1680
FASTARSE

SanDisk has just released a new range of Ultra cards that are twice as fast as the previous Ultra models. With a rated maximum transfer speed of 80MB/s, these should handle a lot of demanding applications. This is the cheapest price anywhere by a fair margin.

Card comes complete with SD adapter. Limited to one per customer, and will be dispatched immediately from PC Byte's Sydney warehouse. Apply coupon FASTARSE at checkout & select free shipping. Have a great day :)

Many thanks to Thrift for running this test after he received the card. Awesome results!

Don't need the card but definitely a plus for pc byte. Had a warranty claim recently and the way they dealt with it was just outstanding. Thanks

i saw 2x and thought it was for 2… D:

  • +2

I assume this now makes the Ultras acceptable in GoPros? The Extremes have a 40-45MB/s write speed and have the tick from GoPro.

    • That's right :)

    • +4

      Hi cymon,

I would advise, for Go Pro - still go for the extreme model

      Cheers
      Francesca

  • Isn't new model different part # (SDSQUNC-064G-GN6MA)?

  • Got 1, thanks.

  • Thanks Op. Bought 1.

  • Oh Crap! Paid too quick without entering the code :(..

    Anything I can do now?

    Thanks heaps.

Just say Francesca please help :)

      • or…. Hi Francesca ….

    • I did the same and forgot, asked if they would help me out and they did. Very good result for me and a big THANK YOU from me for taking the time to do this.

  • Good deal. Thanks OP.

    • Whoa, tough crowd!

      I'll +1 to right this wrong ;)

      • +1

lol, thanks. Does anyone actually care about being Negged on OzB? People need to get out more. Please neg this.

        • +1

          Didn't work, you're in positive territory :D

But no, I don't lose sleep over a few negs. Find them funny usually.

  • +2

Is the write speed 50MB/s or 15MB/s?

The newest model on Amazon only has 15MB/s write, 80MB/s read.

    Link to Amazon

    • What he said,
Can we confirm what the write speed is?
If it's 15MB/s it's no good for high quality cameras.
Though, theoretically 15MB/s should be good enough for any camera.

      • +2

        Hi Phoebus,

We've tested the card and achieving write speed of 32 / 33 MB/s.
It is the Ultra, not the Ultra plus series.

Either one, this is a good value purchase =)

        Regards
        Francesca

  • +5

Great deal as usual, and definitely plus for PCByte and Francesca, one of the best company to deal with and superb delivery times.

I do however, need a deal on the 128GB ones :)

  • +2

Still waiting for a good deal on a UHS-3 64GB SDXC card. This card is still not UHS-3 speed rated unfortunately.

  • -2

    got 50

  • -3

Is this compatible with 4k video recording? (I assume no?)

  • -1

Are we getting a Micro SD card deal every week now?

  • I was waiting for this deal, thanks PC Byte and Francesca!

  • Hi All,

Are we certain this "ultra" card is 50mb/s write speed?

The picture on the PC Byte website looks like the old ultra, not the new "ultra plus" card.

    Can someone clarify please.

If indeed is the new ultra card with 50mb/s write speed, I will buy one being good value!

    Thank you.

    • Hi Lexus101,

We've tested the card and achieving write speed of 32 / 33 MB/s.
It is the Ultra, not the Ultra plus series.

Either one, this is a good value purchase =)

      Regards
      Francesca

  • Thanks Francesca!
Good of you to reply so quickly.

Thanks again and have a nice day :)

Hi all. Rest assured these are fast cards. Initial tests using a Lexar reader showed peak read of 75 and write 33. We then moved across to a SanDisk USB3 reader and got peaks of 84mbs read and 47mbs write. We tested 5 cards all with the same results. Thank you for your patience. Francesca

    • +1

This gives us the evidence and confident of the read/write speed. Thanks. Bought one.

    • Bought one here as well, thx :)

    • +2

Thanks bought one off of this statement. Hopefully the removal of 50mbs write on the title does not signify anything misleading.

    • Hi Rep, any deals on a good USB 3.0 SD card reader? Interested in the Kingston MobileLite G4

  • Any chance of a deal on SD Wifi cards?, I missed out on the recent deal for Toshiba, no stock in Vic.

  • +3

Why is 50MB/s write speeds removed now from Title, people would have already bought it. What is the advertised speed as per Sandisk ?

Francesca can you post an actual pic of the front and back of the packing please.

    • +2

Yes ^ this ^ Already bought it before specs were removed from post. Need one with fast write, not read.

      • +2
        • +2

Thx Francesca that's an awesome result, I have bought the card right after deal was posted anyway, as long it is 50 MB/s writes as per original deal post I will be mighty happy. If it's way below 40MB/s I will have to return it unfortunately as the main reason I bought it is for 50 MB/s writes.

        • @regenade: Please remember 50 is the theoretical maximum. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

        • well, that's hopeful. However same as below - I bought this specifically for the write speeds … if it comes in significantly under 50 when I test, I will have to return it. If you can't process such returns after opening and testing, please advise ASAP and cancel my order.

        • +1

@solar: Dear PC Byte, do yourself a favour and cancel solar's order. Then blacklist him/her/it from future orders.

        • @Gav: Dear Gav, piss off. Simple solution - don't misrepresent a product. I need a fast write card. If this isn't a fast write card when it has been advertised as one, it should be refunded. No dramas. You have a problem following logic?

        • +1

@solar: Please remember 50 is the theoritical maximum. 35-45 is the range that you should expect. We can process return for you, if the speed is not achieved after testing.

        • @francesca2148: thanks Francesca. 35-45 would record fine for me … The performance of the card in the amazon reviews showing 15 would make this useless for me though, hence my concern.

        • @solar: Tested the card and showing some very fast speeds. Comes formatted as exFat.

    • +1

If you're not recording 4k/1080p video using a SLR, camcorder or gopro, then this card is absolutely fine. This card would also be good for phones.

      • +1

Why would it not work in a GoPro?? I'm currently using a 64 GB TDK SD card from the recent AusPost deal. It has a much lower read/write speed and it works fine. I've been recording 1080p constantly and a bit of 4k. Although, I haven't looked at the footage yet.

        • It would work fine. The extreme and PRO versions of the Sandisk and Samsung cards are just far more reliable and you won't get any slow downs when streaming directly from the sd card.

    • +2

      argh this is worrying…

I just bought one and thinking the 47mbs write speed should be enough for my Sony 4k action camera…

Well i mean there shouldn't be such a large discrepancy compared to Francesca's test?

      • +3

This card is not compatible with the Sony 4K Action Camera that came up couple of weeks on the JB Instant Deal.
You need to get the SanDisk 64GB Extreme UHS-3 model. It was $50 on ebay from Sydneytech last week , but no one is doing that deal anymore here on OzBargain.

Everyone has been asking for an Extreme/Extreme Plus 64GB SDXC UHS-3 deal for past 4-6 weeks at around $50 or below but even the tightest of Tight Arses have failed unfortunately till date because of falling dollar. I am still patiently waiting for the D-day though as I am sure with faster versions of Micro SD cards coming to market, its inevitable that the extreme cards would soon be last gen and have to be cleared out.

        • +1

Thanks for the clarification regenade, that's the exact action camera that I got from the JB deal.

Oh well, another spare card in the drawer :(

        • @mg_k:

Seeing as you are getting the card anyway, test it out and report back.

      • I just received my card. Works great in the Sony X1000V for 50 and 60 Mbps XAVC S (4K and 1080p) recording. Since it is a U1 speed class card, it doesn't unlock the 100 Mbps modes, regardless of its actual write speeds.

The high read speeds makes transferring the footage a snap.

You need SDXC to unlock the XAVC S modes, and at least UHS-I U3 to unlock the 100 Mbit modes.

        • Did you pick it up, or have it delivered? If delivered, I'm impressed!

        • +1

@tightarse: The rapidity of delivery from PC Byte to Sydney metro is phenomenal. Serious promptitude :)

          Ordered 2:57 PM
          Dispatched 6:13 PM
          Arrived 9:43 AM

        • Yes for unlocking the 100 Mbps mode, still need the Sandisk Extreme UHS-3 64GB SDXC card. The Extreme (not Extreme Plus or Extreme Pro) is good enough as long it is the latest UHS-3 version with 60 MB/s reads and 40MB/s writes rated. This Ultra card is faster but unfortunately is not UHS-3 certified, meaning that the 100 Mbps XAVC recording will not be unlocked :(

Can you post some real-world speeds, also a Crystal Mark screenshot of the read/write speeds please :)

        • +5

@regenade: Just a tiny clarification, "UHS" denotes the bus interface, not the speed class.

There are two different UHS bus modes: UHS-I has interface speeds of 50MB/s and 104MB/s, UHS-II has interface speeds of 156MB/s and 312MB/s.

There are also two UHS speed classes: U1 indicates a minimum serial data writing speed of 10MB/s, U3's minimum is 30MB/s.

          A UHS-II card could have a U1 speed rating, likewise a UHS-I card could have a U3 speed rating.

I'll do a speed test and post the results.

        • @Thrift: Thx for the useful info. Yes I meant U3 rating UHS-I card is the min for the 4K XAVC S 100 Mbps unlock. Waiting for your results :)

        • @regenade: Looks like it's going to be a bit more of a wait - turns out I haven't brought my card reader with me, so I'm stuck with my slower internal reader till the weekend :(

        • +5

          Seq Q32T1 3.932 0.817

Real life performance in my SLR camera I'm getting approx ~22-23MB/s write speed (40 x 18.3MB = 732MB / 32sec until writing finished.)
Compared to SandDisk Extreme Pro microSDHC which gets ~73MB/s write speed (40 x 18.3MB = 732MB / 10sec until writing finished.)

Hi thelastnoob, please find our test result:

      http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/70031/33630/qua-64g_spe…

    • Is this faster than the old Samsung Pro MicroSD card? (20MB/s write speed), since somehow the write speed is claimed to only be 15MB/s in this deal's card.. it's a cause for concern :(
Using this in a DSLR, RAW + Jpg mode is 27MB per shot combined at least, makes reviewing pictures a bit of a pain (have to wait for buffer to write to card)

  • Let's see, I have like 6 cards from all these recent specials, nice deal but don't need it unfortunately :(

    • you could always sell or swap them =) I have some internal hard drives kicking around (figuratively of course)

  • +1

    That day will come.
    .
    .
    .
when you have to re-use an arse-pun.

  • Any chance of getting a larger 128gb ?

  • Thanks TA! Just bought one!

  • Sandisk say warranty is void if used in a dash-cam, otherwise I would have snapped it up straight away

    • Wow that's interesting. That's the reason I was going to buy… I don't mind the voided warranty but I now I wonder if there is any issues with using it in a dash-cam.

Hmmm might just take the risk, how many others here have bought (or buying) one for this purpose?

Would love to hear more on this but given the newness of the card I doubt any info is available yet.

      • +3

I would guess that having it in a dash-cam would put it through abnormally high amounts of read / write cycles since they loop over the first blocks of data after they reach the max capacity. This is a lot more than, say, if you just used it for camera photos or phone etc where it's not always being accessed.

    • +2

Not sure how they would enforce that or check it… I've had two cards fail and made a warranty claim from sandisk and because I make up some crap about sensitive content I get the ok to drill a hole through the middle before I send it for a warranty claim… replacement came through reasonably quickly direct from US…

Also made a claim with adata and they wanted me to send the card back to asia as I couldn't remember where I bought it from… told them to get stuffed and never bought adata since…. said the same when i was emailing support they said nothing they can do. spend $20 sending a $25 card back to us. !!

  • Hi francesca2148,
