Why would I want to go to the zoo more than once a year?

    • You can go, then go again in 13-15 months. Then you won't have gone more than once a year. :)

    • Pretty sure Melbourne pass is much cheaper so if you have a friends adress….. And remember these passes entitle free entry to most major zoos in aust

    • Kids

  • Taronga zoo has reciprocal access to Perth, Melbourne and Adelaide Zoos. The membership rates are:

    Adelaide
    Adult $99.95
    Student/Concession $68.50
    Child (ages 4 - 14) $43.00

    Perth
Adult $84.00 (for 2 or more people joining, otherwise $95)
Child (4-15 years) $53.00 each (ditto, otherwise $56)

    Melbourne
    Adult $90.00
    Child (0-15 yrs) FREE
    Concession* $75.00
    Seniors $87.00

So if having kids, Melbourne is probably cheapest to join as kids membership is free.

However, they usually have conditions to stop Sydney people buying membership for Melbourne to get entry to Sydney. For example, some of Melbourne's conditions:

To receive reciprocal entry to selected interstate zoos, all Zoos Victoria members who live in Victoria or Tasmania
For Zoos Victoria members who live in NSW, SA, QLD, NT, WA and ACT, reciprocal entry rights to zoos in any of these states apply to adult members only

    • Edit: Yes, kids are charged at other zoos outside of Melbourne.

    Wow. $290 for a family.

    • You sure 'Wow' or was it 'OMG'

      • Taronga Zoo has always been pricey. My family has had membership before. But it keeps seeming to get pricier with no end in sight. The real killer for us is getting there. It's less <42km away but by public transport it's at least 2 hours each way and usually more. By car it can take just as long due to traffic. Either way getting there is added expense. 2 or 3 days at the zoo will wind up costing $350-$400
