  • Price gone down to $15 now…

    OUR PRICE $15.00 + GST
    Usual Price: $30.00
    You save: $15.00 (50%)

    • $30 - 50% does not equal $15 + 10%

      $30 - 50% = $15 , not $15 + get

What you mean it's they were $30 now they cost $16.50?

  • Any one have any experience with these?

Looking to deck out entire house but not sure on replacements and the quality of the light

      but not sure on replacements

Huh? There is nothing to indicate that the LED chips are replaceable.

and the quality of the light

As a "name brand" they should be reasonable, and at least they will be electrically compliant.

Ugly looking things, and the lens probably has that frosted pattern to make them more decorative.

Note that the frosted sections of lens will make them very glare-producing, so don't use in areas where you are sitting for long periods looking where they will be in your line of sight (eg: don't use in lounge room between yourself and the TV)

I'd say that they are poor selling old stock, and Thorn needs to clear them. You can tell from the size of heatsink (especially the adjustable ones) that they aren't the usual "chinese domestic grade" rubbish that's common on eBay etc.

Note that the lens appears similar but the adjustable is 70mm cutout, whilst the fixed one is 90mm cutout and much flatter. There is a difference in performance as well.

I know this doesn't answer your question directly…
I recently bought cromptons xl-led down lights with transformer, 5 year warranty and they are insulation safe (ie. Won't overheat in insulation). They are one of the few down LEDs with a whopping external heat sink (gets rid of heat), let alone any heat sink at all.
Suggested to me by two sparkies. For about $20 ea, I got everything except the tool to cut the hole. The pierlites also have a decent heat sink, but I couldn't get them at the same price, despite all of the LEDs being made in China. Also, crompton and pierlite are both Gerard industries brands.

I've had 2 sparkies (that I trust) recommend them. One other (reputable) sparky suggested an SLA (Sunny Wave I think), but a friend had 2 of 6 fail in 6 months. This sparky swore black and blue that the SLAs almost never fail. The SLAs have no visible heat sink and are not labelled as insulation safe. They were also about $20.

I showed some pierlite, SLA and Cromptons to my wife. She preferred the thin edge on the pierlite and SLA lights to the crompton's 2mm edge. Thankfully, my main sparky pointed out the heat sink and my wife agreed "safety and reliability first". The cost difference between crompton and pierlite excluded the pierlites.

I'd definitely recommend the cromptons, but it is early days.

      • Thanks for the info guys, I will have a think.

Did see the other downlights on their website.

(25% OFF) OSRAM LED 240V 5.5W CHROME GIMBLE 3000K WARM WHITE for $23, seem like a more reputable brand.

I will look into the cromptons.

        Thanks @llama & @DeWalt
