    • are you saying it's pointless to post SSD deals

      Especially since he's banned.

    This is a pointless comment

thanks nocure, i'm going to jump onto this as i've heard good things about them from a friend who brought one for christmas.

  • i'm waiting for 480gb or 500gb deals, 1Tb is too much for me at the moment.

    • +5

you can never have enough SSD storage

      • More is better even if you don't fully use it. There will be heaps more free space to allow wear levelling to do its job. Drive might be able to survive when your great grandchildren are born :)

        • +1

Yeah I don't buy ssd smaller than 1 tb anymore

    • +1

      Plenty of active ones currently.

Did you miss out on this?

      • +1

yep, i did, was focusing on getting my other components for my rig and then i realized that my 250g SSD is not enough.
So, i am waiting for some reliable and common brand deals, around $140 mark.

Wow, quality control at the bacon and egg factory has really slipped.

Thanks OP, been waiting and waiting and waiting to use my recently acquired 28 Degrees card to get a new SSD for the aging laptop.
    Legend!

Hey nocure, do you have a recommended HDD enclosure to put the old hard drive in? Swamped by all the choices. Thanks!

    • Aus stock if possible, anyone got a good link?

    • Try this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ASTONE-ISO-2566-2-5-Enclosure-SAT…
Got one about a year ago. Haven't had any issues with it till date.

      • +1

Thanks albert0pia, the enclosure looks pretty sexy too!

      • I think UASP / UAS support is recommended for SSD's in enclosures to get some speed benefits. I cant see that the linked one supports it. Food for thought.

        • Thanks @jimbobed, I'll be using the enclosure primarily as a portable HDD. What I'll be doing is using the enclosure firstly with the SSD to clone the 5200 RPM drive inside the laptop. This will be a once-off obviously, and then the SSD goes into the laptop and the HDD goes inside the enclosure (hence making it a portable HDD here on in). Does the UASP/UAS support affect anything when it's a HDD inside rather than an SSD?
          Thanks.

          @crouchie:

A bit off google info - "Compared to traditional USB 3.0 BOT, UASP performs up to 70% faster read speeds and 40% faster write speeds at peak performance. This is made possible due to the way UASP functions in comparison to USB BOT. UASP processes transfers in parallel, delivering data signals (Commands, Status, and Data In & Out) in dedicated “pipes”. BOT on the other hand, requires each signal to travel on the same “pipe”, taking turns, thus slowing the file transfer process.

Another benefit to UASP is the reduction of required processor resources used by traditional USB when transferring data. At the same peak in testing, UASP shows an up to 80% savings in processor resources"

        • Most ssd do trim automatically.

  • Why does everyone else get to make pointless comment comments!

  • Well… it's £159.99 (AUD $279.07) now, no longer £144.72 (AUD $271)

Vat is removed in checkout, so the actual price is like £130 or something, then add the delivery to get £144.72.

  • Hi Guys
any one knows whats the warranty for these overseas products ?

  • forget about hdd enclosures, just buy a SATA/usb3 lead now ~ $7 on ebay

Hi anyone. Is this suited for my macbook pro ?

    • +2

Yup. This is what I'll be doing.
It'll fit, you'll need to pull out the holding pins from the current Hitachi drive in there to hold it in place so it doesn't rattle though.
