Enter "sbginsurance888" in the referral code at the checkout of VisionDirect.com.au to receive up to $19.95 worth of shipping insurance.

Website: http://www.visiondirect.com.au

Normal Shipping Insurance rates:
Insured up to $250 value - $9.95
Insured up to $600 value - $19.95

Note: This is not free shipping! Insurance (Optional) is an addition to shipping costs, which for my order of contact lenses came to $5.95.

I came across VisionDirect.com.au from RewardsCentral and they appear to sell heavily discounted contact lenses online as well as prescription glasses and sunglasses (designer range available).

Reviews from RC are ok - mainly bargain prices noted but one customer did say the service he/she received was 'substandard' and could be improved. What I'm buying is straightforward so I am personally not expecting this to be an issue.

Their parent company/is an affiliate of SmartBuyGlasses.com (American company from what I can see). VisionDirect.com.au run a toll free customer service phone number in Australia and have a NSW based fax and mailing address.

  • This is hardly a bargain……

  • +2

Got this from another thread here. http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=874622

I personally have not dealt with Vision Direct myself and can't comment on their service.

    • Thanks for the link, interesting read and I would definitely think twice before ordering prescription glasses/sunglasses off them. I'm hoping my experience with contacts would be much better. :)

  • Ordered 1 pair from Vision Direct before, a branded eyewear.

They never have stock and expect you to wait at least three weeks before it gets done. Requested refund but was promised many times before it actually happened.

I had headaches with my pair and ended up going to a local optometrist to get them reglazed (fitted with new lenses).

They're frames were half the price of the local op shop (major outlet). That's the only good part. If you want to save time and money, order the frames and get them reglazed locally in person for better suit.

    Hope this helps!

  • not sure how you can go wrong ordering contact lenses….spent $90 and saved $590 on what my optometrist charges !

    • pretty sure you did not read my post. I said frames and branded eyewear and reglazing and fitting with new lenses.

Never said anything about contact lenses.

      • I think Coops1 just meant it as a general comment as it wasn't in reply to yours. Thanks for sharing your experience though.

        • Your right, was just a general comment. I can see the problems that could happen with glasses

We should all be sure to get that check-up every 2yrs (is for me) to make sure nothing has changed to the prescription etc.

  • are they authentic? seems sus after flickn through that forum thread

  • I don't really think this is a bargain in the spirit of OzBargains.

And besides, VisionDirect hasn't had a good rap in the past, as Livert's Whirlpool link above makes clear.

VisionDirect appears to be simply a re-shipper/drop-shipper for other businesses, which is why their orders take so long to be supplied.

For what it's worth, over the years I've bought script glasses from http://www.optical4less.com/ in HK without any problems. They're cheap & fast with pretty good quality. My only gripe is that I would prefer a larger range of the type of frames I like, and hence I may buy from someone else next time.

  • This is no way a bargain.

  • I agree this isn't a bargain. Just to update people on VD and the service, I ordered some basic bicycling glasses 20 days ago, around $30 and I know I took a risk, even with the shipping supposedly only taking up to max 15 days. Still waiting.
