Panasonic Lumix G7 Body Only $558 at Harvey Norman

90

A great price for a great camera. Cheapest it has been - previous low I am aware of was 20% off from Ted's eBay which was around $640. Next cheapest on Staticice at the moment is $649.

Very highly rated (see reviews here and here ), especially at this price point. Has some of the best Panasonic tech: DFD focusing, shoots 4k video at 30fps and has 4k photo mode (Shooting 8.9mp jpegs at 30 fps).

Can be combined with $25 sign up voucher for HN for a greater discount.

The bundle with kit lens is not on sale, so if you do not have a m43 lens to pop on this then the video pro offer for the 14-42mm mkII for $132 is still around. The 14-42 mkII is a highly rated lens for image quality.

  • wow, great price for a very capable mirrorless camera with 4K

  • Wow nice price. If I could afford this right now I would grab it, but I gotta save up for Galaxy S7 and Tabpro S hehehe

  • Would that lens cover most regular uses? ie. general person standing in front of a background, or just a person etc.

12-42mm is a kit lens that comes with all these m43 cameras. even my panasonic gf6k has it. It covers all the basics, but of course for Bokeh etc you need faster prime with wider apertures

It is a very good general lens. Its weakness is, as stated by codename47, low light (which is reasonable this price and to reduce the weight of the lens). It fulfils the 20/80 criteria for good value (gives you 80% of the image quality at 20% of the price) compared to the the higher priced zooms.

In well lit and outdoor situations, it is a great lens. If you search for online reviews it is usually very favourable.

      Here is a brief discussion on dpreview on G7 + the 14-42 mk 2 : http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3883227#forum-post-562…

      Here is a hands on review of G7 + 14-42 http://photobyrichard.com/reviewbyrichard/panasonic-lumix-g7…

      • Correct. Sent a friend of mine omd em10 and it came with 14-42mm ez lens. It's not bad at all.
There is one panasonic pro lens with f2.8, that is a good one I heard. But again you pay the premium

  • Meh bargain. It was this price plus two extra lenses last year.

Prove it or it didn't happen

  • Isn't there a G10 now?

    • The G10 you are thinking of is Canon, which is a fixed lens compact

The Lumix G7 is the latest model for Panasonic G series, and is a micro 4/3 camera with interchangeable lens.

man this is a bargain, 558 for respectable 4k Camera, not everyone wanted the 25mm f1.7 in previous Panasonic sale.

  • Great camera. Very happy with it. Great price. Mr. Billions endorsed product & deal.✌

  • Omg, how much cheaper can this camera get? They'll be giving them away with you cereal soon 😊

  • I will have to buy one of these. Told my mate who does video projects overseas and currently uses gh4 for videos. He said this will be more like a backup.

what do you guys think? Is that a good buy for someone who is into videos ?

    • It depends on your needs. For hobbyist and probably semi pro, it will work very well and is likely the best choice for a 4k video camera within the price range. It will also work for professional interviews, and probably short films and such. The G7 has external mic input and actually has a smaller crop than GH4 and GX8 for video, using more of the sensor. However this might be an issue if shooting with both GH4 and G7 cameras for the same event as the field of view of the two may differ slightly if shot from the same location.

The G7 falls behind the GH4 for serious video in a few ways: Firstly, it has less video specific features than the GH4 (e.g. no Cinema modes, no vlog-L) and secondly, the G7 does not support the DMW-YAGH. The G7 also does not have an external headphone support for you to check the audio.

      • oh wow thanks for that. I think the guy told me that he shoots in UHD and then he decodes it at 96fps at 1080p. He does a lot of Music videos and Ad films etc overseas. I bought him the Samyang Cine lens for MFT to use on his GH4. He just wanted a backup body. Not sure if he is going to shoot different angles on same shot.

but thanks for your explanation. It was indeed very helpful. I have the Nikon D610 and a M43 Panasonic GF6 although I don't use Panasonic at all that why not much into the mirrorless world.

        • No the 96 fps is that fastest you can shoot on the gh4, not available on the g7, and only available in 1080. The fastest you can shoot in 4k is 30fps. But the g7 has better low light than the GH4.

    • Totally go for it for that price.

  • I picked up one of these on Friday. Great upgrade from my Olympus E-PL5.
