Great price for Zelda. What does the amiibo give you?

    • +7

"scanning Wolf Link into Twilight Princess lets players enter an exclusive area. If Link defeats this dungeon's boss while equipped with the giant wallet item, he'll receive the upgraded bottomless wallet, which boasts a rupee capacity almost 10 times greater than the former item."

      • +6

It will also have compatibility with the new Zelda game later this year.

        • This definitely interests me

        • Fingers crossed

        • @Dany34: Fingers crossed that the amiibo will be compatible or that the new game will be released this year?

        • +1

          Yes.

        • @durd0008: lol game is released this year. Sure it will

      • +4

So.. not actually bottomless lol 😂

  • +2

I want the amiibo, but would prefer a digital copy of the game. Shame this is the only way to get it.

    • -3

you will prob be able to buy the digital version on eshop

      • +5

        Reread the comment.

      • Yes you can buy the digital version of the game but the amiibo is a physical item and isn't sold separately from the game itself.

        • Ahh ok I thought you could get the Amiibo separately :)

    • +2

Well it will be more expensive digital as well. Even if it was available on its own you would be playing closer to $100 I imagine.

I personally prefer physical. It most likely will be backwards compatible with the NX and it does not use up hard drive space.

The only benefit I see with digital is having to get up to change games but I guess I can manage that lol

      • +1

I bought some discounted Nintendo credit from JB (some with coke rewards gift vouchers) to negate the expected cost difference.

Also the photo in the catalogue also looks like the one that comes with a soundtrack CD looking at the side of the box - which is a limited edition.

    • You can purchase the Amiibo from Amazon Japan along with some other stores.
Though at $68 at BigW I'd forget about the digital route and just get the bundle.

Edit - scratch Amazon UK, Amazon Germany has it.

    • You might not be too bad off if you sell the game, particularity if you don't use it. I cant recall if previous bundles came with the game shrink wrapped or not but that could help the listing on eBay/Gumtree or whatever.

There's people out there that want a physical game and not the Amiibo (see the Twilight Princess Whirlpool thread), so I'm sure you'll do pretty well given there's a good chance the Amiibo itself would have been anywhere from $15 to $25 if sold on its own. I assume it'll be more to import from overseas if you do try and get it without the game.

    • You could probably buy the bundle and sell the physical copy to cover costs and a good chunk of the digital copy if you buy it on sale at a later date.

  • Fantastic price. Cheers OP - will be price matching my preorder at EB!

  • +1

Lol @ mario kart being $68 still

    C'mon!!

    • +3

Mario Kart retains value incredibly well, moreso even then other 1st party games - The Wii version pretty much stayed at RRP until it stopped getting re-stocked.
Same sort of situation with SSB.

      • +1

Actually, Mario Kart Wii was released as a Nintendo Selects item in 2013. Most Selects were going for $30-$35 dollars IIRC. I got a bunch of Selects from ozgames.com when I got a 2nd hand Wii in 2014.

    • Pretty much all first party nintendo games retain value for the entire life of the console, then if backwards compatible, might actually keep it then for a while also :P

  • A nice retail price, i suspect some might drop it slightly more.

  • +1

Christ on a f****n bike!!! Was hoping something like this offer would be smitten soon!!!

    Thank you OP!!!

  • Wow, a lot better than EB price. Hopefully they price match without any problems.

    • +5

EB Price for 99% of stuff is way over priced. I can't believe how families go there and pay full price for anything while JB Hifi, Target and Big W constantly sell for 30% less than the EB full price.

      • -6

Because EB has the better stock system, other stores have great prices, but little to no stock

        • +6

EB has a better stock system because other stores are stealing their customers.

        • +3

Well, yeah, that's what happens when you're overpriced, people buy elsewhere and so you usually have more stock left over.

        • @bargin193232222: I think Tal_Shiar has a point. Pretty sure BigW had a very low stock of Pokemon 2DS Yellow, Red and Blue (I think 2 of each color on launch at my local store).

        • -1

Negging me won't make stock appear on their shelves, EB haters yawn The last time I bought a game at Big W it was the first time in 5 recent trips I left with a game, 2 times they couldn't find the game, 2 times they didn't have a game I wanted or on my preferred platform. EB have their flaws but they're not half as bad as some people make out, I'd rather get my game on then convince myself I got a good price first and foremost ..if you aren't near a store that price matches for you, sucks to be you :)

        • +1

          @Tal_Shiar:

Have you heard of a telephone?

  • +3

very nice, if it's anything like the mario maker bundle though there will be plenty of stock to go around.

edit: hopefully target will match them, then i can get free shipping :)

    • +5

Yep, go back to your WoW subscription buddy.

  • +1

Had this pre-ordered since it was announced. Was hoping a cheaper price would pop up so i could price match when i picked it up. Thanks OP!

  • If the game is not being released as a standalone, does that mean a physical copy will be a limited release?

    • I doubt it…I imagine down the line they'll start selling it without the Amiibo. In some regions it is shipping without the Amiibo.

      • Thanks. I really don't want to be left with ebay as the only place to get a physical copy and then having to pay through the teeth for it if I decide to hold off getting it this weekend.

        • If you have the money you could buy the bundle and sell the Amiibo, I'd imagine there's a good chance you'll get $25+ for it since it can't be purchased stand alone and I assume there's people wanting the Amiibo without the game. Previous bundles had the Amiibo individually packaged in retail packaging, so assuming this is the same you could sell it as new and un-opened which will be good for the resale value.

Alternatively find someone who wants the Amiibo and make some sort or arrangement with them to split the contents. Elijah above is one example where someone wants the Amiibo and not the physical disc.

I'm only guessing that they'll release the game standalone in time, but you can still purchase Windwaker HD so I doubt they'll remove the option to buy Twilight Princess any time soon. I can however see them cutting back distribution costs by having a disc only release.

        • +1

Ozgameshop is selling the game stand alone for $58
          http://www.ozgameshop.com/wii-u-games/the-legend-of-zelda-tw…

Also nintendo has announced that the amiibo will be sold separately at some stage just release date hasn't been annouced

        • @Smigit:

It's a great suggestion but and also have no doubt there will be people just wanting to collect the Amiibo. I was just trying to limit my spending on games for a few weeks but I'll see on Saturday if I can secure a copy first and then decide what to do with it.

Have been disappointed too many times in the last few years with Nintendo releasing products and then for my local Big W/Target store to allocate two copies because of limited quantities (eg. The Super Smash Bros Gamecube adapter bundle).

  • Would the Wolf Link amiibo still read as regular Link in other games? (such as Super Smash)

    • +1

Super Smash Bros isn't listed on the list of compatible games for the Wolf Link Amiibo, so would assume not.

  • Thanks for this. I preodered from EB already but will bring this up when I pick it up next saturday. Hopefully they'll price match. Might even buy 2 at that price!

  • Do Big W do pre-orders or do you just rock up on the day?

  • Hi guys,

I am wanting to update my current Wii to a Wii U soon. Waiting on the announcement of the NX before I make my decision. I don't use the Wii alot. Just much around on Wii Fit and Wii Sports etc.

Just a quick questions re: figurines. What do you do with them? Where do you store them?

    • They are Nintendo's version of Skylanders or the Disney Infinity figurines if you are familiar with them. Brief overview here: http://www.nintendo.com/amiibo/what-is-amiibo

Some people have them proudly on display in intricate cabinets and stands or could simply store them away I guess. Comes down to personal choice really.

    • Just a quick questions re: figurines. What do you do with them? Where do you store them?

Ever heard of Skylanders? Well, amiibo figures are Nintendo's take on the toys-to-life genre. Except, these figures are NOT necessary for gameplay.

Their use varies game by game. In this game, it will unlock in-game content and in others, it will allow you play as that character or unlock extra costumes.

As for storing them, you don't. You display them when not in use. Decorate your bookshelf or surround your tv with them. They look cool, okay?

      • I agree with that last bit 100%. That said, if they must be stored you can buy bags at places like EB, otherwise throw them in a drawer.

    • Who knows when the NX will be officially announced though

    • Amiibos are collectible figures with a memory card inside, like an add on device like the balance board, zapper, a peripheral. Thing is, with a few games its needed like with Mario Party 10, Amiibo Festival and Mario Tennis its used to access core modes, while with other games its extra bonuses or dlc (with Splatoon). You can use them across many games, while some specific games require you to save progress to 1 only at a time. There is an amiibo game on the Eshop which lets you play classic scenes from classic games. The figures will also be getting an Amiibo game later this year, based on Mario vs Donkey Kong Tipping Stars.

If you get a Wii U, you might want to get 2-3 figures, depending, they're fairly cheap.

There are special devices which can back up your save data known as Power-saves. They are made by an American company i believe, unofficial, not-licensed.

  • +1

Very excited day 1 purchase for me

These will sell out in the box bundle variety make sure to grab yours while you can

  • That's the good thing about EB, it's easy to pre-order online with them and then when you go pick-up they accept price matches without argument.

    • No idea why you got negged. Comment is valid.

  • +1

Need a maths whiz gamer to do a cost split:

Link Wolf Amiibo - $15 (maybe worth more as you currently can't buy it separately)
    Soundtrack - $10?

So the HD Remake game cost $43? Worth spending $43 on a game that has nicer textures and an extra dungeon level? I can probably get the Wii version cheap on ebay.
I just need to convince the CFO at home that it's worth spending this money on (another) new game!

    • +1

This version will go up in value!! Tell CFO to look at prices of boxed super Mario maker online starting over $100 plus as cheap as $60's similar to this when released last september.. It's Zelda safe investment.. Not sure if they game inside will be shrink wrapped but they are often not. U could easily play the game keep everything mint and resell it in a year or longer for a profit …

Of course planning to keep mine but I treat my whole collection by and large same way

Of course I'm.not advocating selling something used as new but if there is basically no difference a buyer won't care that u have played the game If they are trying to find a sold out item that is complete and in good condition just describe that it's like new as u have taken game out and played it. Should still end up with more than u paid plus u got to play the whole game for free

      • +1

Problem is, I don't sell my games and like you, like to keep it in my collection.
I've already got Mario Maker, Yoshi Wooly World and even the Mega Yoshi. These boxes take up so much space!!

    • Wii version will still set you back $20-30. An extra $10 is worth it for proper controls, full HD, unmirrored, redone textures and an extra dungeon. It's the definitive version, the previous definitive version being the Gamecube edition which costs well over $120.

      • The wii remote and nunchuck were the proper controls though. lol. The Wii version will always be the definitive one, it ushered in true innovation and a new fun way to play. Motion controls for life son!

        • +2

It was ported to the Wii, the original controls were the Gamecube version. I personally hated the Wii controls and much prefer using a controller. The Wii version also looks slightly worse and has a mirrored world. There's nothing about the Wii version apart from being widescreen that makes it definitive unless you like waggle controls which many don't.

        • @Yuri Lowell:

Ported but came out first. Meant it was the original though, and what made the game great, but to each his own.

        • @BNGames: That's wrong though. The Wii version is the port and the GC version is the original. The Wii controls were not designed for the game and the mirrored world on Wii is also not what was intended in its original form. Google the game and you'll see. It was developed for the Gamecube and ported to the Wii.

        • @Yuri Lowell:

I know what you mean, I just meant the game's original debut Wii release, they did a switcheroo towards later development and made the Wii one the debut, wasn't originally intended but became it later in development. In the process, they tailored the game around the new controller.

I see what your saying, thanks for the info. Im just being a purist in terms of playing the original launch game, i never got to play it as an early Xbox / 360 gamer. I got the Wii later.

        • +1

@BNGames: just because it was launched 'first' doesn't mean its the original.
As I've stated and linked to info from nintendo, its a GC original that was ported and adapted to the wii, the release for GC was deliberately delayed for a few weeks to make people buy the newly launched wii. It was a purely commercial reason not because its a wii original.
If you're a 'purist' as you claim you would actually understand that instead of claiming its a wii original as even nintendo doesn't say that.

  • +2

The only way to play Zelda Twilight withoug waggle was the Gamecuebe version!

Now we can play it with a traditional controller and in HD!

    • And unmirrored image.

    • I want the waggle controller though. Lol. Apparently this doesn't support Wii remote and nunchuck?

Motion controls were awesome, this game will require waggling the gamepad though, through aiming.

  • Anyone confirm whether this has wii remote and nunchuck support? If not i might just get the Wii version… Been waiting to decide.

    • no wii remote and nunchuk. It does have a hero mode though which mirrors it like the wii version was.
Although it's a shame it doesn't have wii remote support, the game was originally not designed from the ground up for it, so it's not that silly to see it's departure.
The wii version looks quite blurry as they had to fit it all onto a 1.2GB media, and it takes up the full 1.2GB, which means they applied texture compression with the settings of "just make it fit damnit!".
Get the HD version :P .

      • -1

Wii was the first version to hit the market, will always be the original way to play. I get that it went to GC and was developed in conjunction, but im more into the original Wii style design (controls). I don't care that much about visuals. Im not too fussed.

Though the Gamepad motion controls, added challenge temple, stamps and amiibo power ups do look interesting. They'll probably include cross support with other figures or something.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. Will need to decide. Leaning towards original maybe, not sure.

        • +3

It was originally designed for GC for 2005 release. Its release was delayed to polish the game then again to port it to the wii as well as a launch title at the same time late 2006

        • +1

          Why not both??? xD

        • @sigh: Yeah but it came out first on Wii. They switched development true. Made it for the Wii remote and nunchucks, they worked on it to make it work specially as a new experience, i get what your saying though. Too each his own.

        • +1

          @piggiepanda:
          Lol, maybe some day.

        • +1

@BNGames: it was only launched 'first' on wii by a few weeks to coincide with the launch of the wii to entice people to buy the new console, not because it was developed for the wii it was adapted late in development to be playable on the 'new' console.

        • +1

          @sigh:

Released a month early, was the original version on the market, with wii remote + nunchuck, game was tailored for it to be played with the new controllers. Its the original released version, semantics though. I was hoping the hd release would keep the original versions controller usage.

        • @BNGames:
Twighlight princess was deliberately delayed further for release for the GC so it could be released as a premiere launch title for the wii, adapted from its original intentions of a GC controller based title, the original intentions were for controller useablitity not wiimote. launching the wii version a few weeks early is hardly representative of the games original platform as its orginal release was supposed to be in december 2005, nearly a full year before the wii came out.
How can it be a wii 'original' when it was never slated for a wii release until it saw multiple delays?
But semantics, Fire Fox Zero will be a NX ' original' desite being in development for the wii u for ages!

        • @sigh:

I see what your saying, to each his own!

If you like the Gamecube version and feel its your original version, cool. No probs.

They changed it during development/production, I just want the controller support of the games's intended launch on Wii. They switched development to make that the original version, focusing on making the game work as a primary Wii system experience, i get you though.

Maybe i'll get the re-release, not sure.

I don't know what the NX is, its just rumors at this point. Could be a new 3ds crossover device. Thank you for the information, I will have to decide, at least the Wii U one has motion controls in the gamepad.

        • +1

@BNGames: iwata and Nintendo said it was solely developed for GC, but making twighlight princess then starting a whole new zelda game for the new wii straight away wasn't going to work so twighlight princess was adapted and developed further to the wii, both versions benefitted ultimately from being released on both platforms.
          http://iwataasks.nintendo.com/interviews/#/wii/twilight_prin…
I liked both versions, so not fussed either way, but its a misconception that it was made for the wii when it was adapted, even nintendo says that, it became a whole game in itself to utilise the motion controls that weren't intended but came out pretty great in the end.

        • @BNGames:
I see what you're saying. You prefer motion controls and want to validate your opinion, so get the Wii version.
Don't complain when facts don't match your viewpoint.
          To each his own.

        • -1

          @Max Power:

Lol, Woah @Max, Im just talking about the original Wii game, which was the first out and was different to the later release. No need to be mad or angry if you prefer the GC version which didn't have the original releases wii motion stuff. If you feel the GC is the Director's Cut, cool. Im just discussing it within a certain context of what that original release brought.

Its just video games, don't worry about it dude! This is a consumer website, was just pointing out differences in debut, as were others. S'all good man.

        • @sigh:

Thats cool, no probs! Sorry to hear that dude passed away.

        • @BNGames: you keep calling the wii version the 'original' release though thats what i and several others are trying to correct. GC is the original release, as stated by nintendo.
The wii version is an adapted version, as nintendo themselves say it is. I don't understand how you keep calling it a 'wii original' when even nintendo don't say that! It was ported and adapted to the wii not made for it, so it can't be a wii 'original'.
Yes, its different to the original GC version because it was adapted for the wii controls, like majoras mask was adapted to the 3ds. It may have been sold to market first but purely for commercial reasons not because its the 'original' version.

        • @sigh: : )

        • +1

          @sigh:
He's either trolling or wants to remain ignorant. There's no point in us repeating ourselves.

  • So good I pre-ordered two @EB. They said they would price match.

  • So apart from the obvious graphical changes, is there anything else new in the game?

And for those that have played Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword (both of which I haven't played), what would you recommend?

Are the stories linked in that I need to play twilight first before skyward?

    PLEASE NO SPOILERS!

    • -4

skyward is lame because you have to play it with the stupid wii controller. no way around it. Twilight is good but not ocarina or wind waker kind of good.

    • +1

      They are not linked

Skyward Sword is setup as the origin story of the universe

  • +2

Target might be reconsidering their price, in their catalogue it's listed at $84 but on Facebook they've said that they don't have a final price just yet.
Hopefully they bring it down to $68.

    • I hope so usually more stock at target

    • +1

Still showing $84 in the online catalogue. Not sure if it will be cheaper in store.

      • Scanned at $84, they price matched BigW

  • Oooh, so getting this for my collection. :D

  • My local only stocked 5 copies haha wow

  • +1

Looks like Southland Westfield Vic has 2 left. Get on it!
