Armor All Custom Shield White 396g Can $8 at Supercheap Auto (Moonah)

30

Was in-store today looking for something completely different and I spotted this on the shelf, the cans of white custom shield are only $8 while black and clear are $20. I took the can to the counter to confirm, and the lady said that they must be discontinuing the cans of white, hopefully this means that this deal is nationwide.

I grabbed a can and there is plenty of stock left at the Moonah store (TAS).

I haven't had a chance to use any yet, but I've heard it's very similar to Plasti dip, but harder to get off, and just not quite as good. However the can is larger, and at this price a LOT cheaper.

EDIT: I have now found out that this is exactly the same as Plasti Dip, but in a different can, Spectrum paint owns both companies.

Having used plastidip, dupli Dip and Armour All i can tell you that the products are almost identical to use and removal. Removal is only hard if you havent a) used a wax/grease cleaner first on the base b) sprayed too thin a coat because it doesn't peel as a whole sheet/layer.
This is cheap but i normally just get black for wheels. The clear coat/shine is almost useless, within a month the shine is dull again. Better off using tyre shine on the wheels.

    • Thanks for the info, good to hear a review from someone who seems to know what they are doing.
Also, having used it, do you think it would work to coat something and then paint black?

      • You could use this as a base coat as you would want to do about 4-5 coats on the wheels. The black is pretty good at covering up thick so that would be one way to do it cheaper (ozbargain!)

        • I actually was planning on doing my wheels white (but nice idea with the black, I didn't even think of that), but there are two chrome sections on my bumper which I would like the cover with black, so I thought that while white was so cheap, just painting over the white (with an enamel or something similar) would be cheaper, assuming that this won't ruin the coating/look awful.

EDIT: I just had a google, and it seems like you can paint plasti dip

That store is 200m from my house, thanks OP.

  • Do yourself a favour and look into a brand like Foliatec. Better quality.

At the end of the say they are all spray films so you cant expect paint like coverage/finish and durability. It is made to peel and scratch off so you can imagine what rocks and everyday wear and tear does overtime.
