Hard to beat that price. Good bargain. But I have a question. What's Smart about this sewing machine? Looks like it didn't have a microcontroller, no lcd screen, no usb connection, no computer control. The only thing smart about it is the rock bottom price

    • They mean 'smart' as in fashionable or stylish, but even that's obviously a matter of personal taste. Green doesn't do it for me.

Well if you happen to look at the image, the model is actually called "smarter" not smart, so spotlight got it wrong.

    • most computer controlled sewing machines under $1000 don't have USB …….. not much to upgrade …………..the only ones that do are for downloading patterns for embroidery …. yes blokes do have sewing machines …… by product of no longer wanting to pay someone $20 a go for fixing pockets, take up jeans, etc.

Has saved me $100's and I don't have to do the drop off pickup time waste routine..

Would be easy to get your money back in savings at this price.

Many people go for the simple mechanical version as they are ultra reliable ……. and no expensive repairs or micro controllers for displays that aren't supported after 7 years …. you don't use most of the stitches they add on computer machines if you are just fixing clothes at home.

  • Bought two. One for a friend. Can't go wrong for that price. :) Thanks OP

Bought 20, I have a big shed and I know a lot of children. I might start making some Nike gear.

      • wallets and bags are where the money is.

      • wrong machine, you need one that does embroidery so that you can embroider the Nike logo on your new clothing "collection".

Also with plus sizes uses too much material ….. and they refuse to pay more than the size 6,8,or 10 customers.

  • Myer is selling the Bother JS1400 for $99 RRP $249. Not sure which I should get because the 3 year warranty stands out for me much more. I just want to do basic sewing like fix tears and shorten lengths, nothing fancy.

      I wouldn't bother.

    • I've heard Brother and Juki sewing machines being used in commercial environments. I've never heard about this brand so not sure. Brother should be better I reckon.

      • This brandhas been around for decades, was one of the best years ago as long as the company hasn't gone broke and been resurrected by Chinese companies looking to cash in on a name should be fine

  • Just bought another for my sister. Thanks again :)

Would up vote you again if I could. Cheers

  • Must be junk if Spotlight is knocking $300 off to get rid of stock lol

Just bought one for $89 with a welcome coupon for my daughter. The lady in the department however strongly suggested Eliba 40 http://www.spotlightstores.com/sewing/sewing-equipment/sewin… which is very good machine and on special $299. I was tempted to buy however my wife stopped me. I would buy it if it was for my wife who already has one which I bought 20 years ago.

I suggest you check this elina 40 if you look for quality..from Taiwan.

    • Are sure it's not Elna?

      • Elina40 as shown on the link (photo). Sorry for the typo. Looks like Elna is the name of company and elina40 is the model.

  • Thanks OP. After some painstaking research, I bought one over some of the other competition out there. At a heavily discounted $100, it's got features that are competitive with some products twice the price, and apparently for a truly decent workhorse you're looking at least a $500+ machine anyway. This is a pretty entry-level beginner's type of machine from a reputable European brand but is decent for alterations, basic sewing, or until you decide you want something with more bells and whistles. This review is pretty helpful.

Is this one better than the Brother JS1400?

  • This makes a perfect valentines day present for that special lady

Voucher code seems to be generic, I got the same code when I signed up. Couldn't apply the code without signing up and being logged in however. Thanks, OP.

  • Is this better than Singer. My wife bought a Singer couple years back from Spotlight for $ 80 on special. That has been very good buy so far.

  • Many stores are out of stock and online store out as well.

  • Is this coming up as ~$100 for anyone else still?
Seems to up to $399 now and was hoping to grab this deal!

At the shop, the easter sale finished on the 29th March. So it's too late to get it now.

      • Thanks for checking that for me!
