Vietnam Airways Kuala Lumpur to London One Way (via Hanoi) $390

330

I just booked KL to London at $390 (may be even cheaper Hanoi direct to London). This is on a dreamliner for the hanoi-london portion and includes meals (dinner). Price for me shows in Malaysian Ringit but already shows on my ING Visa debit for $390. Selected dates avail between april 26 and may 25. May wish to combine with airasia/scoot to secure europe for less than $700. Enjoy!

god damn it, i checked every day for over a month for a good deal one way to london departing 24th may and couldn't find much (other than a shitty a340 service with philippines air). booked singapore airlines for $1089. then 2 days later malaysia airlines had a sale for $799. and now a week later this (could easily get a one way to KL for cheap).

this is an excellent deal, thanks for sharing but also now im sad.

At least you're flying SQ, they're my favourite airline to fly with.

I haven't flown with them before, and there were slightly cheaper options like China Southern or Etihad, but I've heard great things about SQ and the Sydney-Singapore leg departs in the afternoon on the newly refit 777, and then there's a short layover and onto the A380 where I should get a decent sleep and wake up close to London. And the food looks quite decent so although I didn't get a bargain, at least I'll have a comfortable journey :)

love the SQ 777-300ER's would fly them over the A380

        • @zacsg1: yeah was hoping to link onto the 777 for the london leg but would have had to have a longer layover. I got a decent seat upstairs on the 380 so should be ok. it's my first time flying with a real carrier since i was a kid, i've had probably 2 dozen or more flights to/around asia on airasia/scoot/jetstar so will be nice to see what a real carrier is like.

@rancho: Yep they are the only airline i have been on out side of Australia and that was about 6 years ago now, they where great. Have a nice flight/holiday

        • Even their older aeroplanes are still great, you've made the right choice. I definitely prefer them over Etihad (though I've only flown EY return to the UK once). The only other airline that I 'might' rate higher up is Air NZ, but its a tough call either way.

One way to London $700 is not a bargain imo plus consider the layovers, change of airlines, terminals etc

    • Yep, just pretend you're a student and buy one with STA for $499 MEL-LON with Royal Brunei.

  • everyone different circumstances. works well for me to head off to explore malaysian borneo then spend time in europe. Obviously not as appealing for corporate warrior….

    • I did a motorbike trip around Sabah last year. I hope you like palm plantations…

  • freak taxes are not cheap when travelling to London that's for sure.

  • The only downside is you have to go to KL.

  • KL is definitely low on my list but will just sit in airport killing time searching ozbargain. any tips for borneo? at the moment I'm thinking - climb mt kinabalu, check out turtle research centre on island near kuching, few days in national park near kuching, check out traditional longhouse (couchsurfing booked) and 3 days in jungle near sandakan (have 3 weeks all up). wanted to go diving off Sipadan but smarttraveller.gov.au makes it sound awfully dangerous

    • Just make sure you have the necessary vaccinations and emergency medicine. Watch your belongings, don't do anything stupid or that wouldn't be covered by travel insurance, and enjoy

    • The diving around Semporna is fabulous. I think the dangers are over rated but you need to satisfy yourself.

      Check out Scuba Junkie: http://www.scuba-junkie.com
The budget trip is stay in Semporna for AUD$10 a night and go on all day snorkelling trips (lunch equipment included) to awesome reefs like Mataking and Pom Pom for US$40 or $20 for children. Otherwise Scuba dive on Mabul. You do need to book ahead to stay on Mabul and go diving at Sipidan. It is popular and usually full. Diving was highlight of our trip to Borneo. I say it again … avoid disappointment … make sure you book ahead to stay on Mabul.

    • Did my OW on Mabul Island and then indulged in a Sipidan trip staying on Kapalai. Totally worth it and safe. Most dangerous things were the dirty water around Mabul and the Chinese tourists on Kapalai. Semporna is a total hole.

  • Don't worry about smarttraveller warnings. Been a few times, never any hassles. Fly from KL to Tawau, bus it from there to Semporna about 2 hours, not much of a scenic town but the best place to stay for Sipadan diving. Cheap accommodation, food and diving packages to be found at many places(try Scuba Junkies). Awesome diving there for sure.

  • Don't forget you can use optiontown for a cheap business class upgrade with Vietnam air!! We used to on a flight to Tokyo via Saigon and it was ace :)

    • After seeing this comment I have gone and done a bit of research on Optiontown.

How much did the business class upgrade cost in the end?

      • Hmmm it was a few years back now I think it was about an extra 300 per person per leg. When u give it ur flight number it will tell you how Much it is. Also check the plane your on has nice business class seats ;)
