I was having a look in the entertainment section of my local target and noticed a stack of large 47.5" tvs.
Not a bad price, has 3 hdmi ports and 1 usb, 3 year warranty, and has free delivery.

  • Any reviews is it any good looking for another tv in second room as think mine is on it way out.

Which begs the question - is it good choice for the price? With a super quick search I didn't see any thorough reviews… good price vs size, so long as the panel's performance is acceptable. Is it a good choice for TV? For console gaming? For PC display? Love to see the usual OzB comments re ghosting, pixel mapping, etc…

    • Hopefully someone who has purchased one can let us know. I'm very tempted to buy one for my daughters room..

    • Given it's price, you can't really expect much.

I would compare it to a Soniq TV at the same price.

      • Yeah JB hifi selling 48inch refurbished smart tv full hd for same price but 1 year warranty

  • Backlight adjustable?

    • -1

      Yes, on and off.

      • Humorous, but I find this feature an excellent 'barometer' for the quality of the TV.

        • You are asking if a $400 no-name low-res 47" TV from a chain store has a feature that is reserved for high quality devices.

Then you are saying it's me who's being humorous? LOL

  • Where does it says 3 year warranty?

anyone bought this or knows the detail specifics like refresh rate, ips panel?, speakers wattage and other imp specifications?

I might go to target to have a look as 48 inch fullhd 3 years warranty + flybuys points redeemable not bad compared to Soniq 43"full hd JB hifi 1 year warranty.

For 48" it looks like the best cheap deal around. Anyone know if DSE are selling their 48" for less than this in their fire sale?

      • +1

        no, it's currently $449.25 (with 25% off)

        • Thanks. I remember reading somewhere that they had to clear floor stock by 30th April. If true, that date is getting perilously close; should we expect larger discounts on DSE TVs in the next few weeks?

        • @notout50:

actually it might be 30% off now which is $419.30

@CVonC: just checked in norwood store in SA still 25%

          @notout50:

Went to Target to see the 48" platinum tv. Staff were helpful to show a quick demo out of the box. Colours looks ok and sound is as usual tinny. Had a chance to look at the manual for specifications. it has 10w + 10w speakers. Viewing angle is 178 but not an ips display panel. 75w power consumption. For some reason the DVD they played didn't look sharp on display (may be Sd not HD)

Also went to jb hifi then to see soniq 43" $399.. staff were not interested in giving info even though it wasn't busy. Anyways the display looked good and not sure about sound as it noisy in jb's. Soniq 43" has an ips display as per the specs and looked quite sharp with good viewing angle.

I won't buy form dicksmith coz if the tv goes dud during warranty, you have to bear the cost of shipping the tv back to them. Where else jb's and target you can drop it in store.

Am tossing up between platinum 48" decent display 3 year warranty vs jb's soniq 43" good display 1 year warranty

Bought this Target Platinum 48" TV along with cheap $49 soundbar. So far everything works. Reads devices via Hdmi, Target Platinum 48" TV, reads all the over the air channel including 7, 7mate, 7flix which my earlier lg tv didn't.

    Picture quality 7/10

Hooked my surface 3 via hdmi and watched lots of 1080p youtube content. Picture looks not bad actually comparing to other fhd tv but nothing like super crispy sharp like oled panels do you see in showrooms. But will do the job till oled & uhd contents becomes mainstream. Watched Netflix stan and has no lag issues or scaling, refresh rate which 60hz. Only downside is the UI software on TV is odd. Like when you change channel the details are on top covering half the tv and it's not transculent but solid dark black. The remote works well with nice soft buttons which doesn't need to be pressed too hard and no lag except sometimes when switching channels.

    Audio 5/10

As expected they are average but can get loud as it has 10w +10w. It doesn't have optical out, so used the 3.5mm line out to soundbar. It's alright watching TV but watching movies or tv shows get the soundbar(which am super glad I did).

Overall am quite happy with this cheap tv for $399 and 3 years warranty with Target is great.
