So if I go to a security company to upgrade our CCTV, its about $10k for 16 cameras and the DVR. Do you need a pro to do a setup for a business (mostly external cams)?

U could get 16 Hikvision cameras plus DVR for less than 3k from alixpress. Shouldn't be too difficult as a DIY job, otherwise looking at several k for installation.

      10k seems excessive.

guys sorry i dont have knowledge about this, what do you mean buy DVR are they just for good videos or long range as well, i am after 8 cameras or 10 cameras but need a clear picture of person otherwise no use of spending $

Im no expert, but basically a DVR acts like a hub in which all your security cameras are connected to. They can record footage directly on to hdd's and connect to your home network for viewing either on the computer, tv, ipad, phone etc, locally or remotely.

The higher the resolution obviously the better picture you will have of the person in view. However you also need to consider how far away the subject will be as this will determine what size lens you need to get.

You can get a 16x camera 3MP (50% higher resolution than HD) system from Swann Security for about $4K.
The DVR is made for Swann by Hikvision and has power over Ethernet, so you can plug the cameras straight into the DVR - you definitely don't need a techie to install. It's plug & play.
I know as I installed the 8 camera version myself at work a couple of months ago (never done before - it was easy) and the picture is VERY sharp. The motion activated/recognition feature is pretty good too.
The DVR is 2TB and I get about 9 days of continuous 24hour recording for all 8 cameras.
You will need to separately get a computer monitor

Depends on the type of camera provided.
You can have PoE cameras 3mpx as cheap as $150 or as expensive as $4000.

Check with your installer what type of camera provided. Insist on getting PoE cams as they can easily do full HD resolution nowadays. Dont settle for ones with coax cable as at most they do 700 tvlines and no 1080p.

On average a standard 16 cameras setup with 2TB NVR and POE switch normally cost 6-7k in a standard environment (warehouse, factories) with $300ish cams.

  • i am looking for security camera's but not sure about this cameras

Yes I would be interested in the camera resolution , no point if you can't make out a persons face when something happens , a blur isn't going to help anyone

The add doesn't mention anything about resolution ill try to contact aldi team n ask

      • please do :)

Dvr is not digitial , all the camera needed to connect with 2 cable to the DVr unit.

Onbthe other hand you should look for ip camera qhich they use your network/wifi and individual camera will be accesable on it own and they can operate without using NVR/DVR, alao you need not to connect the camera to the NVR if wifi ia supported.

Buying this may be cheap but the aet up cost may be high.

DVR stands for digital video recorder the D refers to the HDD over the old video, IP, DVI and analogue cameras can be connected to most NVR or DVR these days.

NVR differences over DVR is mainly that the cameras do the encoding not the head unit, NVR are also capable of recording off site or multiple NVRs on the same network

  • this will give you a general idea of what is happening but it wont give clear picture or peoples face or number plates. very good value for what it is and if you are handy will be able to fit yourself, very easy the old cameras.

For that you will need to spend about 30 times more and that is cheap. IP cameras and NVR. HK cameras are a ok mid level camera would not recommend buying from china directly as they do stuff up so a warranty is handy.

Cheaper alternatives to a professional system is a ip camera and server but the wi fi cameras are not professional grade and the ones i have seen are not rated for outside or see well at night.

  • I don't suggest buying from overseas such as Aliexpress. Purchased hikvision cameras from there along with the NVR, problems first started with the cameras and followed by the NVR. No recourse whatsoever. Seller simply refused to reply to email, aliexpress can't do jack shit, can't get credit card to reverse charge as it over 9 months.

Pay for local goods and install, given the crap exchange rates nowadays, u only topup at most a couple of hundreds.

  • I find these ppl pretty good and helpful. Purchased a few FPV camera from them .

  • I got cocoon 4 Camera DVR for $199 last year and I can vouch that they are much better than my parent's Swann 4 Camera system. Not sure if this is same brand or not.

Night vision is so so. but day vision is clear enough to catch faces.
