Hey Guys

This deal is pretty sweet, and i signed up last Friday after a friend told me about it. Its government funded. $500 in matched savings for attending a couple of finance workshops and its run nationally

I have put the info about it below.

cheers !

Saver Plus assists individuals and families on lower incomes to build assets and improve financial capability, and has supported thousands of lower income earners to develop a lasting savings habit.

Saver Plus offers:

up to $500 in matched savings for education costs
fun, free and informal financial education workshops
assistance and support from a local Saver Plus worker to establish a savings goal and develop a savings habit.
Participants make regular deposits towards a savings goal over a 10-month period and attend workshops to build their financial management skills. When participants reach their savings goal, ANZ matches the amount – up to $500 – towards education costs including uniforms, text books, laptops, sports equipment, music tuition, TAFE or apprenticeship costs, and much more.

Who is eligible?

You may be eligible to join Saver Plus if you:

have a Centrelink Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card
are at least 18 years old
have some regular income from work (you or your partner) including casual, part-time, full-time or seasonal employment
have a child at school or attend vocational education yourself.

I did this a few years ago. All good.

    • How often are the workshops and how long do they go for?

      • +1

Mine had about 8 sessions of 1 hour each. Another (below) had 2 longer sessions.

  • Anyone know what the matched $500 could be spent on other than the things listed on there?

    • Says education costs.

    • +2

"education costs including uniforms, text books, laptops, sports equipment, music tuition, TAFE or apprenticeship costs, and much more."

need to read the fine print on the claim form, when you get it.

My sister bought her daughter a camera as she was doing photography at school.

Presumably most uni students won't qualify as their courses aren't vocational.

  • How do people sign up? Do they have to send a mail to the listed email address?

  • How many workshops do u have to attend. $500 May more be worth the hassle of its like 10+

This isn't a deal. Should be in the forums.

When I attended ours a few years ago (in WA), it was hosted by a nice lady at our local life-savers club near the beach. She had decided to do two, four hour workshops (with Subway subs for lunch & breaks in-between) vs. four, two hour meet-ups. SO, eight hours in total. It's up to whoever your local person is to decide. There's more info & a pdf of where to go locally here:

I found it very interesting & got a lot of useful information out of it. Well worth the time & definitely worth the $$$. I did the max & deposited $50 per month for the ten months & had mine back at the end with $500 for school items (included PC's).

    Excellent program.

    FYI

Edit: the new forms on ANZ now show 10 hr. class.

Another government funded program to be milked

Not at all. And it's a pretty lousy attitude you have there for a very worthwhile program. You must be speaking from your derrière…

I learned a LOT attending this & it did help me to make better choices in my spending habits— which is the point of the course.

It also informs about super funds & credit ratings, as well as the things which you do that can end up you having a negative rating (that you would never have imagined & has nothing to do with "not paying", btw).

Shame on you, for an opinion which is ill-informed & non-productive.

Edit: shame also on anyone who gives a neg vote & has issues with a struggling family who wants to work towards getting ahead. You must be LNP.

Opinions are like arse holes, we all have one but I'm not interested in knowing about yours…

Negged for unnecessary inclusion of politics. Lose the chip on your shoulder & put the energy into bettering your situation instead of having a cry about it.

How is it being milked if the purpose of the program is to get people to the workshops to educate them, create an incentive to save money and then providing money for further educational purposes?

It sounds like it's achieving exactly what it's meant to.

    • +1

You'll find its the service providers and not the participant who are milking the taxpayer.

  • +2

Is it only for youself, or if you have young kids at school can you do it to use the money towards their education.

    • +2

Either. I did it for my kids, at the time.

Check the info or just ring them- they're very nice.

      :)

  • Will give it a go.

So do you need to enrol into an actual course. Or do you just register with anz??

    I need a new tablet

    • I called up,

you need to have all of those requirements, I guess the hardest one would be
      - have a child at school or attend vocational education yourself

      which I dont,
A great deal for those that qualify!

  • Any idea where the programs are run? It states "over 60 locations" but I can't seem to find actual town and city names…

  • +4

Should state health care or pension card required in title

  • I'm a uni student doing masters education, on centrelink youth allowance. Would that make me eligible under the vocational education criteria?

  • +1

Are the requirement points in the OP OR, or AND?

If I don't have a centrelink health care card but have a child at school am I not eligible?

    • Anyone?

      • I think they are AND

  • +1

Another good rebate around in NSW is the $500 for small business/sole traders.Register for an event and get the rebate back, I'm putting mine towards a standing desk

  • +1

wow. its still around. i joined this program yearsss ago during uni with centrelink payment n a casual job.

you need to setup a saving plan 50 to anz account for 12months. got there finally n bought a computer desk and chair for $500!

  • +2

Thanks for posting OP. They also have a "no-interest loan scheme" for those on a low income.

  • +1

Can confirm that university students ARE eligible. I also thought we wouldn't be but thought I'd apply anyway. I receive Austudy.
I'll be attending 2 x 4 hour sessions which seems really manageable! Looking forward to learning some stuff too. As I'm coming to the tail end of my degree I don't really need any laptops, books etc so am going to ask if I can put it towards HECS.

  • Great post OP. Also nrg2010 :) Thanks.

I have applied for both the rebate and the matched savings :)

    I am eligible for both…

    Cheers
