Radio Controlled Tarantula Spider $16 @Kmart

80

Was browsing for a cheap wii u controller and came across this really cheap way to scare relatives at family dinners.

The exact same model goes for $30-40ish on eBay. There are cheaper models from some sellers but in the photos the spider doesn't look anywhere near as convincing as this one.

Sure there's cheaper ways to give friends and family a heart attack, but I'm going to try my luck with this.

These things would be great for scaring people if they didn't make such an obvious RC sound when they move

        GET TO THE CHOPPER!

  • Hmmmm could be worth it when camping if you find a good hiding spot

Doubt anyone will fall for it in the backyard, def not in the house with you wielding an conspicuous controller 2 m away

  • Yeah, might be scary if not such loud gear noises.

This is not one of those cool walking RC toys, it has wheels, and the legs just kind of wave around. Needs a smooth floor.
Will hopefully entertain a preschooler for a short while before it breaks.

Warning: it will randomly spasm in the middle of the night. I'm not sure if my kid's one was running low on batteries or if the spider was still on whilst the radio controller was off or if something else was interfering with the signal transmission… all I know is that when you are sent to investigate a strange occasional scratching coming from their cupboard in the middle of the night for your child and are on high adrenalin alert for a mouse or a bug or something, then this big thing starts unexpectingly twitching (without someone holding the controller), well yes it is mightily scary. In the daytime, it's fine but confuses the dog.

    • That's somewhat disturbing. I think I would've taken it back to the store the following day if I still had the receipt. Thanks for warning others.

Customer: I would like to return this item. It's faulty.
      Staff: What's wrong with it?
      Customer: It's possessed!
Staff: Would you like an exchange or refund?
      Customer: Refund please.

I read "spatula" and started to theorize about automated flipping…tired

  • Well its the size of a dinner plate, which kind of takes away from the scary factor.

    • Me thinks it adds to the scary factor… because well, girls.

  • My friend got one of these and it only goes forward and backward. You cant turn left and right

  • This is just evil!!! hehehe

  • I've had a wild tarantula on my bald head.

I just thought your life would be better knowing that.

  • We had one of these a few years ago. Took it back as it was really noisy. Not what we expected!

  • These things shed a lot of hair.

  • i should've bought more from Reject Shop when they were $10 last year
