  • Damn that's tempting to put in the new ultrabook that work just gave me.

    • tempting indeed..hehe!

    • +1

Make sure it's compatible, a lot of ultrabooks have mSATA SSDs rather than the normal 2.5" SATA SSD. You'd want to be sure it is compatible first!

      • First thing I do when I get new stuff is to crack it open!

  • Seems the new norm for 480GB is <$200

    • Well … there is no norm, just constant price drops ;)

  • Hmm how do these compare to the Samsung 850 Evo?

  • Sorry to be a little lazy, but of top of someone's head, doss anyone know if I can buy this and fit into my 2012 iMac 27"? I haven't been in a market for hardware forever now, and I believe some HDD model can be incompatible to some?

    • its a tough question as not many people, i believe, even open iMacs.
as far as i know imacs have had problems with sandforce ssd controllers.
ive used a variety of ssds with imac but only up to 2011.

have used samsung evos and Kingston HyperX with no issues.

btw. if u can put a SSD and a normal HDD into your iMac you can create fusion drive with software already on your mac, just google creating a fusion drive.
ive got this currently with a HyperX and 1.5TB WD Green, so a 1.62TB fusion drive.

      • Sweet, thanks heaps for the info.

Another rather noob question if I may. Is iMac using eSATA 2 HDD or something like that? If not what "type" of HDD should I choose for it? Sorry….. I haven't been following all these since I was out of uni…..

        • Two options ,
          Thunderbolt and USB.

If you have a slim iMac you'd probably want a professional openng it up.
