  • Thanks TA - just a quick question for my fellow OZB users! I am looking to go to Turkey and have no clue if there are "specials" that are communicated through this website…have thought about posting one that was sub $1,500 but i dont know what "bargain" for this airfare is! (and if it's relevant to anyone here)

Peeps here are very helpful, and you should try asking in the forums: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/forum/38185

I second the forum idea. The forum community are much more forgiving than the deals section if the price doesn't turn out to be that great.

    • In your forum post, make it clear that you will submit a deal if the price turns out to be a bargain. Otherwise somebody else might read the forum, and post the deal themselves. No guarantee that won't happen anyway, but it's more likely you'll get the satisfaction of posting a deal.

Wow. Is this the cheapest flight to NY from Perth EVER? I mean it is really unbelievably cheap!

Perth to New York is 18,718 km

The average flight time from Perth to New York is 24h 35min

  • There have been some sub $1100 Qantas flights BNE-LAX lately.
I just booked one in August.

    • I want to go to LAX from Melbourne in September. Could you please tell me where you booked your tickets? Thanks.

      • Mine were Friday 13Th over Sat 20Th back.

Just pick similar dates to what you want on the Qantas site and click flexible with dates

    • Travel expo just past had return flights to LAX for sub $1100 exPerth.

  • Fantastic prices.

Anyone know of any good deals for flights to Rome late-Aug/early-Sep this year? Thanks.

    That is insane for Qantas!

What we need now is the cheap accomodation in NY……
    I've never found any

Perhaps look in Jersey City and Newark too? They're just across the river from New York. A lot of the people who work in NY live in those two cities, so I'm guessing that public transport must be pretty good and the accommodation prices will be lower.

Also, if you want to see the Statue of Liberty, it's actually a lot closer to New Jersey than to New York City. You can see it quite well from Liberty State Park in New Jersey, the closest distance is about 1.2km. Google street view shows it quite well:
      https://www.google.com/maps/place/Statue+of+Liberty+National…

Whereas from the nearest point of NY, say Battery Park, the statue is much farther away, about 5km, far enough away that you wouldn't notice it, if it wasn't pointed out to you. Pretty hard to see, difficult to photograph.

Alternatively, you could take the ferry and visit the island the statue is on, but for me, I'd rather see it quickly and move on to other sights.

    • yeah and stay in Brooklyn, I hired an AirBnB apartment for my friend & I in Bedford Stuyvesant for a reasonable price - don't book hotels they are mega expensive.

  • too bad the dollar is shit

    • It's actually normal. And only one piece of the puzzle.

Either way, the flights are a deal… You don't agree?

      • absolutely, it makes flights the cheapest part of the holiday. I'd est it'll cost me about 10k to go there for the month (usually cost me 6-7k)

I wonder with AA being in the game if these prices will be the new norm (and to entice travellers with a cheap fare)

        • (I was hinting about no +vote)

  • I think there must be some mis-calculation in the "pay by CC" prices?

    Hobart = 1348 - 1345 = $3 difference
    Adelaide = 1289 - 1265 = $24 difference, much higher CC fee for a lower payment.

  • LOL… Melb-NY is cheaper than Syd-NY, even though Melb flies to Syd first.

Crazy prices, though. I think I'm gonna pull the trigger.

Flights sometimes lie, though. Shows Syd to NY direct, 20h50m. Not possible. Way back shows correct.

Curious if stops can be broken-up. Ie, spend a week in LA. Dream come true!

It's always the case with Melbourne - the slightly longer difference seems not to matter on the base fare, and the lower airport tax makes it cheaper.

Hobart people sure get screwed - nearly $100 more than from Perth, despite being a one hour flight from Melbourne!

      • ? The Melbourne flight includes extra dep/arr/taxes, yet cheaper. It's the Syd-NY with Melb added.

    • I would think you could definitely get a free stopover on the west coast! I got that when I flew with United Airlines, so no doubt Qantas should be able to do that for you.

      • +1

I wouldn't count on that. United are still something of an old skool airline, so can be more generous in that regard. Qantas love to apply as many rules as they can imagine.

  • Aere these Qantas fares upgradeable with points?.

    • Yes…but…. you can only upgrade from discount economy to premium economy. Burning points to get a bit more legroom and some nicer food and service.
