        I have cables but want a single wireless AP to cover the house. Have been using a Netgear wireless router on level 1 and an old airport express on lev 3 (via cable) but things get confused switching between the two

          UniFi gear does zero handoff a lot better - IE if you have more than 1 of them devices will switch between a lot better. But, in saying that the LR model has a decent range of 180m not allowing for walls etc, chances are 1 as close to the middle of the house as possible will do the job. But, I've never had a multi-story house to test with. YMMV.

      I understand your concern but when you will see the size of the package they don't even fit in a 3 kg package.
