This. I bought it in last years black friday sale for $130 USD which was a historical low then, this is defintely a bargain and pound for pound probly the cheapest price per $ to GB ratio money can buy. In 4 months use the quality has been good, not a problem.
They might be thinking of the desktop model. I thought that too until I read "portable" :D
No, I have this in my wishlist and I refresh my wishlist almost everyday. I personaly bought 2 last year at around U$149. But since this year, the price dropped to this U$119 range so to me this is not really a surprising price.
@netsurfer: U$119 is the regular price for the recent period. It went lower temporarily before and surely would not last.

the equivalent 8tb DESKTOP (aka, 3.5" bigger physical size) of US$229 also from amazon.com, makes the portable unit more desirable, IMO.

I've tried to do a search for this model online, but can't find any evidence of it being removable from its case. Have you done this before with this particular model? Or read/seen of this being done somewhere online?
This particular model, no, unfortunately. But I reckon if the case isn't made of adamantium, it wouldn't require much effort to pry open.
@albert0pia: I'm not so much concerned about the case being impenetrable, more that the drive itself is soldered to the connector on the casing.
Is this covered by any warranty in AU?
I always register my product with the url in the paperwork and I choose my country in the address details as Australia.

I received my 4TB portable Hard-drive on Thursday 24th March 2016 :)
I want to use this drive for a time machine for my iMac. Do I need the programs / files that's installed on the drive?
