  • Great price for the kit, but there are rumours that in the next Xbox update you can use any mass storage device (any USB device) for game storage. Whether or not that will include copying games to the HDD is yet to be seen.

For $50 it might just be easier to get this.

    • I think MS said the max size of USB storage that would be supported was 8gb x 2, so 32gb in total. It would be great if it supports larger sizes and installing games to them!

16Gb x2.. but you got half the maths right.. :-)

  • Good price for the kit but not sure about it.
Your still paying $80 up front and then waiting 2-3 months for your $30 cashback.
You will need a Data Migration kit that costs close to $30 from M$ anyway.
So your initial outlay looks more like $110.
Much different to the $50 bargain.

  • Good Deal
Also comes with 3 months LIVE GOLD: Worth $30 by itself
So 60GB HDD for $20 (after $30 Cashback & Selling 3 Months LIVE Gold)

  • Jeez these 360 hard drives are expensive.

There are guides around to use any ol' hard drive (up to 250GB), but you've gotta hack it up yourself - http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EEZZkAAAVVpHxXqpYb.p…

A 250GB 360 hard drive is in the works and will be released at some point this year as well (for who knows what price).

  • just rang kmart campbelltownn, nsw.. $99 for the xbox live kit

    • Hmmm.. I guess it may be local only…

Got mine from Richmond Victoria… last two…

  • nice deal.. hopefully you can put the HDD on layby

  • well if you guys are willing to gamble an overseas purchase from HK:
    http://www.dragonext.com/featured/new-250gb-hard-disk-drive-…

250Gb drive for Xbox 360 for USD$65.29 delivered.

    migration tool is only USd$6.32

    • The migration tool is just the cable. Not very useful unless you already have the software disc.

You can try and migrate via a PC, but that's always a hassle and fraught with danger.

  • jashjash: I'm willing to bet that those are grey market ones.

100% guaranteed given that MS haven't released a 250G model. If you were willing to risk it I suppose you could use a memory card for you game saves and use the HDD for disc copy caching, music, videos and DLC.

Worst case scenario is that you'd have to redownload & reupload everything, it it failed.

      • Here is link for 250GB HDD released by MS: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360harddrive250GB/

      • The 250gb model can be found bundled with special edition elite consoles worldwide, and can be purchased seperately from japan, so they do exist (although the drive here in question is clearly a non ms flashed drive)

    • yeah, i guess they probably are grey market. but that's a lot closer to the price that people are willing to pay!

microsoft squeeze the nuts off people with what they charge for accessories :-/

but there are risks associated with these HK stuff, which is why I said it's a gamble.

You pay less, but it may be enough for you. e.g. you might play heaps of RPG's and never go online, and you don't have xbox live.

  • thanks kelvin i just picked one up from broadway in sydney for $80. Theres 2 left if anyone else is interested.

It's a little risky using non-MS hard-drive units I believe. There were reports that in the last ban wave heaps of people got banned for using a non official memory unit.

they disabled the use of datel memory card because ppl were using them to mod gamer scores. Theirs nothing wrong with "grey area" HDD or even diy HDDs. MS knows lots of people buy these HDDs off places like ebay not knowing their unofficial. Banning all unofficial HDDs would be a bad move on MS behalf, that's why they will never do it.

  • dont need a migration kit. just a spare xbox arcade 1st gen memory card. switch files onto that then insert new card and load up

just wondering if you could use a usb stick to transfer game saves to a new hd rather then buying a xbox transfer kit?
    Thanks

  • Well I have rung around 12 Kmart stores in the Sydney west and city (with the exception of two who say they don't have any in stock). They have been telling me they don't sell the Xbox 360 60gb live kits. If anybody see them in one of the stores can they let me know because it is annoying the hell out of me how the stores don't even bother to check to see if they have any in stock. thanks.

  • bought the last one in chatswood chase kmart
