    • USA, NZ and Japan mainly atm. Where are you looking for?

  • I'm going for 19 days (including the day i arrive - 16th march, and depart - 3 april). It seems that these plans don't suit me correct? As you can only get 14 days or 31 days? which is pretty pricey?

It seems the b mobile others suggested above also only does 14 days travel?

The only one that does an 'affordable' 31 day plan (to cover my 19 day) listed above is the yokososim posted by a poster above? Has anyone used this and have any feedback?

Otherwise can anyone else recommend a MVNO or provider to go that will meet my 19 days need, with good reception all around Japan (going tokyo, hakuba in the central alps, takayama, kanazawa, kyoto, osaka - so abit around the place)? Something 20 day would be perfect, otherwise it looks like I'm stuck with a 30 day sim. I depart 16th march so need a sim before then, be good to get one delivered before then to be 'safe', although it seems you can get them delivered to Haneda airport post office right? Although I'm not sure how you go about organising this?

    • B-mobile sim can be recharged for another 14 days at the end of each 14 day period. And can be done up to 10 days after a 14 day period ends. Very simple on the bmobile site. You will be able to get 28 days coverage for about $54. Around $22 better off than the 30 day deal here/

      • true - but the yokoso sim is $41.50 aud for 30 days for 4gb? doesn't have unlimited data but assuming this will be enough for my needs during the 19 days as I normally get through 5gb on a normal day (and probably will get wifi here and there)? Is there any reason to go with the b-mobile as any reseller MVNO like b-mobile and yokoso sim use the same docomo network, and therefore there shouldn't be any differnece in coverage or quality right?

so bmobile you just logon to the website to credit card renew another 14 days?

        • Yeh depending on your needs you might not need more than 4gb. So that may work out better for you. No difference in coverage. Yep you just credit card recharge on the b mobile site.

        • @dwhes:

thanks! Yeah some feedback was bmobile was very slow with their unlimited data, but it confused me as if they all use docomo's network then it shouldn't matter which reseller you buy from - b mobile, yokoso sim, so-net etc? they should all have the same coverage, speed and the like, just their customer service and 'inclusions/allowances' may vary for whatever price you pay?

worse come worse if i don't get a sim in time if you walk into any yodobashi or bic cameras in shinjuku i should be fine picking up a 'tourist' sim? alternatively heard haneda has a sim vending machine - but not sure what brands are offered?

  • If I activate at 12:01am on a Monday, will it work until 11:59 on Sunday (7 day pass)?

  • +1

Thanks OP - ordered a 14 day one for upcoming trip in 3 weeks time.

Nothing worse than wasting time on a sim that doesnt work/causes difficulties in a foreign country. Hoping this is a very simple process upon landing in Tokyo to enable.

  • If you go to Japan regularly might be a good idea to sign up to Rakuten mobile prepaid. About $10/month for data.

  • FYI - Country Arrival Date = Sim Activation Date. I was planning to activate sim a few days after arrival as I have complimentary pocket wifi first few days. Just sent them an email, hopefully they'll be able to change the activation date.

    • Nevermind.. just saw this on their website: Your Docomo data SIM will activate automatically as soon as you insert your SIM into your handset and picks up NTT Docomo’s cellular signal.

  • its better to wait until you get TO japan and buy a sim from the vending machines in the airport or go to Yobadashi camera / Yamada and buy one cheap there

    • Do you know what providers are available from the Haneda airport vending machines? Any way to check before arriving whilst i still have a computer/internet to do research?

      • -1

        sure,

you open up your web browser and type in HANEDA SIM CARD VENDING MACHINE

if that's too much effort as part of your 'research' then god help you
