        • Thank you, will give that a go

    • I got everything same as you but $85p/m, should I contact them and re-negotiate? How did you manage to negotiate this price, mind to share? Thanks.

      • I just called up the retention team and asked for their best deal. That is what she offered me. I just made sure to be very friendly and polite.

        • Really, are you existing customer? I am a new customer. I'll give them a call tomorrow to ask the best deal. Also, do you mind to PM me your phone number or name? I just use that to tell them that a friend of mine can get this deal, so if they can match the deal. Thanks.

        • @tryonthis:

ok thanks so much for the information.

TPG offer unlimited for $110/month at 100mbps.
    Telstra sucks.

    • +1

Please give advice on how Telstra sucks?

      • +1

The time it took me to sign up and be absolutely stuffed around with some of my connections, other providers were much more efficient. Plus tpg is unlimited. All the telstra devices are not worth it, all chinese junk.

        • +4

Always heard great things about telstra till i tried to sign up…

four months worth of screwing around for a congested service….

          Maybe I was just unlucky…..

    • +1

Not everyone can get NBN though. This is a great deal for people that only have either cable or ADSL available

    • -1

TPG offer unlimited 100mbps for $100, not $110.
Also, while I agree that this is not a good deal, it is not a valid reason to neg.

    • Prob only 100mbit and got gigabit lol

  • +7

Fail to see why 30mb/1mb is a bargain , as it's more expensive then Optus cable, which is 30mb/2mb and given the congestion issues this is still not cheaper than internet provision from just about any ADSL2+ provider.

Yes, it's a discount on Telstras normal cable price, but that doesn't change the fact it has the slowest cable upload speeds out there!

    Cable (base plan)

    Up to 30Mbps

    Up to 1Mbps

      Plus:
For new Telstra home broadband customers a $59 activation fee
applies to get you up and running and a self-install home network
      gateway is $144.
If you take up a Casual Plan, an additional $120 upfront Casual Plan
      Fee will apply.
If you’re a Casual Plan customer or an existing Telstra home
broadband customer and would like a new modem you can take up
a Home Network Gateway for an additional charge.
Our Home Network Gateways are configured to work only with a
Telstra broadband service. If you choose a professional installation
      a $240 charge also applies.
A $12 delivery fee applies if you have your modem and/or self install
      kit delivered.

    • Yep, Optus is cheaper.

    • +9

You fail to see that not everyone can get cable or unlimited. For us regional customers who rely on a Telstra phone line, this deal is not bad at all

    • -1

Terrible deal, insane contract length, can have better service cheaper with Optus at least, if not others too.

  • Is this deal just cable or includes ADSL as well ?

    • Includes ADSL, but not worth it for ADSL.

      • Why so ?

        • You get much better speeds/reliability/upgradability with cable. With ADSL you have much better offers elsewhere ($60-$80/mth). (and to get cable you HAVE TO sign up to either telstra or optus, but ADSL you have hundreds if not thousands of providers that are cheaper than the two mentioned)

        • @clse945111: I cant get cable at my current place. Currently paying 100 to iinet for 300GB.

With the ADSL plan do I need to get turbo plan or speed boost to get the full ADSL speed.. (had to do this with IInet)

        • +2

@ra303: Not with Telstra. ADSL2+ theoretical max speed is only about 20-24mbps I don't see how a speed boost can make it faster lol.
For cable the speedboost is boosting from 30mbps to 100mbps, you'd see why ADSL doesn't/can't have speedboost applied on.

Just a suggestion, if you can only get ADSL then just go with a provider like TPG or Clubtelco etc, ADSL is not worth throwing too much money on.

        • @clse945111: Sweeping comments like these are nice and all, but how about backing up your claims?

For example, I am on ADSL. Can't get cable from either Telstra/Optus. I used to be with Internode, and funnily enough at the time Internode were priced virtually the same as Telstra. I didn't consider TPG or other smaller resellers as I value quality of service/network. So I made the move to Telstra and all has been fine.

I now see this 1000gb deal from Telstra and have compared it to iiNet since they bought out Internode. To get 1000gb from iiNet including line rental, I need to pay $119.90 per month! Furthermore, they want to charge an additional $20 for included local/mobile calls! Lastly, with Telstra you get 3 free data top ups per year which iiNet doesn't offer.

So in summary, using iiNet as a quality provider comparison, I need to pay $139.90 to get the same benefits as this $99 Telstra bundle.

In my eyes, this looks like a very good offer for ADSL users.

        • @atlas:

Optus is unlimited data, unlimited calls (even international to some countries) and Fetch TV for $95pm:

          http://www.optus.com.au/shop/broadband/home-broadband/plans

TPG is $69.95 for unlimited data, unlimited calls ($59.95 + $10 Oz Talk bundle):

          https://www.tpg.com.au/products_services/home-phone-bundle

        • +3

          @atlas:

how about backing up your claims?

What exactly did I claim? $99 is expensive for ADSL?
Well, it absolutely is. Why do people on ADSL have to pay the same price as cable and NBN? Lower speeds, worst reliability and highest ping but paying the same price, you tell me, is that fair?

I didn't consider TPG or other smaller resellers as I value quality of service/network.

Now that's not my problem, is it?
Quality isn't always determined by price, I really hope you know this.

Now you're just saying iiNet is expensive and therefore Telstra is cheap, the truth is both are expensive for ADSL and not considering cheaper providers because you "think" they don't deliver quality service/network is entirely your problem.
Optus, TPG, Dodo, Exetel are all cheaper than iiNet and Telstra while most likely delivering the same ADSL quality as your "quality providers".

  • -7

As much as you want to neg my opinion the price of this is astronomical. Not worth it

    • +1

I'm sure you know their circumstances better than they do as to whether this is the best deal for them.

  • -6

Uh.. How's this a bargain if it's not nbn..

    • It's applicable to NBN

      • Well if it tier 2 speed, then I'll take it back..

  • -4

Plus it's 24 months contract.. Crazy.. You probably get nbn before contract expires..

    • Not where I live! This is actually a pretty good deal for me. I can only get ADSL2 with Telstra, ADSL1 with anyone else. So I'm basically stuck on Telstra if I want decent speed.

  • Why is everyone negatively voting on this deal?

    • optus is cheaper

this is only good if you cant get optus

    • Because it is not a deal, its only a carrot hanging offer. TPG and other providers are better priced.

    • +26

Because OzBargain has a fair proportion of simpletons who labour under the misapprehension that just because THEY can get Optus/Dodo/TPG, that the rest of the population can do so as well…sadly, irrespective of evidence to the contrary, they are also too arrogant to accept that this belief is wrong!

      • Not to mention on Telstra NBN I now get a 3ms ping, compared to a cheaper provider at the same house and same nbn I was getting around 40ms. I won't even get into the peak time congestion on the cheaper providers, the extra $30 a month is money well spent for me personally.

Telstra is just a higher quality service.

    • +1

Because successive governments have screwed us over!! Don't take it personally.;)

    • Well, 5 in 158 is hardly "everyone" ;)

  • Is there a way/service that provides higher upload speeds.
max I can see on cable plans is 2Mbps up.

10Mbps Down, 200Gb data works for me, but need faster than 2Mbps upload. (Working from home, photo/video backup).
No NBN in my area and not willing to pay more than $100/month.

  • +1

I switched from Telstra Cable to Optus Cable a few months ago (both on the 100 mbit plan).

The optus one is cheaper, unlimited and marginally faster (speedtest give me ~110 mbps vs Telstra ~95 mbps)

    • -1

in my area during peak times optus only 3.5mbs had no choice had to go telstra got above package and speed pack for $109 about back in February.

  • We just signed up as we're sick of 6mbps ADSL and cable is available at our address.

The thing I'm having trouble understanding is the fact we live in a very old house with no cable (HFC) port installed - so does that mean we'll be slogged the $240 professional setup or what? Happy to pay it. I just want to know, as it's not very clear.

    • The online Telstra folks should be able to help out and let you know if there will be a cost involved. If you go to the deal link, an online chat window should pop up.. they're usually pretty helpful, although the copy and paste responses can be quite annoying sometimes..

      Good luck

      • +1

Yeah, I struggled through broken English - but the person thinks the $240 will apply on first bill. Bugger.

        • I was chatting to them yesterday (online chat), and they were willing to waive the $240 installation fee. I have the cable in the street just not to the building so would need the cable put in, hence the 'professional installation'

  • +1

Good to know, but Telstra has a lot to catch-up with my unlimited $90 Optus (local calls + international calls + fetch tv )!

  • I'm curious, can you run the Telstra hardware in bridge mode and terminate the layer 3 on your own router?

  • -2

    1TB what a joke.

I do 5x that amount per month without even breaking a sweat.

    http://i.imgur.com/jPE7vPD.png

Not to mention 24 month contract Ugh, rather month to month at least if something better comes along you can change providers easily.

    • Yeah, but aren't you running some sort of server farm? IIRC you reported several times in HDD threads that you were buying bulk HDDs to populate it at one point??

That's gotta imply more than the average home usage…or have I misread the situation???

    • Are you with TPG?

      • -4

        lol no.

Devoted (which is now NuSkope reseller of AAPT)

Telstra is the sole reason why we have low quotas like we do, and why startup ISP's often fail because of the skyhigh backhaul costs directly from telstra.

    • wow you serious?
I'm not going to ask what you do/did but WOW

How much did you download with the free Telstra day?

      • -3

Nothing, i have faster internet then 4g.

        • -3

Oh look here come the haters with their neg votes. Just because you dont have FTTP doesnt mean you can just hate on those who do have it.

        • +2

@Copie: Maybe the neg votes have less to do with your FTTP and more to do with your superior, arrogant attitude.

        • @Copie: Maybe because you're being a total dick. There's an "L" on your forehead.

        • -1

          @Reality:

Dont care, got fiber NBN, which is unlimited, and not with failstra.

And have a life as well obviously given you have so many posts in a short timeframe, you need to get outside more.

        • @Copie: Truck cabin fumes definitely getting to your small brain. Stop being a dick around here.

  • +2

Just recontracted with this Deal + SpeedBoost Free ($20) along with the new mode & Roku for $99 a month. Better than the $165 I used to pay.

I believe this a great deal for people who play games online or use anything that requires connecting to an International node. I get about 140ms to my game server in Japan, compared to those i know on Optus getting about 200+ ms.
I don't know why people are comparing TPG to Telstra. I'm just paying for solid lowest latency with little to no issues and when an issues arises, support is always contactable.

This is the best I could get, for those of us on HFC on 120Mb/s. Most of us won't have NBN, so this is our best option.

    • +1

how do you do that? I'm paying $119 for 1TB bundle with no speedboost, i would love to get speedboost free for $99 a month.

    • Is Roku the Telstra box or is it something else.?

    • I thought speed boost was only $10 anyway.

    • How did you do that!

      • +1

I think they bumped up the cost of speed boost, anyway you can negotiate deals via live chat>billing enquires > disconnection request.
There's a whole thread on whirlpool for best deals for Cable.
        Seen some pretty amazing deals.
Start the conversation off with "What can Telstra offer me if I sign up or recontract, apart from what's on display."
Can pretty much use all the neg arguments in this thread e.g Optus keeps sending me mail with unlimited cable for $90, I feel bad paying "whatever you're paying". Just ask them if they could sweeten the deal with speed boost.

        http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2429582

You might also be able to go through certain reseller to get a sweeter deal too like free 3 months Foxtel iq platinum

Edit yes the box is a Roku with Telstra branding but still has Roku label on it and powered by Roku.

    • +1

How do you get the best latency. Telstra now is giving me poor latency, with bad speeds to boot. Claims national outage for a month, wont be fixed until 14th april.

      • If it's a persisting issue, you could report it to Telstra, so they can send out a tech to check the quality of your lines. Sometimes they do corroded and what not, which leads to a whole host of issues.

  • -1

Why, when iinet is 1TB for $70/month?

Latency? Hah. Cant be that much worse.

  • My TPG internet is unlimited and only costs $59.95 per month.

My Telstra mobile gives me all of this:
    Calls to standard fixed lines
National calls to standard fixed lines
    Calls to standard Australian mobiles
    Telstra Air

I don't need any of this. Because it is unlimited:
    Data top ups

All this stuff sounds like junk:
    Telstra Broadband Protect
    Telstra Gateway Modem
    Telstra TV

The two services combined cost me less than this deal.

    • Seems like you need some chill tbh, certain people have access to HFC from Telstra which makes this deal worth it. If everyone had NBN then of course, people would have more options, but the large majority don't. I would rather speeds hovering around 120Mb/s than some unpredictable ADSL2+ Internet where you're limited by distance from the node and only a measly 24Mb/s if you're close enough.

      • No chill sorry.

This deal only includes crippled speeds for cable. You need to pay more again for your 120Mb/s

If everyone had NBN then of course, people would have more options, but the large majority don't

Well lucky our great government has promised everyone will have NBN by the end of the year.

The Coalition’s plan to transform the NBN will see:
        · Download speeds of between 25 and 100 megabits per second by the end of 2016 and 50 to 100 megabits per second by 2019.

        source: https://www.liberal.org.au/fast-affordable-sooner-coalitions…

I think I read somewhere that they have finally managed to even get power to a node somewhere.

        • +1

I think you're following the wrong politicians, I mean the Prime Minister when he was in charge of all this planning.

          https://www.facebook.com/JasonClareMP/videos/485358085005379…

The date has been pushed to 2020 and there's also new technology being researched by NBN Co, which is cheaper & more effective, but Turnbull won't acknowledge it or make the change with the upcoming election coming up, because that means he would've wasted everyone's money for technology that's not up to date and he won't be able to deliver it on time.

    • This deal not being the best deal for YOU or a rip off in your circumstances is NOT a reason to neg. It doesn't apply to me as well which is why I haven't voted per the guidelines. Other people clearly see it as a bargain for them so please revoke your illegitimate vote.

  • +7

Seems some people just can't get it in their heads that not everyone has access to TPG and the like. I'm "off-net" and this is a very good deal for someone in my situation.

    • -1

Sorry but not everyone can get cable either. Such as myself.

So that is the only occasion where this could be a deal but no telstra artificially limit the cable speed and want to charge extra for speed boost….So NO DEAL.

      • +1

I don't know what you're talking about. I can't get cable either. It's ADSL or nothing. You find me, or any other off-net regional customer a better way to get high usage (1000GB+) with basically unlimited home phone (barring international calls), included TV box (whether or not it's of any use is another matter) and included modem/router for less than $99 a month and I'll sign up straight away.

You're only thinking of your own situation. If you can get TPG unlimited for $59.95, AWESOME! I can't, so banging on about it doesn't help. StewBalls comment above sums it up perfectly.

        • -7

          any other off-net regional customer

You have made a lifestyle choice. That is great, but obviously everything costs more.

You're only thinking of your own situation.

The majority of the Australian population lives in metro areas and hence is in a similar situation to myself…Stuck with an entirely unsatisfactory broadband and telephone network overall (since around 1996 if I recall) but several options (price-points) available.

        • +7

          @chill:

Not really. I live 50km South East of Melbourne, not exactly way out in the country. I was born here, grew up here, work here. At any rate, there would be plenty of people this deal would be favourable for. Negging the deal and carrying on about what a great deal you have, when other people have no choice, is misleading and unhelpful. Is this deal for everybody? No. But it is a good deal for many of us.

It'd be like me negging a deal for free tampons because I don't need them.
          :)

        • +1

          @wisepage:

I live 30km's north west of Melbourne CBD (a half hour drive into the city), and I'm in exactly the same position as wisepage. No cable, and I can only get ADSL2+ through Telstra (if I choose TPG etc, I can only get ASDS1 speeds).

For me this is a great deal.

        • -4

          @wisepage:

But it is a good deal for many of us.

No its not. You are being ripped off.

I was born here, grew up here, work here.

So you have possibly paid some taxes then and therefore deserve appropriately priced infrastructure.

It'd be like me negging a deal for free tampons because I don't need them.
          :)

          Totally different.

No one is being ripped off.

In fact I can guarantee that many males members of this site would order some. (Well lots under different emails and fake names)

    • +2

Seems some people just can't get it in their heads that not everyone has access to TPG and the like. I'm "off-net" and this is a very good deal for someone in my situation.

I think you are having too much faith in the general public

off-net, on-net, cable, NBN, ADSL, HFC etc will just confuse them, for most of them it is the "interweb" to download their moviez and pornz :)

  • +1

The voting guidelines need revising or possibly, although I don't agree, the OP needs to alter the post to include something about it being best for regional customers.

Although it is agreed that the price is a deal for one person, it's perfectly acceptable for another who has more options available to them to neg the deal.

I'm going to neg the hell out of the grocery deals from now on as there are always cheaper options in other stores for many items.

  • At the base level speed you won't even be able to download the full quota lllllllllawl.

  • After 2 hrs on the phone I managed to change my plan from 1tb $115 a month to $99 a month what a joke of customer service telstra give

  • +1

I tried using multiple channels (live chat, telephone, in store) and after 2 hours I managed to move from the M cable bundle ($89 400GB) to this bundle ($99 1000GB) but my 24 month contract reset. Tips for those wanting to try is use live chat and ask for disconnections/retentions team - they seem to have far more power and flexible in making a deal

I was previously with iiNet ADSL2 and can say I am very glad I made the move - both speed (have 4 connections streaming simultaneously with no problem now) and service wise

Btw - I don't see the mention of $15 Bigpond Movies credit and 6 month free Presto anywhere so its a plus if you value them

  • +1

Just walked into Telstra Shop and the guy recontracted me for $99 per month rather than the $119 I'm currently paying.
