faster for writing. Noticeable difference when writing burst shots to the card.
