Is it still safe to travel to Turkey now?

    • Yes. Stay away from the Western border if you are concerned.

      • +1

        Sorry Eastern not Western

        • Eastern and South Eastern

  • Booked SYD-FRA/MUC-SYD in January on Qatar for $1358.84 for a flight in March.
1-stop connections with fast 23 hours travel time both ways. No idea how they stack up regarding seats and service.

    • I just came back from Frankfurt on Qatar business. Let me say this… DOH-FRA on their A350.. Amazing journey.. Such a beautiful aircraft with superb comfort. Even economy seats seems quite ergonomic (I haven't traveled on it though but heard from cabin crew saying a lot of passengers have loved it)

    • 23 hours isn't fast.

  • I am looking to book some flights to Europe (from Adelaide) for July, but all the sales seem to be for flights later in the year… is it likely prices get better as we get closer to the middle of the year?

    • +2

Its summer in europe in July.
You're not going to find many sales.

These fares are out of peak therefore cheap.

      • Hmmm thanks. Is it worth waiting and hoping for a sale in the month or two before the dates or would I risk fares getting even more expensive?

        • I dunno about timings, but usually fares get more expensive the closer to the date.

I have used https://matrix.itasoftware.com/ to great effect the last few times I've booked overseas trips.
It's not a booking site- but it gives you the codes the travel agents use to book flights.

        • @damoo: interesting, what do you do with the codes? I found the best price so far for a trip from ADL to YYZ. Better than Google flights.

        • @Colombian:
Take the codes into any travel agent and they will book the flights for you without charging any extra.

I recommend using the 'nearby' feature for your destination so it includes lots of airports / countries.
It's useful if you aren't too fussy about where you arrive.
Eg: just somewhere in Europe for example, id set london, then include all airports within 1000 miles

    • Have you looked at Vietnam Airlines? Got a very good deal through a travel agent.

      • +1

and spend twice the travel time in transit through Vietnam.

On average you save around $200 - $300

but you spend an extra 10 hour or so

    • I'm in a similar situation. I'm banking of lots of flight deals appearing given the extraordinarily low oil price. Once their oil price hedges begin to rollover (probably already happening) they have significant profits at these fare levels so I expect fares to fall.

      • Interesting. Are you actually pretty confident of this? Or just wishful thinking. I'm in the same position. Need fares in July for weddings.

        • I'm confident (e.g. I paid $1100 last year MEL->LHR on Royal Brunei in July using this strategy) - but I'm also flexible on dates. If you're not flexible (i.e. wedding) then this is likely to be a riskier strategy.

    • I just booked europe with Etihad for $1399 out of ADelaide ADL-MEL-AUH-ATH then DUB-KUL-DPS and I all ready had a tiger flight booked for the dps to adelaide leg. I would have prob booked with Qatar if this sale was on. What im saying is book this.

      • If the dates worked for me I would be all over this sale :(

  • Saw this on banners, during the week. Assumed it was here already.

    Decent prices, routes, destinations.

  • Look at the special tax Vietnam airline charge charge. Amazing how they suck people in still.

  • I'm planning a trip mid December from Melbourne and come back end Jan 17. Flights are costing almost $2000.
Does anybody have a clue if sale fares come around for that time of the year considering its almost off peak season due to winters..

Also any feedback on China Southern in terms of safety and reliability..
