Amaysim $44.90 Starter Packs with 300 International Min and 5GB Data $10 (Save $34.90) @ Woolworths

880

Please be aware that as per this comment, packs MAY need to be activated before 29/3/2016

Time to stock on on cheap starter packs for the next 12 months or so. Seems woollies is clearing these for the new 28 day amaysim plans

These technically should activate on the new plans so you should get the extra data allowance

    • This is new. Up until this point everyone said that these sim's do not have an expiry date. Can someone else please comment? I was going to buy a few of these after getting home from work in the evening. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

    • That sux, nothing on external packaging.

    • Hold on a sec, I'm talking with Live Chat again and it looks like there may have been a miscommunication the first time. I'll update soon.

    • Yup, looks like you need to activate the SIM before the expiry; 29/03.
Support: you had asked: So, I can activate the SIM at the end of April if I need to? My response was: No the sim does need to be activated before the expiry of the promotion. 29/03

      • +1

this is quite misleading…there is no mention of expiry date when you buy the packs. How will nay one know that this has to be activated before 29/03??

        • +1

Yep, very misleading. But hopefully other people don't buy this. I'll be posting this on the top comment just so no one misses out on the info.

        • +3

          @BobbyJ:

          ive updated the post.

Best thing is chat with them, give them the sim serial number and ask when the expiry date is.

        • +5

Could it be that the 29/3 expiry refers to the last day Woolworths may issue the activation slip ie. put the $44.90 value onto the SIM for $10? In other words, for the SIM be "paid for". The term was explained to me by the 7 eleven store where I last bought a similar $10 starter SIM deal (which I think is the deal type being offered here at Woolies). On the back of the SIM pack, it still requires the user to "activate" online at amaysim.com.au/go before using the SIM and it does not show any expiry date. Therefore I believe the 29/3 "deadline" is relevant between Amaysim and the suppliers to lock in the sales on this particular promotion. For users, I reckon the SIM card may be stored until we are ready to use them. I hope my interpretation is right anyway as I haven't needed to activate/start using my mine yet.

        • +1

@Mcz: I think you interpretation could be spot on as that would be exactly 7 days offer for the price of $10. Maybe that is what the customer service trying to interpret. Regardless, looking at 7 eleven offers, looks like there isn't any word mentioning there is an expiry date on these cards.

    • Thats the god damn expire date…activation or sims date is expiration date for the sims

Hi Alik. How may I help you?

      Alik 10:37 am

hi purchased a 5 gb unlimited sim pack at 7/11

do they have any expiry date ?

      Simon 10:38 am

No expiry date ,are you asking because you do not wish to activate yet?

      Alik 10:38 am

yes because i have bought 4 but only activated 1 so far

      Simon 10:39 am

That's fine, you can activate whenever you wish.

Have I managed to resolve your query today?

      Alik 10:40 am

i think so , because someone said because they were on promotion for $10 they must be activated by the end of this month

      Simon 10:41 am

promotions are usually for new online orders

so if you are not on promotion then you feel free to activate whenever you wish
Have I managed to resolve your query today?

      Alik 10:41 am

      I hope so thank you

what we buy is 44 pack. discount is given by wollies and its prepaid… how do they even know which one we brought for this discounted price?
Expiry date should be on the pack ?

  • Can i please confirm that the vodafone 30 starter packs are no longer $10 please

    • mate get the $40 ones for approx $12 from ebay , tons of people selling them.
      Good value for money

      • +1

I'd rather go to Coles than a no-name eBay seller.

    • +4

Coles got the vodafone starter pack for 10bucks which started today

    • Coles is flogging $30 Vodafone starter packs for $10 until Tuesday. Hop to it!

  • +1

I picked up a few and they had to produce a docket on the system, 1 docket to go with each starter pack (defo the 44.90 5B listed on each orange packet). Upon reading each docket they list the last digits of each sim serial, also the word "activation" and "activation could take up to 24hrs"..I'm assuming that doesn't mean fully activated, how could it as no name, licence, address etc supplied…but the above scenario would also be wasted money if they all required activation before 29th, seems a bit extreme, did I miss the fine print on this?

    • +1

The 24 hour activation may be referring to the activation at the cashier. It may take 24 hours before the SIM can be activated. You can only activate the SIM on the Amaysim website after it's activated at the cashier (which may take up to 24 hours). At least, that's my interpretation of it.

    • As far as I am concern with the expiry, looks like it wasn't mentioned in the latest catalog. I suggest may we should save the catalog as a reference in any case shit hits the fan.

      • +3

All you'd actually need is the following:

        • Amaysim starter pack
        • "Touch" receipt that is produced at POS
        • Your Woolworths receipt.

For all the starter packs that I've hoarded over time, I sticky tape both receipts to each individual starter pack. That way, if a starter pack refuses to work when you need it to, TIO that straight away.

  • The Vodafone $30 starter kit isn't that much of value though? But yeah still better than the recharge kit.

  • +2

so because of the update with the Customer service, this means this is no longer a bargain as we cannot stock this up to be use for over a year?

    • +1

I was planning to go to Woolworths after work too. Not sure if I should be happy or sad :(

    • +1

But if there's no expiry on the packs and nothing noted in the catalogue at the time of purchase then even if we purchase them and they expire we should be safe right?

      • +1

True, but I just don't feel "safe" now. Having to switch to a different provider is one thing, having uncertainty in the bargain is another thing.

        • +1

Yeah, I was just about to go down to Woolworths too.
I think I might still stock up provided there is no mention of an expiry anywhere (I'll buy 1 and open it just to be sure). It'd be misleading for them to not include an expiry on the packs so if they do actually expire we'll be at least eligible for a refund.

      • +2

yep that what we are all hoping for because it would clearly state in the label like other telcos simcard if it has any expiry dates. But the biggest question is, are we brave enough to risk it. =( i wanted to know more too.

          Sorry kaptn,whats TIO?

        • +7

          @angelkulit025:

Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman. Any problems with telcos which you cannot sort out with them, TIO is your best bet. But, as daunting as that might sound, they are a pleasure to deal with.

Last month, I tried activating a $30 Optus starter pack which I got for $10 in a 2014 click frenzy sale. It refused to activate despite having an expiry date of 1 April. Couldn't sort it out with live chat so took it to the TIO.

2 weeks later and I've received a $60 cheque in the mail from Optus.

  • +1

What about OP..have you bought any yet?

  • +2

LOL if they all expire by 29/03 then i'm stuffed. $110 down the drain

You won't be the only brother. The entire OZB goes down with you.

      ~cue Titanic~

        • +1

Why not try opening one up and find out if it does actually expire. As someone else mentioned above, it might just be that you need to activate your purchase from Woolworths and not the actual sim. If you can try that out and update us, it will be a massive help to the Ozb community.

        • @Austin 316: No expiry on the pack or on the card.(similar to Vodafone starter packs)
its clearly mentioned to activate online www.amaysim.com.au/go and has no expiry date anywhere

      • That is a great idea. Had never thought of this earlier..

Actually what do you do if you buy 5 starter packs in one receipt? Photocopy the receipt 4 times so that you can stick it on the other ones?

And actually what's the "touch" receipt you're referring to? I can only recall getting one receipt (a standard Woolies/Coles one) from all prior starter pack purchases.

        • you also get a activation receipt for each starter pack along with the normal receipt.

        • @spk: Are you sure? I don't recall ever getting activation receipts (unlike purchasing gift cards) for starter packs.

        • +1

@illumination: I can definitely confirm receiving pre-activation receipts for each starter pack.

        • +1

From Woolies, you'll get a little activation slip for each starter pack that you purchase. This is generated after the receipt is printed. Each slip will contain the last 4 digits of the long barcode on the back of the pack itself. Match these up then tape them together. In this case you won't even need the receipt.

If the register doesn't print the slips and instead incorporates this as part of the receipt (as Coles does), then make the necessary number of copies of that receipt, take then to each starter pack and you're done.

  • if the expiry is on 29th why dont you return it now or before 28th..

    • receipt says non-refundable, but i'll check when i get home

      • +1

        oh thats nasty

    • You cannot return telco products at Coles or WW.

  • To go after work (now) or not to go? I already had a family member buy me some earlier today (got 3 waiting at home) before the update from live chat…

    • +2

I would highly recommend that you go for this offer. The validity details have been misinterpreted.

      • too late :(

I went this morning before work and out of stock

        • Have you visited/are you able to visit any other Woolies?

Don't be disheartened, there's still almost a week to go so they might find stock to put up later…

        • @KaptnKaos: Haha all good, that's exactly what I'll be doing tonight and over the long weekend :)

  • Ive bought 4 from moonee ponds woolies. The lady printed 4 separate dockets and when ive asked if that is the recharge voucher, she told me that it was a pre activation from woolies.

    • Yeah correct. With all starter kits they now print off an 'activation' slip, not sure if it's their internal process or the telco's process.
You won't be getting a seperate recharge voucher as the sim is pre-loaded with credit.

      • +1

You don't strictly need the activation slips, but that is your only proof of legitimately having purchased the starter packs. If the carrier claims that your starter pack does not have credit, your tax invoice/receipt will only state a generic "Amaysim starter pack". The activation slip is your only way of proving that you genuinely obtained the starter pack and that the store activated the pack at POS.

With WW and Coles, the activation slip might actually be integrated into the actual receipt, so it always pays to grab a receipt when purchasing starter packs and taking a closer look at it to make sure that the activation details match the digits noted on the starter pack itself.

        Hope this helps.

  • I dont believe this one will expire on the 29th as i have seen some amaysim sim cards which still has the old packaging from when it was first release at woolies. That first batch shouldve expired by now if what they were saying is true.

  • Its really hard to find these buggers..ive been to 3 woolies on my way home and only 1 has them. :(

    • Where are you located?

      • Northern suburbs melbourne

        • Oh, sorry about that. I'm in SE Melbourne otherwise I could've helped.

        • @KaptnKaos: well i can go there tomorrow…school finishes early..just tell me where and which woolies still have stock?

        • +1

          @angelkulit025:

What I'd recommend is that instead of chasing the elusive Amaysim starter packs at Woolworths, have you thought of trying for the $30 Vodafone starter packs over at Coles? They're also going for $10 until Tuesday and much, much easier to find.

        • @KaptnKaos: but vodafone starter pack is not as good as amaysim with regards to the data inclusion.

        • @angelkulit025:

True, the Vodafone pack might not be as good as the Amaysim pack, but they both beat paying $30/$40 each month for the same service…

  • Sold out regency plaza SA. Got a rain check for whatever that is worth though!

  • 15 packs available now at Carnegie VIC. Located at the service desk so please don't be a nuff nuff and wander around the store ;)

Activation does not expire on the 29/3/2016. That is when the current Amaysim $10 promotion is over & the Woolworth's catalogue ends. I was on the Live Chat with two operators earlier of which the second one explained.

Both operators were not happy when challenged about the port number in / out routine. According to the operators the promotion is valid 1 per customer, the second operator, continued with, I would be flagged in the system and my number would be blocked (loss of offer / credit) on the second port-in attempt…. but could not point me to this information in the terms & conditions.

The second operator also mentioned the packs / promotion are valid for 12 months. $*@!^

    • How come you're swearing at the end of your comment? Isn't this all good news?

      • Is that what my random keystrokes mean. Oops.

Don't really know what to think of it all. The initial operator told me to refund the SIM cards as I could only activate 1 until the 29/03 and left me quite confused.

        • +1

Oh i see in that case swearing warranted

  • +2

Yes, no need to worry. I think the expiry date of 29/3 only applies to the activation that Woolies does when they sell them. This date ties in with when the Woolies sale of these end. Woolies have to activate these (not the same 'activate' that the customer does) so that the SIM cards have a value on them. They otherwise have no value for example to stop people shoplifting them.

  • Just visited Glen Huntly WW. At least 20 packs still available.

    Enjoy.

    • Wow..too far for me :(

      • Yeah, on the other side of town :(

  • For is the activation slip for? I did not get any activation slips this morning . I bought 3 packs.

    • you don't need them.
Woollies system will add value to your starter pack and that is what the activation slip is for.

      • Do I need to put in any code to activate the sim?

put in your SIM number, followed by your personal details(ID) and just wait for the confirmation message

    • You don't strictly need the activation slips, but that is your only proof of legitimately having purchased the starter packs.
