The 10,000 only used the Type C port to charge the power bank which is really disappointing.

Not true, that would be pointless. With a quick Google search it shows it outputs power from the Type-C port too. Where'd you read that?

          Your googlefu needs some work.

          http://www.banggood.com/Original-Xiaomi-10000mAh-Bothway-QC2…

It comes with a Type A to Micro USB cable and a Micro USB to Type C adapter.

The Type C port is only used to charge the battery bank as tested by Banggood. The images from Xiaomi show it being used for Type C charging of products using the included cable and adapter.

@Maverick-au: As soon as you scroll down on that link you posted, it says "Supports Type-C charging and discharging"

Well yes, microUSB products need the adapter. They don't magically work with Type-C.

Where does it say it supports charging and discharging from the Type C port?

Really? Here is what you missed (despite them being clearly listed on that page).

          Model: PLM01ZM
          Input interface: Type C
          Conversion rate: 93%
Output interface: USB-A (type-c port does not support discharging)

          And Banggood actually tested this…

Hi, we've tested and the type-c port does not support discharging. So sorry about that. But the power of it is amazing. Nearly reach to 20W.

Well yes, microUSB products need the adapter. They don't magically work with Type-C.

Sigh…. really do I need to hold your hand…. It comes with a Type A to micro USB cable and it also comes with a micro USB to type C adapter. This is clearly pictured in the photos from Xiaomi. It DOES NOT COME WITH A Type-C to micro USB adapter.

Literally the first image on the Banggood page when you scroll down.

Xiaomi built the thing, so I'm pretty sure they know what they're saying. Obviously Banggood didn't test it very well, as people on Reddit's r/Nexus6P have been raving about how exciting this thing is. To put a USB Type-C port on a power bank simply for charging it would be so unbelievably pointless, and Xiaomi quote how fast it can charge a Macbook with the higher current provided by the Type-C interface.

I don't know if you're being obtuse on purpose or not so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

Type C discharging is via the USB A port using the supplied cable and adapter. This is clearly shown further down.
Type C charging is via the USB C port using your own cable and charger.

          Pretty clear cut.

Just like their 20,000mAh product they charge using the Type A ports and they charge the Macbook via the same Type A port using the same Type A to micro USB and an adapter to convert the micro USB to Type C.

          https://www.reddit.com/r/nexus5x/comments/49xj4c/just_got_my…

"Just got my hands on a set, I can confirm that it does not support fast charge for the Nexus 5X.
Also it's rather disappointing that the USB Type C port on the power bank is only for power input not output, so my attempts to charge the Nexus 5x with the original USB Type C Male to Male cable that came bundled with the phone failed."

          Pretty clear cut isn't it?

I don't know if it's the stupidest as it works for people who have Type C chargers but it would be nice to have bidirectional usage and I'll wait for a power bank that has this. Hopefully it's not far away. Ideally 10-20,000mAh with two Type C and one Type A.

For god's sake, my Nexus 6P's Type-C port is bidirectional, it's built right into the interface. For a power bank to not support it, especially at this price (expensive for a Xiaomi power bank) is just insane.

I almost purchased it as well and only stopped when the postage cost appeared and I started thinking I should research this more if it's $47 and not $37!

I suspect there are many other factors at play here including all the Type C cables with incorrect resisters but I wish they would hurry up as I want as many products (including notebooks) to start using Type C. I would buy the Surface 4 if it had Type C but I want to avoid having too many non standard chargers as it's a pain when travelling, the Huawei Matebook has a Type C port so I may buy that when it's released but it only has one port for some stupid reason so you need a dongle if you want to charge and use say a ethernet port or usb drive. FFS why can't they fit say four Type C ports to it?

Type C is supposed to be the future but limited support from Manufacturers (thanks Samsung) is going to slow this down.

You're not allowed to have an opinion on here.

  • Shipping cost kills this deal. It shows $8 to Sydney Metro.

iBuyGou usually provide free shipping for item this small. Not sure why they now decided to charge shipping?
Wrong setting on your website, rep?

    • The price AU$37 already including shipping.

      • +1

        pretty sure it's AU$47

        • yes ,that's right ,it should be $47AU

  • so 10000 model has usb-c and regular usb ports, while 20000 model has 2x regular usb ports? is this correct?

      • no, the details are not clear. the 10000 model just says "Type C adpter is presented as a gift in the package for you." it does not say what ports it has, nor does it have an image of the ports.

i suggest you add these details to the product page.

        • Thanks for your suggestion, will do.

        • no, the details are not clear. the 10000 model just says "Type C adpter is presented as a gift in the package for you." it does not say what ports it has, nor does it have an image of the ports.

Are you unable to google the product name and look at all the images and pages that come back showing and describing it having a type C port for charging (only power bank battery - cannot charge other products) and a type A usb port for charging?

        • @Maverick-au:

Yes, and that is exactly what I did. I merely posted to confirm my findings.

Then, when I was told to read the product description on the OP's website, I gave feedback to the OP that their product description was unclear, hence why I was asking for confirmation in the first place. This feedback was happily accepted (because it was valid feedback).

There's no need to be a twat about it. The 50-post argument you just had above (in which you indeed were correct) demonstrates that there is potential confusion with this product, no?

Nonetheless, i thank you for your efforts to clarify information on this product above.

        • @caprimulgus:
And what I was getting at was don't rely on a vendor for product information on a product like this as there is plenty of room for assumptions to be made (like the usage of the Type C port). Shouldn't have to be this way but unfortunately that's the way it is.

        • @Maverick-au:

I agree with that entirely. 100%.

However I humbly suggest to you that the way you communicated that in your first response to me was needlessly antagonistic.

Again, I think you have contributed very well to the comments in this deal, but I suggest that your reply to me was uncalled for.

But, it's all good mate. :)

  • Curios as to why fast charging (while nice to have) is important when you can take the charger with you? For a wall charger sure as you cant use that on the go, but a portable battery kind of seems redundant given its portable and all..

    • Cause it support 18W bidirectional charging

    • I think I can give you anexample of why you want something that can do QC 2.0 output.

You don't have to have the phone attached to the power bank as long as the one that do not support fast charging.
Fast charging charges the phone to a reasonable level quickly. So if you don't want to have the power bank connected to the phone for as long, having fast charging is good.

  • Curios as to why fast charging (while nice to have) is important when you can take the charger with you? For a wall charger sure as you cant use that on the go, but a portable battery kind of seems redundant given its portable and all..

Fast charging is important because you can charge this battery bank at the same time as charging another gadget, especially when travelling you want to be able to charge quickly if you have limited charging ports and times. For example travelling on a sleeper train in Europe, often the AC power is interrupted for extended periods especially in the eastern countries. Another example would be charging this whilst in a lounge where you have limited time.

    • Understand, I've traveled extensively around various continents (and planning to continuously do so) but If i was that concerned about power to keep my gadgets alive, why not carry around 2 power banks? On planes I'm finding they become more and more redundant as USB in-seat is becoming the norm even in cattle class. Sure the odd transit in a train/bus you might not be afforded the same luxuries. When I travel of late, im finding the use of portable power somewhat less

A side note, when travelling, sometimes its good to just rest and get some shut-eye instead of gorging on the net constantly. Believe me I know what you guys are thinking, and I do appreciate all the technical advances being made (though not sure all the extra heat helps the longevity and health of the cells) just when I travel for a holiday, im not sure being plugged in 24/7 amounts to much of a "holiday".

It's not about being connected constantly to surf the internet but we make extensive use of Google Docs and Maps for our plans and upload photos and some video constantly so there is no chance of any loss.

We carry around four to six power banks when we travel but sometimes you have them fail (last year in Europe our main 16,000mAh pack died). We use multiple 5,000mAh units in our rental car when we drive to power Mobius cameras that record all the time (three cameras - one rear, one forward and one adjustable) so when the car is off they run off battery power and record any movement. The previous year in Europe we kept blowing fuses because of a crappy Belkin car charger, luckily I had spare mini fuses with me but we still had to run on battery power for extended periods (needed to carry a full spare set of bulbs and fuses to drive in the Czech Republic). Last year I took two Anker multi port car chargers and had no problems.

We also have a GPS logger, dash cam with GPS, 4G hotspot (constantly on and in my backpack), two tablets, a notebook, camera and a few mobile phones to keep charged up.

During the day when walking we charge using the power banks, when we take sleeper trains there are issues with power often and we will already be low on power so we have to charge multiple products again often after having left a hotel at 8am arrived at the train in the evening and not checking into a hotel until late the next day means we rely on batteries for 36+ hours.

So yes having fast charging is very handy. Using a 6 port fast charger is a savior when you have power but it still takes time to charge everything back up so to me having the ability to charge faster is critical as it means less things to go wrong.

        • Yep understand but sometimes just need to unplug man. I can see some valid scenarios where a fast charging may benefit you but it just seems like the odd situation it will benefit you vs just using a regular power bank. Failures can occur on any device, if anything more likely to occur on something pumping out that much juice as heat will kill cells quicker.

Personally I've already purchased 2 from past deals (10k and 16k xiaomi) and struggling to justify another one given how little use these 2 are getting.

        • @BargainKen:
I have a desk full of them that rarely get use, I do use some in our cars now on an ongoing basis to power Mobius cameras to record all the time but generally I use them when we go away and mainly on our annual six week trip where they get used pretty much non stop. Like torches it seems they breed……

        • @Maverick-au:

So you got these down like eneloops? lol

        • @BargainKen:
I have the Eneloops as well!

I would have around 15 power banks from Xiaomi and Romoss.

          Don't even ask about torches…….

        • @Maverick-au: little bit obsessed? Lol

From what i remember the older one actually performs better….cant remember details.

        • I recommend the new one 10000mAh pro

  • Bought this one last week in China, about A$30.
