I wonder what their new name will be after this round of bankruptcy… Remember both the bears and Fitzroy went bankrupt. Bears in the 80's and royboys in the 90's…
Two hopeless bankrupt teams get merged and and extra 10% on the salary cap…. Then they miraculously win 3 grand finals….wow…who would have thought that??????
Take away the 10% and all the handouts and all of a sudden they are like "Fitzroy and bears of old…we'll win the wooden spoon"

    • Come on matey….it's great to see the bears get thumped each game. I can't wait till coliingwood comes to town and there is an angry home crowd (like in the 90's)…now that the bears are losing, they have no supporters innthe stands. So great to see them at the bottom where they belong. Once they lost their extra 10% on the salary cap…they are hopelessly. Let's hope they go the way of Fitzroy and are bankrupt soon.

        Lol.

They need another Leigh Matthews so tickets can be given away once again.

          @jovialjosie2002:

It's the AFL way. Keep pumping money into hopeless teams until they have enough to buy some marquee players. It worked for the Swans so they are thinking why can't it work for other other QLD and NSW teams…

Pity about the VIC teams like the D's. The same AFL principle doesn't apply to Victoria :P

        • @abc:
It will be interesting to see how many they get at this game on the weekend. I was shocked to see the members almost empty last year. I reckon after last year's hepeless performance of the bears (especially at home) ….many people will be throwing in their memberships.

    • Even after giving away 3,000 tickets….they only got 18,021 to the game.

this is from the afl website ….Official crowd: 18, 021 at the Gabba

Looks like they are going to be bankrupt soon. That was the numbers fitzroy were getting to their home games in 1996. The gabba is a big (money) ground and the gabba trust are charging the bears a fortune to play there.

Best part is… You doughnut have to pay for the tickets!

    • I see what you did there!!

They are so desperate to fill the seats, they need to give away the tickets for free and hope that people will buy a pie or two at the game….this club has always been mismanaged…I know a bloke who played innthe original bears team in the first season….he always regretted not signing with stkilda….this club treats its supporters players and opposing club like manure…. For years they wouldn't even play the other teams club song after the game….I don't even know if they do it NOW

  • Matches their Wins column.
I bet Christensen will be ducking down for one.

I hope North gives them a jolly r*gering on Saturday.
The last time I went to a north vs bears game at the gabba there were more North fans than Carrara koala supporters. Which, is amazing, since North has the smallest supporter base of any vic team.
Oh well, I guess after the bears lost their 2 extra players on the field (after getting the 10% extra salary) taken away they cant buy a win!!!!
Now the bears or Carrara koalas (or whatever there name will be changed too soon)…have no supporters…such a shamento see the.members section empty….. Not

lol are you predicting a Bears/Lions/Suns merger? Strange combination that!

      • The sun's have their act together…why would they merge with the bears?????

  • I really must go and watch an AFL game. Can anyone advise on where is the best place to be seated while watching a game at The Gabba??

Don't say 'at a table in the German Club, with a pork knuckle and a pint of Kostritzer'!

Some people like the middle of the ground, they say they can see everything from the middle. Personally I love it behind the goals….(directly behind, not in the pocket)…when you are behind the goals you get to see the ball come into the goals. You get to see how close they hit or miss. I think everyone will agree that the worst place is when you are NOT directly behind the goals or NOT in the middle.
So, in summary, if the field is a clock you want to be 12 o'clock or 6 o'clock….or 9 o'clock or 3 o'clock.

The worst spots are 1,2,4,5,7,8,10,11 o'clock
Having said that, I grew up in a country town, the grand stand was at 3 o'clock, the scoreboard at 7 o'clock an undercover area at 9 o'clock and the pie shop at 2 o'clock.
The only seats filled were at 3,6,9 and 12 o'clock… The goals ofcourse at 6 and 12.
People normally build the scoreboard and pie shops in an area that doesn't have people wanting to watch the game. Oh…and the only toilets were at 1 o'clock.

  • Damn, I was planning on going to this match on Saturday! So shattered I missed it :( :(

I don't suppose anybody picked up a couple of extra tickets they don't need? ;)
