Microsoft Surface Pro 3 - Type Cover $35 @ JB Hi-Fi

340

In store only JB HiFi's online store still shows $179 for the price. Didn't purchase since I'm an Apple guy but I might go back just to resell them. Have a great Easter.

+1 for sharing, but please don't buy them all to resell

      Please don't broden them

They still had about 15 when I was there. I decided reselling wasn't worth the time and effort.

Holy cow! Which JB HiFi OP? Would you be able to upload a photo of your receipt?

  • -2

Why is JB open on Easter?

    • Welcome to the world of retail

      • +1

        Nothing is open in QLD.

        Not even supermarkets.

        • Love and rockets is open

Thanks. Managed to nab the last 17 at my local JB.

    • Any chance you can tell me the bar code on these - want to check Amazon to see if I can match a product or if the US one is different.

    • How are you going to resell them? I checked on eBay and there are covers for around 80$ brand new in AUS. $35-40 margin per cover, hmmm

      • +2

I decided by the time you add ebay fees, paypal fees, dealing with Australia post and other people on ebay it wasn't worth it.

  • if its genuine its a bargain… its over $100 normally? but lol $179,99 at JB (what bastards they are)

does it say something about the life of this model, what with Pro 4 out and Pro 5 coming?

  • +1

Obviously on sale because the SP4 cover is better and also fits the SP3 so they're clearing these

    • +1

      This.

It's just on clearance. The SP4 covers are MUCH better, and they also fit the Surface Pro 3, so there's really no use in the SP3 covers now, except if you don't have a cover already and have a SP3 (I suspect all SP3 users would have a SP3 cover already, and if not, they would probably get the SP4 cover).
So essentially, these covers would only be bought by those who have just bought an SP3 and want a cheap cover (not wanting to pay $150+ for the SP4 cover), or those with SP3 covers that have broken.

      • Why is the SP4 cover better?

        • +1

          Larger, better trackpad.
Keyboard actually looks like an actual keyboard, because the buttons are nicer to press and they are more spaced out.

They are the main reasons, but those small changes just make a huge difference in my opinion.
$100+ difference? Depends on how much you like the feel of the new keyboard and how much you use it (and a mouse and therefore the trackpad).

        • @realsniper09:

As I hate the original cover I now use BT keyboard and mouse - if the SP4 cover has improved I might be able to upgrade and lose the accessories.

      • I have the SP3 and SP3 cover, even if the SP4 cover is better I can't justify paying $200 for it.

        • hear hear

These are $44 are Harvey Norman also:
    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/microsoft-surface-pro-3-type-…

Apparently the Surface Pro 4 cover is better due to glass v plastic trackpad and improved keyboard.

    • I tried Surface Pro 4 cover out, it did feel better, but I personally thought the difference isn't worth extra $100.
That said, I personally found SP3 type cover to be adequate enough in the first place. It works fine and it's not horrendously bad for me at least.

  • Mate has the SP4 keyboard and I've banged away on it and still like the SP3 one better, but maybe it's just me used to the old kb.

Is this at all JB? I might have a look tomorrow, thanks OP.

I'm from Townsville, Qld and they have them there. I brought one from willows shopping centre and got a red one. 3 purple left. Judging from comments I'd say its all jbhifi stores

      • +1

Thanks just picked one up as a spare for when our current one gives up the ghost…

  • Call me crazy but i would still spend even $150 more for the surface pro 4 keyboard than the 3. Although, it's a decent price

    • +1

They really should just come bundled with the Surface in my opinion.

      • Yeah, that's my biggest complain about the surface

  • Thanks 3 left at Hornsby only purple or red left.

  • I went to JBHifi in Centro bankstown They had the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 - Type Cover on display.I went to the counter and the lady scanned it but said it was $179.I then asked the manager about it but he said the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 - Type Cover that was selling for $35 isnt in stock ? So mm abit confused since the type cover i asked the lady to scan was the type cover for the MS Surface Pro 3. There were 3 diff colours for the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 - Type Cover i picked up , black , blue and red.

  • Would the MS Pro 3 Type Cover work on MS Surfce Pro 4 ?
May consider to buy one as spare at $35 if it works on MS Surface Pro 4.

    • theres no reason why it shouldn't

      • Thanks. Is this verified or just a good assumption ? Strange that I'm unable to find the answer from Dr Google. Lots of info on Pro 4 Type Cover being backwards compatible with the Surface Pro 3. All the reviews are heavily promoting the Pro 4 Type Cover.

        • bit of both? I used to be able to use my SP3 cover on my surface RT, surely Microsoft makes everything backwards compatible… even though the size and stuff was different

    • Hey hey! It sure does work. I'm typing on one right now.

I've got a second hand black one which I'm looking to sell if you missed out on this deal and are still shopping for one.

      • +1

Thanks for sharing. Just called JB and there are still limited stock available. Would likely drop by today to pick up. Thanks for your offer.

        • Best of luck!

Unfortunately all the JBs in Brisbane City had no stock.

        • Managed to get black SPro 3 cover at JB Gateway, WA. There are still 1 black and 4-5 purple ones there.

  • When I see some of the laptops posted on OzBargain, I really regret getting my SP3…

    • What issues are you having with it? I've only just purchased an SP4 and so far it's going strong.

      • No "issues"… Just when you see the specs on laptops that go on sale here, your posting an awful lot for the surfaces form factor. Biggest gripe though, a user replaceable msata card wouldn't be that hard to implement.

        • *paying an awful lot for form factor. Sorry

  • Two red and two black at Cairns Central, no sign but scan at $35.

  • Got the last one at eastgarden which is black.

Together with the sp4 m3 i bought this morning my mission is over
