Free shipping should appear when you are viewing your cart/checking out:

      • Thinking of ordering tomorrow. Which shipping service do they use for express?

        • +1

Probably DHL, Toll or TNT. Don't know for sure, sorry.

  • +1

Went almost till end but aborted as they said that my postcode is in regional area and will be charged surcharge. Went back to phone page and it seems surcharge is $33. This just ruins the deal.

    • I saw the same thing when I ordered. I live in Central QLD. But when I went through with the sale no extra cost was added. Not sure if somewhere along the line I'll be asked for that money but we'll see. I paid with paypal so I doubt they can just take another chunk out to cover it. I'll pay it if they ask rather than stuff about. I'm coastal CQ so I'm not that far from civilisation.

    • Choose Economy Express - Basic option

      • Yeah I did that - I think I understand it now. The default choice was the exxy shipping which would have added the extra on top (wow) but choosing the free economy doesn't need that extra. All's good now though as I was only charged the $273 so I'm happy.

        • Will only know in due course. I have had emails in the past from another seller asking for surcharge as DHL has got almost everyone in regional except one or two main streets in Capitol cities. Hopefully, this would mean someone else who has better definitions of regional vs city

  • Does this redmi Note 3 Pro support CDMA 2000 network?

  • +5

Finally succumbed to the peer pressure after letting it go the last time around for $285. Thanks op.

  • Does anyone know if you can change languages on these Redmi's? And to which languages?

    • Found this when I googled Chinese vs Global MIUI ROM:
Global ROM contains many more languages, all the languages of the countries Xiaomi officially sells products: China, in both traditional and simplified version, English (US), Bahasa Indonesia, Bahase Melayu, English (UK), Tiéng Viét, Thai and so on. The keyboard is the standard Google one, with also Pinyin available. Note that in Chinese version Pinyin cannot be disabled, while in Global version it can be enabled.

Many thanks any contribution from first users

  • I think this will be slightly faster than my long suffering Samsung Galaxy Nexus. The Nexus seriously struggles now with 1GB ram and all the Google upgrades over the years foistered on it.

    Ordered a Grey one.

    • +3

      It's not bad for a 2011 phone

      • Actually you are quite right (Samsung Galaxy Nexus). Still great specs except for the 1GB ram and no 4G support

A very well supported phone by developers for ROM's.

I've just got around to whacking on MIUI (ver7) and it's much zippier. A bit fiddly as had to fight my way through the Chinese and get a working keyboard.

Then put on Marshmallow ROM so it'll be a keeper as a backup/fiddle/hotspot phone.

  • Thanks OP….took advantage of this one- needed it. Much appreciated and love your work! STATION!

  • +2

Apparently due to the locked bootloader, Xiaomi Phones are now pretty much good to use once shipped.

If for some reason it is already setup when you get your phone (loophole for third parties to pre-install apps), just factory reset it, and the official rom without malware should be in place.

Although, you should always check the bootloader hasn't been unlocked by a third party.

    • How does one check if the bootloader hasn't been unlocked?

      • +2

Use the "fastboot oem device-info" command.

This requires ADB USB Drivers, fastboot.exe (part of android-sdk-tools). USB debugging needs to be turned on too?

Browse to fastboot.exe using command prompt and type fastboot oem device-info. It should state "(bootloader) Device unlocked: false" somewhere in the text if the bootloader is still locked.

Generally to get into fastboot hold the volume down button and power button together whilst the phone is turned off. To exit the mode, do the same. There is a guide on youtube.

      • you'll know. your firmware will have dodgy viruses and things, you'll have to wipe it and install the official software

    • The part I don't understand is that my other purchase of the same phone from Aliexpress came with a vendor ROM. How could they install it if the bootloader is locked? So the locked bootloader is definitely not bullet proof for preventing the common vendor installing malware.

  • Would this be be a considerable upgarde from a samsung note 4 edge?

    • not really, apart from the metal build and fingerprint. camera will be same-ish, performance also

  • would LG G4 be a better pick than this one? screen res seems lot higher on g4.

    • +2

G4 5 camera would be better than this one.

      • what about the screen?

        • +1

          G4's screen is better

        • +1

          @OzSikhs: much better.

    • +5

all u really need is 1080p for a phone, take a look at the iphone 6s plus. Anything higher resolution is a waste of resources IMO. This phone will have much better battery life (lower screen res plus massive battery capacity) and build quality than G4 (this phone is metal and thinner than the g4). G4 will have the better camera and bands support. Software is debatable, both are worse than nexus/ios. This phone also has a slightly better, more efficient processor. In conclusion both are good phones, but i think this is the better value.

      • +3

It's a joke when people think >1080p is needed on such a small device.l

The only reason higher res screens exist is to differentiate between competitors and people fall for it all the time.

        • +1

agreed. apple has it right (except their prices lol)

    • +1

Snapdragon 616 is considerably slower than the 650. Smaller battery too. Might be good if you need a larger screen and extra 4G bands though. Dunno if it will be updated to 5.1 or 6.0.

      • currently using 5.7" galaxy note 3 so not sure if 5.5" will make me happier.
but camera quality seems similar. not so good in low light.
probably just wait for LG V10 down to 400$ lol

  • is this brand new sealed? or do they have to unbox it and install rom?

  • so does this come with global rom? i dont really want to hack the phone to install global rom..

    • +4

Even if it doesn't you don't need to hack. You simply download the global stable rom from here and follow the instructions. It is as simple as putting the file in the phone, going to the updater app and selecting the zip file and then it will reboot and install the official stable global rom.

      • theres no need to unlock bootloader etc etc?

thats what some of the links posted here instructed. and it seems complicated.

      • +3

I have a redmi note 3, that came with the china rom installed.

Migrating to the global rom isn't entirely as simple as you've suggested. The method you described only works for continuous roms. Moving from the china rom to the global rom is treated as moving to a discontinuous version of the rom.

To do this you will need to wipe all data in recovery and flash the new rom or use the miui flashing tool.

+gembel But don't less this discourage you, it is still relatively simple to do.

        • Is there a tutorial for this?

        • Do you need to download a windows program and do this on a windows pc?

        • @macfanboy: From what I've read, yes. (But I haven't done this myself to confirm).

So Mr Macfanboy you may need to use a Windows VM or find a windows PC you can use to do this.

        • @yaziyo:

Plenty of windows computers/vms to choose from.

          Thanks

        • @gembel: I posted this earlier in the thread. It's pretty easy.
Follow the recovery update steps: http://en.miui.com/a-233.html
          Using Rom from here: http://en.miui.com/download-301.html

        • can you migrate from china rom to global rom with the locked bootloader phone?

  • -1

I think this is the same phone on Aliexpress albeit with slower shopping for $219.99.
    http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Original-Xiaomi-Redm…

    • It's US$219. Also it's $219 only for silver white.

    • Converts to AU $289.62 at the lowest. As expertreader mentioned, it's only for silver white.

  • bought a one. thanks OP!

  • +1

Just impulse bought a phone. Dad needs a new one so he'll get my hand-me-down LG G2 (still an excellent phone imo).

Looking forward to giving it a go!

    • -1

not sure about your g2, mine after 3 years it's not so sharp any more. Freezes at times, screen cracked in a corner and so many issues since…

But I can't seem to be able to justify $200 for a new phone. Mine still works.

    • +1

My G2 is still going strong. Hopefully I haven't just cursed it.

      • Mine too

  • Band 28 aka 4Gx from Telstra doesn't appear to have much effect in the bush. If you plan going off onto weird roads, the only one available seems to be 3G.

Am I right or wrong ?

  • Thanks OP…ordered!

  • This phone sounds like it's exactly what I have been looking for. I have an old 3 1/2 year old Samsung Note 2, which I have loved, but it is getting very sluggish. I've looked at different phones, but frankly paying $700 to $1000 is ridiculous. However, I'm not very strong technically, is this the phone for me?? Also, I've done a search for a User Manual and it would appear that there is no English User Manual. Does anyone have any link to find a user manual?

    • +1

Hard to think of any phone that comes with a user manual these days - unlike those old Nokias that had all sorts of paperwork.
Apple, Samsung, LG, Huawei, you name it and it won't ship with a UM.
Let's be straight here, most people either use IOS or Android (apart from the 1% minority that use Windows).
Everyone has a basic understanding of how the UI works and how to change settings etc.

If your problem is flashing the global ROM onto a "chinese" handset, there's is plenty of advice on this thread (Spectator has posted some useful links above) and there are step by step instructions online.
If you ordered the handset at $273, it'll probably need no changes at all.

  • I have jumped on board, though am a little worried about the camera which is my No.1 consideration.
I'm not expecting iphone 6s, but will I be disappointed in its ability to take snaps in low light and variable/bright lighting situations?

I am coming off a zeaplus M7 (sub $200 china phone) which has been leagues above any other china phone I have used (e.g. my wife's Meizu M2 note)

  • Bought one until the new waves of phones come out, disappointed with the g5/s7's :(

    • +1

im pretty impressed with the s7edge. first galaxy s phone i'd consider in a while, but way too expensive for what it is

      • +2

yeah its crazy how much they want..

  • +3

Can't get free shipping, did it end an hour early?

    • +1

I'm finding the same (i.e. can't get free shipping)

      • +1

I just tried to check out using paypal and it wants to charge shipping of $25.

        • +1

          ditto, oh well

        • +1

@eediot: I'm getting the same thing too, I sent through an email to th see if there's a code or something they can send to see if the same deal can be had after the expiration date. Here's hoping !

        • +1

It really isn't Express Post shipping anyway since the item still takes 4-7 days to get dispatched according to the webpage.

        • +1

@lpede5: let us know how you go

        • +2

@eediot: no go on a shipping voucher, didn't even acknowledge my request, just mentioned system failure in the final hour.

          boo eglobal boo

  • Since the link is for a non-China version does that mean I won't have to flash the Global ROM as it will come installed out of the box or will I have to get my hands dirty before I can enjoy it.

    • If it wasn't the China version you ordered then it should have the global rom and you're good. Check it if course :)

  • I ordered one before midnight with added instructions not to charge me any extra for shipping, as per the advertised offer. Or to cancel my order if they disagree. But had to check out at $298. Interestingly, my instructions did not print out on the confirmation of order email!! Typical. I then messaged them, also before midnight and have screenshots with the Free shipping offer webpage header visible. Eglobal, you better not stuff me around.

    • That's a big risk for a Chinese company.

    • Big risk.. But good luck. Hope they come thru.

    • Brave man.. let us know how you go. I admire your persistence!

      • +1

Success! My response from eGlobal re excess shipping charge last Sunday -

Thank you for your message. After checking on your order, as you have placed the order within the time frame, we can arrange to refund $25 shipping fee back to you as we think there is a small system issue before the promotion finished.

We apologize for any inconvenience it might have caused.

        • Ahhh brilliant! Now I kinda wish I placed an order. Well done :)

        • @illumination: Im sure they will only get cheaper with future deals. The strengthening AUD might continue a bit further too, you never know. Personally I wanted the LG G4 but procrastinated too long when Kogan had the $370 free shipping special, as it has all bands and a much better camera. My curiosity of the Redmi Pro then got the better of me together with the bigger battery.

  • Is it a correct assumption those weekly flash sales selling these would be a hoax(?) .. or I'd suppose many wouldve here latched onto [US$ 180]11999rupees=
    Indian 2100 1800 2600 2300 900 850 market model ?

    ( how to buy that?)

    • +1

You are pointing to wrong product. Here is correct http://m.91mobiles.com/new/mobileView.php?id=27393

      • Thanks. Somewhat downgraded or unlikely features on the indicated launch at June linked(US$195). Site dreadful for accuracy, scrap India.

No deviation of product (from a Snapdragon GPUs) browsing official http://www.mi.com/en/note3/specs/
Has new LTE B8 and B5 bands listed, further repeated at eglobaldigitalcameras, hopefully not for deception. Deal breaker for me if untrue. Will wait on owner reviews.

  • Curious if any speedtest.net result for this in 4G+ mode on either Telstra or vodafone.

    • +1

I was pleasantly surprised that this phone has LTE 850MHz (band 5) support. Most Chinese phones don't have that so this is an added advantage for Vodafone network users. Fingers crossed the 4G will work well with the recent Vodafone prepaid sales.

  • +3

    Anyone had theirs shipped?

    • I would like to know too.

      • i thought they needed 4-7 days just to get stock in!

    • I ordered Saturday morning, no shipping confirmation yet…

      • I ordered Friday early afternoon. Won't get shipped for a few days I'm guessing.

      • +1

Just got an email: "We are currently Packing your order and to be dispatched shortly!"
Though I was probably one of the first 20-40 orders, so depending how many they have in stock before having to wait for more to come in.

        • Around what time on Friday did you order it then, since I ordered one as soon as I read the email when I woke up
