Is this the one made in Thailand? if so, i'll give it a miss.

    • Yes, just checked one in store. Made in Thailand.

        • The ones in Big W are made in Thailand too. Some aren't the stores all selling the same stock ie made in Thailand?

      • No surprise.

There are 2 different makes of the Sensodyne prevalent in our Chemists

The one made in Thaliand which frequently goes on sale (as above)
The one made in AUS/UK which is always between $11.00 - $12.99 and occasionally being on sale for a $1.00 off.

        The price says it all.

Is it still being made in Australia/UK?

I've used Sensodyne with fluoride (the green box) for over a decade, and it was a great product when it was being made in Ireland, UK and then Australia, but as soon as it was being made in Thailand, the quality was noticeably worse. It's no longer a thick paste, it's a watery, runny mess like other cheap toothpastes. It still works against sensitivity, but not as well as the older product manufactured in Ireland, UK or Australia.

I actually complained to GSK when I bought the Thai version. They told me to send the tube back to them and they sent me two (also made in Thailand) as a replacement, but still the same, runny, watery toothpaste.

I assume they did it to cut costs?

I haven't seen the Australian/UK made tubes for years. Not since they went with the "new and improved" one from Thailand. As soon as the words "new" or "improved" ends up on a product, it's never the same again.

        • @Graffin:

Is it still being made in Australia/UK?

Yes, however you don't find them everywhere, you'll have to buy them from Pharmacies and Chemists.

I assume they did it to cut costs?

Absolutely, if you'd call them they'd deny it and say its the same product.

        • @frostman:

Then why would GSK (here in Australia) send me the inferior Thai product when I complained about the "new" and "improved" product being worse than the formerly Australian/UK/Irish made product?

What chemists stock the non-Thai ones?

Perhaps it's only certain variants of the Sensodyne range that are still made here? (I don't know!)

          @Graffin:

Then why would GSK (here in Australia) send me the inferior Thai product

Because these manufacturers still try to shove their cost-cut products in our faces hoping people don't notice.
Also, the local produced one generaly costs 40% more.

Check out Priceline Pharmacies, they always stock 1 range of Sensodyne which is made in the UK and/or Australia. They're usually around $10.99 or more.

      Why?

    • +4

Does someone want to elaborate as to why it matters if it's made in Thailand?

      • Dunno but seeing how its OzB, its probably Eneloop battery fetish

        Here's my 2cents;

When a local manufacturer (in Australia, US, Europe) outsource their production to the Asian channels (China, Thailand, etc), it's generally driven by an agenda to cut costs.

This is more apparent when a manufacturer still produces the product locally and also uses multi-sourcing in China, Thailand to meet demand.

What you notice is, identical products have significant prices differences such as Shampoo, Soap, Toothpaste, etc.

You see Colgate Total Toothpaste at $3.50 and Colgate 12 Hours (bla bla) for $10.90

Somewhere there in the price difference is an offset of either quality ingredients, quality assurance, etc

          Flipping the old adage around:

You don't get what you don't pay for.

At this discounted price, I'm OK with lower quality. The RRP, though, is what makes the quality drop a contentious proposition.

Sensodyne Total Care Gel Toothpaste 110g $4.99

    That's $45.36 per kg !!!!

  • Thanks OP. Time to stock up.

Dunno, if you're using sensodyne, you probably want to use the type with novamin

    • I thought they all did. I bought the rapid relief one.

      • +1

I think all the ones that do actually say it on the pack - powered by novamin - and the pack is a bit different, but would love to be corrected as it would make my toothpaste purchases a bit cheaper :) it should say any of: novamin, "calcium sodium phosphosilicate", CaNaO6PSi if it does

        • Thanks

  • Thanks Monty M.

I just bought 4 tubes from sydney cbd store. Queue to pay was extremely long and seems like quite a few people are stocking up on them.

  • will buy 10 of them.. right time to make use of the last entertainment voucher

    • 11 of them to reach $50

  • Same active ingredient and cheaper (all the time compared to rrp) https://www.woolworths.com.au/Shop/Browse/toiletries-beauty-…

  • I tried it, and I do admit that it is richer and more bubbles which gives better experience. But I really don't understand how it is worth spending that much more… I normally just wait for Macleans high end ones to have half price in Coles.

  • Is this that much better than other toothpaste to pay that much more?

  • So many people with sensitive teeth :(

  • geez - this deal is hard to swallow.
But I'll be forever enamelled with the OP for posting this and getting this discussion going. He/She deserves his/her name on a plaque somewhere. Should seriously save us some molah.

  • all Colgate toothpast I've seen (from Coles) has been made in Thailand. For quite a while now. I didn't know there was an alternative.
