It is my view that saturation is the key here.

Some years ago, well before OzBargain existed, I happened across some quite good quality phillips head screwdrivers for a dollar a piece.

Knowing a bargain when I saw one, and being in a situation where I always needed phillips screwdrivers for fixing computers at home, at work, everywhere, I proceeded to buy 25 of these good quality one dollar screwdrivers.

In my world, 25 screwdrivers was enough that there was a screwdriver everywhere I looked, and I never couldn't find a screwdriver. That was probably 10 or more years ago, and I still stumble across those bloody screwdrivers every day! :-)

      Mission accomplished.

      Saturation, my friend! Saturation.

    • i have one relatively small quality toolkit that has mostly everything i need, plus a quality claw hammer, drill bits, levels etc.
By having only one toolkit it's easy enough to put everything back when finished a task, and i know where it is next time.
      This: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Teng-Tools-3-8dr-48-pc-complete-t…
(I didn't pay full price for it… i got it from cash converters. I assume the previous owner was some junkie who stole it from some poor tradies ute…)

i then have a bunch of random screwdrivers, hammers, spanners etc. that wife and kids can use, because the earth will freeze over before any of those people learn to return something to where they borrowed it from!

      • The junkie has landed you with a good range of common tools.

Lots of tools here on OzBargain, and you don't have to spend anywhere near $400 for the experience…

I rate SCA tools slightly higher than my 4 year old son's 58 piece Tonka toolkit. Slightly. My SCA toolkit experience:
Hammer - Shaft splintered after minimal use and hammer face pitted easily
Screwdrivers - Most would give Houdini a run for his money as a contortionist
Tape measure - Flimsy and prone to permanent kinks
Pliers - Didn't break, they were just never sharp enough to cut 2.5mm twin+earth
    Buy once, cry once.

    • The Stanley tool kits are a similar price and would be better value.

  • Wow 300 piece
Imagine the amount of cable ties included
ok to be fair there 55 piece crimping set instead here
