Can you take the stickers on and off?

…or pull it apart for easy reassembly?

    • Why the negs?

      Its true, what's the difference

This is a speed cube. Very different from the crappy ones you find in bargain stores. In fact, many people who speed cube use Chinese branded cubes such as ones from Shengshou.

    • One hand speed solving the cube while the other hand neggs all of JV's comments.

  • I can vouch for these guys living up to their promises on shipping times. The last 3 cubes I have purchased from them have arrived 3 business days later in WA. Top service.

So this is copy of rubik cube? Or rubik cube is not a trademark?

    • -3

No such thing as respecting trademarks in china

    • This is not the original Rubik's brand cube. It has improved design so it can be used speedsolving. We also sell Original Rubik's Products here -> https://www.speedcube.com.au/collections/rubiks

    • Rubik's cube mechanism patents expired, but they hold the trademarks for the words and also the grid structure of the cube.

“The black lines and, more generally, the grid structure on each surface of the cube in question do not perform, or are not even suggestive of, any technical function,” the EU court said. The EU trademark is granted for three-dimensional puzzles of the same shape with the same grid structure, without blocking other toy makers from creating differently shaped puzzles that rotate in a similar way, the court said. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2014-11-25/rubik-s-cu…

The big difference that I see is that this product has a rounded corner design. It appears to have a technical function, which allows the sides to be turned even when off angle (over 45 degrees). However, I'm not clear whether that would be enough to protect the new design. Also, I see many other cubes on speedcube.com.au that would fall foul of the EU trademark, but I searched ipaustralia.gov.au and I don't see any trademark for the design, only for the name RUBIK'S, in Australia.

Will this help me pick up that sheela at my local?

    • only if you can solve it not just own it …..

  • A lot of professional speedcubers use Chinese brands such as Dayan and Moyu. I have 2 and my brother in law has 2. They're all excellent quality with slightly differing properties and feel.

  • Bought one after I saw the youtube of speedcube king in action!!

  • +5

I suspect its not the physical properties of the cube preventing me from solving it rapidly…

  • For that price I would expect Bluetooth!

    Proxy response from my son:
At a cheap junk shop, cubes may cost $2 but they are not made for speed solving and can't compete with a speedcube like the guoguan. Sure, you can buy a cheap cube but don't expect to get fast times solving it.

  • Cheap Cube, no Lube.

Great to see continuous innovation. Where's that bargain on yo-yos that don't tangle and strings to break when I Walk the Dog?

  • I was interested until I saw the sticker configuration (not all squares). Doesn't this make it less useful as a puzzle for newbies?

    • It's easier to turn this cube than to turn all squares. A standard Rubik's cube must be aligned much more carefully than this new cube.

      • +1

Oh I understand now - they are physically different, not just stickers. Makes it more a twisting gymnastics than a puzzle though.

          ROFL -WOT?

The puzzle aspect is identical to a Rubiks Cube. Think about it, sheesh.

        • @llama: gotta get me one of these gymnastic cubes ….

        • @llama:

OK yep thought about it some more.. you're right. One more Q - is this style of cube considered legal for competition?
