  • ~$2700 for the 75" model @ Bing Lee

  • +1

Best price it's ever been. Nice one

  • Great price. My local store just called, being delivered tomorrow. Woo hoo!

I also picked up a Sony HTCT770 2.1ch Sound Bar for ~$250 delivered from the Sony Store. I got the last one, sorry.

  • The code appears to work now however the landing page + T&C conditions are not active. Use at your own risk.

  • Have been reading about this model on Whirlpool & AVS Forum, common problems are bad colour uniformity & corners of the panel are darker than the rest of the screen because of the back light. Turned me off buying one.

What do you suggest instead? All tvs have compromises. I think this is good bang for buck. I'm upgrading from a 5 year old 46" Bravia anyway.

    • +2

Yes, while you can find better models with less compromises and more features, are you willing to fork out more $$ for them? There's a price to be paid for perfection.

      • +3

True. I'm just trying to talk myself out of buying a TV I really don't need.

  • Hi folks, just wondering if you would consider a seconds or refurbished from the Sony store (eBay)? It's quite a bit cheaper, but uncertain as to them having issues. The least I want is to keep having to call them over problems and return the TV! Does anyone have experience with these?

    • +1

This 65" is actually cheaper new from TGG than it is refurb direct from Sony.

      • I was thinking of the 4K models. Trying to figure between this 65 inch FHD and a 55 inch 4K. Any thought?

        • I went this 65" FHD. I don't anticipate much 4K content being available to me over the next few years, and by then I'll probably be wanting an OLED display. I'm upgrading from a 46" FHD so a significant jump up in size is going to be a lot more noticeable to me than 4K.

        • @vestrosaurus: Thanks heaps! :)

        • @vestrosaurus: Same. Looking forward to testing it out!

  • I know it's not an exact science, but what do people think is the maximum size threshold where it would no longer be generally advisable to purchase a 1080FHD screen instead of a 4K one? And why? Distance from TV, perceived PPI, content, price, wow factor?

  • Might be worth checking the reviews regarding the limited viewing angle of this set before you pull the trigger..

  • +4

Got mine delivered earlier today. Finished setting it up.

The thing is huge. Really huge. My previous TV waa a 46" and this is an almost overwhelming upgrade. For the first 15 minutes I wished for the 55"! Now I'm used to it :)

I didn't care for the default picture settings, but have tweaked each channel for Xbox, Bluray, Digital TV etc and everything looks great.

The dedicated Netflix button is outstanding and really makes the streaming experience great and fast.

I downloaded the latest firmware / software update on first boot, this took ages. Maybe an hour and I have NBN. I can't really compare as I didn't try the shipped OS, but the latest version is very fast - no issues at all.

I agree the backlighting is a little noticeable in the corners in a white or light background, but when in general usage you don't see it. I tried a variety of movies like Dark Knight, Monsters Inc, Avengers and everything was spectacular.

Xbox games run beautifully, no noticeable lag or blurring to me.

I really think you can't get much better value for money considering the size, performance and feature set to dollars here.

  • Thanks vestrosaurus! That's a very comprehensive review. :)

Does anyone know if you can actually install Plex, VLC or Kodi etc on the Android TV? Without having to get another AppleTV or streaming box? Will it be possible to get the TV to talk to a NAS?

    • +1

I don't have this TV, but after reading the majority of this thread: https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2439884
I'd say, Yes, you can install Plex, VLC and Kodi - as they are compatible with Android TV (most apps aren't). TV should be able to talk to a NAS using something like kodi or plex (if you can run a plex server).

PS: I haven't actually tried any of the above, but in that whirlpool thread plenty of others have with Sony Android TVs.

      • Thanks mate! :) That was really helpful. I also found the calibration settings for the TV- really useful!

    • +2

Can confirm, I have the TV and installing Kodi and VLC was done in a minute from the stock OS menu's Google Play store.

      • Awesome! Yet another reason to ditch the old TV and AppleTV haha :) Thanks vestrosaurus!

      • vestrosaurus,

Have you updated to the new firmware? I read on that whirlpool thread someone said they updated to the new firmware and then couldn't put in a custom DNS (when using a static IP). If you have updated to the new firmware, can you confirm if you are still able to set a custom DNS when specifying a static IP?

        Thanks

        • Using the latest firmware yep.

Just had a look - no issue adding a custom DNS with static IP over wifi.

        • @vestrosaurus:
          Thanks!

  • Price now increased to $1599 after 20%

  • How does this compare to say the hisense 65k700 model?
