  • Is it possible to use these with OC ram ddr4 2600?

    • +2

It's not advised but it will work most of the time. However, your OC ram would operate at the lower speed (2400).

    • +2

Performance-wise there'd be no noticeable difference but your e-peen would unfortunately shrink a bit.

If your sticks are running at 2600 then they will need to be slowed to 2400 or whatever maximum these are capable of doing.

    • Your computer is only as fast as its slowest component this is what a bottleneck is. If mixing ram you could also experience incompatibility issues. Worst case scenario is you get a blue screen of death. When adding ram it is always best to use the exact same brand and speed.

  • Wonder if they'll keep dropping or go up. Looking at a build when Broadwell E comes out (hopefully June). Tempted to buy 32gb worth and just have them ready.

    • +3

      No way to tell.

Main reason they went up so high in the past couple of years is because:

      1) a fire that destroyed a bunch of factories that supply the mem chips to ram makers
      2) increasing demands for these chips in smartphones

      • Thanks mate.
        Just a great price.

Last week I was going to buy two (16GB) of these for AU$145, but now I can buy four (32GB) for AU$187 - very awesome.

  • Thanks OP ordered two

  • Is there an issue with populating all 4 dimm slots on the Mobo when it comes to OCing or general mobo stability. I remember back in the days of DDR2/DDR3 that it wasnt generally advised to have all 4 slots populated.

Is this still current? or is this old/out of date info?

    • You're still stressing the memory controller more so I don't think it will ever be recommended over higher capacity sticks if possible. And yeah, there are still issues. From not be able to run xmp, though I'm not sure if half the people bother try manually inputting timings and clocks, to not being able to boot, like mine, it won't POST at rated speed on anything but one specific beta bios. Of course, plenty of people run it completely fine, sooo good luck!

      • I feel your pain… Got some DDR4 3000 and the dam thing won't post with anything over 2133

        • Have a Gigabyte Z170 motherboard and my Corsair DDR4 3200 also wouldn't boot if the XMP profile was enabled. Updated to the latest beta bios and it's happily running at full speed now :)

        • Damn.

Hope yours isn't stupid like mine was and actually defaults back to a bootable clock rather than going into a boot loop on optimised defaults.

        • @TheContact: yep, that stupid as well… But to be honest there is probably a way to sort ot out by playing with the voltages. I'm just not that fuased about it as I just got the PC built so I'm still pretty happy with the upgrade as it is. But I know it's just a matter of time… Hahaha

        • @educalifa: Hah yeah. It was my choice of case, and subsequently cooler, that got me all annoyed when dealing with the memory issues. That and the thought that any new bios upgrade could have me pulling the system apart wasn't pleasant.

I'm gonna hazard a guess you have a Gigabyte board? I can't imagine more than one vendor would have the board going into a boot loop for memory clock issues. Anyway, If it's any help, the bios that worked for me was the beta with the memory compatibility upgrade. Specifically F4b if you happen to have a UD5-TH, but no one does :p

        • @TheContact: No, I have the Asrock extreme 6+. With Z170 being somewhat new most manufacturers are still putting out new BIOS to fix teething issues. I'm hoping it won't take too long though

        • @educalifa: Ahh right. Yeah, I've seen quite a few reports of memory issues, but not once of someone not being able to post. Here's hoping a fix comes soon for you.

If not, you might want to try contacting Asrock support. I did with Gigabyte, and while they were a bit slow, they did try giving me a few bios(es?) to test before the working one popped up on the site.

          All the best!

        • @TheContact: it posts just not if I change the ram frequency from 2133. I'll contact Asrock, nothing to lose really

  • I am upgrading from 16GB. Is 32GB overkill?

    • Depends what you do on your computer…For me a lot of Photoshop so the more the better. I recently purchased 32gb ddr3 from a deal last week to replace 16gb.

Tempted to get 32gb of these and have them ready for an upgrade to broadwell E.

    • Yeah probably. But at this price if you have some extra $, no harm.

Will it make your gaming faster? Most likely not.

  • Bought 2, cheers OP!

  • I'm running 16gb ddr at 2600 same kit as these picked it up for $108 off Amazon last year. I find 16gb of ddr4 is sufficient for photo shop does anyone think I'd get speed gains by going 32gb?

  • Good deal. I bought 2x8gb from yesterday's deal for $111. Could've saved more had I waited but…

  • Thanks op.. bought 4 sticks…

Now all we need is the AUD to rise a bit more …

  • When will the 16gb sticks come down?

  • I have ASRock Fatal1ty H170 motherboard, interl i7 6700, is it compatible with this ram?

    • Pretty sure it is. How much did you pay for the motherboard?

  • besides being Temp out of stock what is wrong with this Amazon Seller it's $32.99 USD but has $5.38 import Fee's?

    • It was sold by amazon, looks like it has expired.

      • so has the price in this thread :(

I actually already have Kingston HyperX Fury HX426C15FBK4/16 16GB 4x4GB DDR4 Black is it worth upgrading to 32GB of these if they go back on sale?

Mine have a higher clock speed (not by much) but I am doing a new build for someone so I could easily offload my old RAM into there's, looking at these prices I can't believe just under a year ago I paid $340 for it!
