      Yeah it is :)

  • on the website it says Compatible Model: Nexus 7 but should assume it to be compatible with any micro usb charging device? HTC One M8 to be precise.

    • AFAIK any usb device will just pull what it needs, it's a standard thing. I don't believe there should be any reason this shouldn't work for any micro-USB device.

Just that original asking price meant no one would buy it over say a generic charger!

      • Yeah true. But for some reason, since Marshmallow update, my phone does not recognize a Samsung car charger. I will buy it anyways.

      • Not quite true, typically devices will pull what they want up to 1A, that's the standard part. Anything above, the charger must "tell" the device that they can go over, otherwise they will limit it at 1A. I know Apple chargers have their own method of communicating this, but I am not sure how many different implementations are in the Android world.

Then we have the quick charge 1, quick charge 2, adaptive fast charging, and what not for even faster charging.

Its not as straight forward any more.

It's essentially the same with other chargers. They all go by different names like VoltIQ, PowerPort+, Power3S and Intelligent Charging.

        • @Clear:

But not all are compatible with one another.

        • @garratt torlesse: The ones I listed are compatiable with each other and found in popular chargers.

Sort of. Garatt was saying chargers tell the device how much current they can supply, which is true.

The names you mention refer to the technology that was created because of that. They all use a USB charger emulator IC which detects the device you plug in (Apple, Android, etc) and configures the data pins accordingly so the device can draw max current. The MAX14632 is an example of such an IC.

So you're both talking about the same end result, but through different approaches.

This Asus charger, along with most stock/OEM chargers, do not have the USB emulator VoltIQ/Power3S etc technology as they only have to conform to one standard, in this case USB BC 1.2 as it can put out more than 1.5A. So it will only charge at full speed with devices that follow that standard, which is the majority of the Android world, fortunately.

  • Tronsmart 5 port charger is a better deal

    • Link it? Or is it a fake dodgey one?

    • Don't see any deals for a Tronsmart AC charger.

If you need more than 1 port, the Tronsmart is a better deal. If you just need one port (e.g. one phone charging next to your bed or at your work desk), this is an excellent deal. It sticks directly into a socket - no fig 8 cable needed like 4/5 port chargers.

  • It looks like the Asus AD835M1 charger. If so, the data pins are shorted so it will be detected as a DCP USB port capable of supplying at least 1.5A. That means it will fast-charge any device that follows the USB battery charging specs.

I bought it last week, and it was the Asus AD835M1 charger made by PI Electronics.

Good charger, thanks Spackbace. That's one less charger which I need to use with a travel adapter.

Looks to be the Asus Nexus 7 2012 charger as the 2013 charger is square and not rounded as the 2012 model was.

As mentioned by Eug, the pictured product looks like the AD835M1 AC adapter that came with the 1st gen (2012) Asus Nexus 7.

The 1st gen Nexus 7 required longer pins on the micro USB cable.
The included cable was a piece of junk: the inner cable and pins separated from the plastic sheathing after a few uses. I went back to the shop to get a replacement cable, which took some convincing of the staff as the cable supposedly isn't under the warranty. The replacement seemed ok in the shop, but after a couple of uses it too came to pieces.

The 2nd gen Asus Nexus 7 (2013) came with a USB cable with fully moulded fittings. Much better, but didn't have such a long connectors so didn't work as well with the 2012 model.
The bundled AC adapter (PA-1070-07) was 5.2 V, 1.35 A output and was a much more compact shape.

"The page you were after lived a good and happy life, but now it is no longer with us. That's ok though, because we have thousands more that are alive and just as great."

Heh! Beats the stock standard "Page not found" message.

  • Received ours today. It looks like display stock (already opened) and had a strange smell like it had been fumigated. bleh.
