Can anyone seriously tell me if these are any better than the totally fantastic ones I got from Aldi for $20?

    • +1

Branded one is definitely over priced. But they generally last longer if you follow the instruction.

      • The brand is only a name.
Having used both I can tell you there is no real difference in quality or taste of the food when done.

Le Creuset only lasts longer because the thing is bloody heavy, nobody can lift the thing onto the stove to use it.

Yeah I have the aldi one too. Fit and finish is better on the Le Creusets. If you look at the insides of the Aldi ones there are tiny pits in the internal ceramic coating through which you can see black (presumably the cast iron). The Le Creuset coating is impeccable. Ideally a good cast iron enamel pot should outlast you. You can find vintage LC pots from the 50s and 60s still in great condition. I'm not sure our Chinese-made Aldi ones will stand up to as much abuse.

      • Even a cheap cast iron pot will outlast you.
I have a camp oven that my old man got as a kid in scouts, he assure me it was the cheapest he could buy.
Raw metal finish, (No Enamel) and it gets no special treatment yet 60 years later its still going strong.
Excessive heat (crack) is about the only think that will kill cast iron.

        • Yeah I agree. with enamelled cookware the main difference is the thickness and quality of the enamel coating. On the aldi ones the coating isn't fantastic.. but its still fine for my purposes and I expect it to last a very long time.

The Aldi ones are just fine. Am eager for their next cast iron sale. Want a large oval dutch oven.

  • No bargains listed and the Store rep still hasn't told us what's the item that costs $221
