Flickr Pro - US$34.99 (~AU$46.38) / Yr (30% off)

30

I was thinking of signing up to Flickr Pro when I saw that the Uploadr desktop app no longer works if you're using a free account.
This is really a loss for the average free user, but they are offering a 30% discount to the Pro subscription by using the link provided (by clicking from the app).

Hope this helps someone.

Google photos: much better and free.

    • Exactly, people still use Flickr? The 2000s called…

      I flicked this ages ago.

For some, the differences between the 2 are worth paying for.

For people like me who shoots thousands of photos per year and want them backed up online in full res (I shoot with a 24MP cam), Flickr's worth paying for.

    • Yes, Google Photos is "free". Not to mention they compress all your photos.

When you upload, submit, store, send or receive content to or through our Services, you give Google (and those we work with) a worldwide license to use, host, store, reproduce, modify, create derivative works (such as those resulting from translations, adaptations or other changes we make so that your content works better with our Services), communicate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute such content.

      • They don't compress images unless you select to.

        • Compressed - unlimited storage.
Original - uses your Google account storage - free 15 GB or $120 (1 TB/year).
Google Photos is great for people who don't mind compressed images or if 15 GB is plenty of space. For others, it works out a lot more expensive.

The price has certainly jumped - my grandfathered subscription is only 24.95 USD per year.

    • I love being a Flickr grandfather.

An obvious move to get more cash quickly before selling it. They don't even care about what the user wants. Typical Yahoo.

  • I am considering upgrading just to get Uploadr - is there a better option for photo backup that includes a desktop program/app?

Google photos is browser only, correct?

  • Yes, Google photo is better off, I've been using it through my google app business account (luckily it was free when I subscribed couple of years ago) and managed to upload non compressed photos taken by myself and my wife smart phones (we share the google photo account only on both phones)

On top of that, I setup google drive sync on my media centre, so the files are also available locally, and backup this folder with Crashplan (just in case Google decided to do evil stuff)

Works like a charm for us.
