"Exhibiting the Australian flag on Australia Day is, for most people, simply a way of expressing pride in our great nation. Wearing the flag now though is no longer the innocuous show of allegiance to Australia that it once was. To an anti-social minority, every display of the flag means a vote in support of violence-based nationalism.

We all know who this minority is. They can usually be seen on Australia Day with their shirt off, beer can in hand, often wearing the flag as a cape, and being generally loud. Wherever there is incivility on Australia Day, you won't have to look far to find cape-wearers."

    • +2

Why did you get begged? I don't get it.

      • +4

Because those that negged read the first sentence and made up their minds without reading the rest.
And they probably didnt understand some of the words, so maybe not understanding makes people angry ;).

      • +2

Yeah, the subtlety of the quote's second half seems to have been lost. Oh well ;)

      • Maybe because the violence of nationalism is not limited to a small minority. Ask members of First Nations about violence, or those in detention centres.

    • +12

where do you expect a 5 dollar flag to be made? if it was made in Australia it would be 50 dollars and no one would buy it

    • +4

stop embarrassing yourself on a public forum

    • +7

Ironically if it were $20 and australian made you would be complaining its too expensive and would buy made in china anyway.

  • -8

Good deal, pity about the racism

    • +10

this bargain is about a flag mate, there's no racism here.

ethnic minorities and idiot SJW would have you believe that being proud of this country and the flag is a bad thing.

          So you love……. Germany?

        • @King Tightarse: i worked for Metz & Blaupunkt for 7 years in VIC, had a GF from Germany for 9 years before I met my wife and specialised my engineering masters in german electronics so yep I do love germany!
But I refer to the flag of the aboriginal owners of this great land we all now…share?

        • @ozy: most people don't even know what it looks like

It's the flag of a proud people!

        • @ozy:

          Owners?

        • @UFO:
Owners, as in before we stole it and sold it to the now owners…
Tribes claimed areas and land was traded before settlement of whites.
The term owners refer to a possession.

          @StewBalls:
          100% correct.
It could have been the French, the Dutch, the Portuguese, the Chinese or even the Japanese but one thing is absolutely certain:
One of the competing naval empires was always going to take a sweet prize such as Australia.
Is was inevitable. The whole history of people and countries is one of constant invasion and defense. Every country on earth has experienced this. It's what humans do. Once the shipping technology was available, it was inevitable. Check any part of the history of Europe for more information.
No point sooking. It was always going to happen.

        • +1

Your comment 'unless its yellow black and red its nothing to be proud of'

The green, black, blue and white …is the flag of the Torres Strait Islander people, who have everything to be proud of, including the legacy of Eddie Mabo.

        • -3

@StewBalls: rape has been around since day one too, doesn't make it right.
Only thing I'm spouting is the racism is not needed in this deal.

        • -2

@gokhanh: I share it respectfully, there is nothing I can give back as this is my birthplace too.
To be proud of a flag is to proud of its origins, to which I am not, but I do accept it as it's my countries flag in addition to the flag of the aboriginal people.

      • +3

Am an ethnic minority and proud of Australia, its democratic institutions and value of a 'fair go'.

        • Well give the deal a plus! Its a good deal!
This site created by the one and only Scott Yang, this deal posted by Scotty and this offer made by Ruslan Kogan, Soviet Union born and grew up a minority in Elsternwick housing commission.

      • +5

Making false, negative accusations towards ethnic minorities seems like a pretty racist thing to do to me…

That's something you'd notice if you were born outside of Australia and emigrated in. Completely nice and normal people come out with racist phrases and sayings all the time. Because you're normally nice and don't mean any malice towards them you think it's fine, but it stands out a lot to foreigners and, in my opinion, is the main reason why Australia has a global reputation for being very racist.

You get the Cronulla thugs in every country, it's the attitude of normal people that really characterises a country.

        • +3

Just FYI, despite what the PC (profanity) community might try to have us believe, racism is not confined to bogans or any other cultural group…some of the most racist people I know are actually members of ethnic minorities. But that's ok apparently, if you're not white it's not racist in PC land…it's actually the bleeding heart PC wannabes like you pulling the race card every 5 minutes that destroys our reputation.

That's something you'd notice if you didn't have that chip on your shoulder.

        • +1

          @StewBalls:
Every human being can be prejudiced. However, the prejudice of minorities usually can only be enacted on you in a personal way. They lack the numbers and political /social control to make any societal changes.

However if you look at parliament, media bosses, and CEOs are in Australia, they are overwhelmingly white. So the same prejudices can enacted into law and discrimination can become organisational. That's why people become frustrated with "swjs" and "leftist lobby groups" not realising that's the only avenue minorities have in changing discrimination in the mainstream public.

Unless parliament suddenly becomes Aboriginal/Australian born Chinese/or Australian born Middle Eastern majority tomorrow, you won't ever have to worry about a white Australia policy being enacted, having people of your particular skin colour being prevented from immigrating to this country, or having your property being "returned to the natives". On the other hand, when one minority is on TV for bad behaviour, ALL similar minorities are worried what laws/ media bias will be enacted against the whole group. They don't have the numbers to prevent negative bias in most organisational structures. That's a worry many other Australians don't need to consider.

Prejudice is prejudice from any race; but the practical outcome is very different depending if you are a dominant majority, or not.

        • @StewBalls: I'm not sure going out of my way to emphasise that they are probably a nice person and mean no malice really backs up your ludicrous claim that I have a "chip on my shoulder"… Unless you're claiming a slur against ethnic minorities isn't racism?

And why do bleeding heart PC wannabes target Australia in particular then? I don't think it's really up for debate that the world views Australia as more racist than other countries. It's also not surprising you've grown up with that mentality given the infamous White Australia days (or perhaps a sensible immigration policy destroyed by bleeding heart liberal PC lunatics with chips on their shoulders?).

Some of the most racist people I know are ethnic minorities as well (do they not count as Australians? I don't recall ever specifying white people). I've never, ever, ever come across a person claiming that only white people are racist - I have however come across countless people who pretend those people exist. It seems like you're the one with a chip on their shoulder with your obviously fake claims!

      • I didn't see it for some reason but my degree is in Engineering in Manufacturing and Robotics.. Pretty shitty degree if you ask me

        • Oh. What did you do in those 5 years on Centrelink? What did you tell people you were doing?

        • -4

@GameChanger: same as he should tell you, none of your fn business

        • @Makoto: I didn't ask for your opinion. CL has been kind enough to provide answers.

Centerlink is busy helping people find jobs and loopholes to a good Thursday payday, wait in line ;)

First thing you learn when you handle a National Flag for official ceremonial use; never let the flag touch the ground.

    Then there is this…

.. it annoys me more than it probably should.

    • +3

Sadly, these things are worn by 20 somethings who think they're being extremely patriotic, while getting in the face of others with 'aussie aussie aussie, oi! oi! oi!' and chugging their 8th beer for the day.

      • +3

8 beers is not much - perhaps the right amount for school girls, but not 20 somethings as you say

      • -1

if you can only drink 8 beers in a day, you're piss weak.

and if you're offended by people celebrating being australian, then get the f out of the country.

saudi arabia is nice I hear.

        • +6

Seems to be some underlying tones of anti (white) aussie semtiment here - which is not what OP intended, im sure

Its a shame that the national flag is, to many citizens, a signifier of racism and bigotry

Your average anglo 'aussie' is one of the most polite, fair, selfless, friendly and helpful types youll come across.

And all theyll want in return is 8+ beers ;)

        • +3

Makoto, I'll take your comment as being firmly tongue in cheek, as it really doesn't make much sense otherwise.

I'm a proud Australian and enjoy seeing other people celebrate the good luck and fortune they have to live in one of the best countries on Earth. I'm also firmly against the harassment of anyone who doesn't look 'Aussie' enough for the caped crusaders I see at the cricket on Australia Day every year. It's embarrassing.

        • +1

          @Cluster:

Ordered two last time it was on sale, here's a photo of what it looks like with your arms through the holes to use it as a cape (http://tinypic.com/r/1571vk2/9). Be prepared to have sore arms / shoulders if you're wanting to show the flag for a long period of time.

    • +2

yeah too many racists in this country so the demand for the national flag is through the roof. Kogan must of made at least a billion dollars from this racism.

      /s

      • Does kogan sell other national flags, or minirity group flags?

Maybe he is the real racist
