$5 Entry to Powerhouse Museum (SYD) + $10 Paddy's Market Voucher + More $5 Paddy's Vouchers

1300

Okay, so I was going to Powerhouse Museum anyway and saw the post that was taken down yesterday because it required an unobtainable original voucher??? I had to pass by Paddy's from Central station, so I decided to investigate. The info desk at Market City upstairs had no idea, so I went down the escalators, turned left and entered Paddy's. There was an Paddy's info desk to the right of the entrance where they were signing people up for membership to Paddy's, and they confirmed the deal.

So the steps needed to get all of the above:

  1. Sign up to Friends of Paddy's at https://paddys.nubonus.com.au/content.php

  2. Confirm your e-mail and receive another e-mail with a barcode.

  3. Bring barcode on phone or printout to the Paddy's Market office located within the market area during open hours, where they will present you with a $10 Paddy's voucher good for six months. I just checked my e-mail, and it looks like there was the possibility of getting more $5 voucher on the spot but I missed it because I was in a hurry to go to the Museum.

  4. In front of the office counter, there is a stack of the $5 powerhouse admission voucher expiring on 31 March 2016. Grab as many as you need. Saw stacks more behind the counter glass wall.

  5. Redeem for admission (Not including the DC Comics(TM) special LEGO(TM) exhibition) at Powerhouse museum, where they will say that they have a reciprocal agreement with Paddy's and give you another $5 Paddy's voucher per adult $5 admission (Kids under 16 are free).

  6. Go shopping when done with the Museum, or whenever within the six months expiry.

All steps can be done there if you have internet connection on your phone. If you can't be bothered to get the Paddy's vouchers, just walk to the Paddy's Office (about 300m from the Powerhouse) during their open hours and grab the Powerhouse vouchers. So the Powerhouse original vouchers are certainly accessible.

Had a bit of drama at the Powerhouse where they initially insisted that it was a $5 OFF voucher instead of $5 Admission. My insistence that it was not a $5 discount feel on deaf ears, so I initially paid $10 per adult to enter, took a photo of the voucher, kept the receipt, and but told them to expect a call from Fair Trading. Apparently the counter staff decided to check with a manager and tracked my party down half an hour later in the Museum with an apology and a full refund. Turns out little ol merciless me was the first ever patron to use this particular voucher, and even the manager was not aware of such a steep discount being available until he read the voucher.

Before anyone asks, Paddy's T&C #9 includes no stacking and no re-use of vouchers, and I didn't have time to use them yet, so can't comment:

      • +4

Yeah, unlike the museum, Paddy's markets specifically guarantees brothers, sisters, mummies and daddies that they haven't actually visited "markets" as such until they've attended their own fine establishment.

$10 saving for every adult in your group…

I was on location with nothing to do while the ladies were hunting for "treasure"(ie. shopping) in Market City outlets upstairs…

As I mentioned, it's only a ten minutes return walk to the Paddy's office from Powerhouse, if you don't want the Paddy's vouchers skip all other steps…

Powerhouse staff should now be aware of the deal, so no more dramas…

Investigating whether the deal exist took 15 minutes. Less time than posting this deal…

But I've definitely benefited much much more in time and money saved from OzB posts…

No offense, but would OzB exist if everybody's time is too valuable to look for deals and post them?

Last but not least is the thrill of the hunt…

If you attend museums regularly it may be worth considering a membership- prices at powerhouse are very good ($100/60 for families/family concession) and include free entry to other museums around Australia including questacon and science works. Powerhouse also has a members lounge with free tea, coffee, cordial and biscuits. Its a very nice place to relax with old pac man and frogger type video games for the kids to play.

    • I bought a museum Victoria pass when my kids were little (we live in Nsw) it's $79 now for a family. Used to visit the powerhouse, questacon and the Wollongong science centre pretty often . It was the cheapest membership at the time for our family. Very well worth it but the free tea and coffee and biscuits could be worth a small fortune as a bonus with the powerhouse option.

    • Thanks for the info! I never knew about the lounge! I've been a member for a few years….

  • Paddys Haymarket closed today according to website.
    I didn't get a barcode in my emails :(

    • The barcode is available from the website after you login and look at the offers.

      • Thanks, I've worked it out now - you have to click on the voucher to activate it which reveals the barcode.

Sadly, Paddy's was closed on Monday and Tuesday so I didn't get a chance to pick up tickets for the Powerhouse Museum.
From the issues the OP had I don't imagine it's an offer that's likely to re-occur.

  • Thanks for such a detailed post.
