Grrr! Just paid $290 yesterday on aliexpress…..

    • Same here.. :-(

    • Money waster

    • Is this phone that good? I'm actually really nervous about this purchase.

      • +2

        For the price- yep

Xiaomi is also a good brand, my Mi Band is working perfectly.

        • +1

Hrmmm I'll take you word on it lol.. I'm assuming it's unlocked too?

        • +1

@Da dpG: I'm not sure about this one.

But you're Maito Gai, you can do the impossible!

      • +20

This phone is the best I have with Android. It totally changed my perpective for Android. MIUI is done so neatly with perfect HW in harmony to go with it. I always felt Android to be a complex OS as it has the flexibility to customise pretty much anything you want. But after using MIUI on this phone I totally love it. Its kinds of a hybrid between Android and IOS that best of both worlds are combined into one OS. As per the HW its top notch and no lag watsoever. Throw anythying at it and it handles buttery smooth. Camera and screen are awesome too. Usually cheap chinese makes don't have quality camera or screen. But this phone has it all well done. Xiaomi is already making good customer base and I'm sure its gonna go a distance.

Edit: forgot to mention battery. It lasts 2 days with 30% juice left with my moderate use of youtube, chrome and fb.

        • +4

Perfect summary and reason why I bought the phone.

I have always wanted a hybrid between Android and iOS, as I have always felt Android makes the simple hard and iOS you're stuck with no change- unless jailbroken

        • Ordered!! Thanks guys.. this was a real help!

        • Thanks! I am wondering if you can change the language on this phone? Without having to change the ROM

        • @echan28: Yes mine came with English and Chinese only languages. I just switched to English. If you need other languages, you'll have to flash the international ROM.

      • +1

For the price is unbeatable. I've been using it a couple of weeks, and its pretty amazing for the price

  • Oh wow. I'm actually tempted to get this since my phone is dying. Would actually be really good for my GF. Her phone is dying as well. I didn't realise the specs on this were half decent.

EDIT: Is someone able to tell me the difference between the Pro and non-pro version? I can't seem to google it.

    • +8

      Pro is Qualcomm
      Non-Pro is MTK

    • +1

its absolutely critical to get the pro version, the price difference is worth it

    • +2

Pro is better. Snapdragon is better than MTK Helios

    • A better camera and chipset IIRC.

      • I heard that the camera is not good?

    • +1

Pro has micro sd hybrid slot, non pro doesn't

  • +1

I'm so happy I cancelled my AliExpress order yesterday

  • Does this phone work on Telstra's 4G?

    • +1

It should. Though it doesn't have band 28 (700) frequency so you won't be able to get 4GX, but if you're getting this I doubt you'd expect that :P

      • +1

        Thanks. Will pass then.

  • +1

Is this a worthwhile update form a Galaxy S4?

    • +2

Yes, just about anything from the past couple years is.

    • The only worth while Galaxy in the last 5 years has being none.

The s7 is the only worthwhile one and perhaps better than iphone

      • my mum bought an s7 as her loyal xperia z3 compact died suddenly, and it's an awesome phone. TouchWiz is pretty good (hated it on everything up till about s6 days). it feels really fast, calls are clear and nice, camera is awesome, and it's just an awesome phone overall.

then again, I'd never move away from my 5X, stock android is just muscle memory for me now (came to the 5x from the OnePlus One - before that I had a Nexus 4, then before that a Nexus S, so stock for life)..

  • What is the difference between the regular and 'China' version? I'd prefer the white color which is only available in 'China' version.

    • Looks like it has less 4G (or just incorrect) frequencies.
There does appear to be a grey one though: http://www.eglobaldigitalcameras.com.au/xiaomi-redmi-note-3-…

      • Found a tut on how to get from China Rom to Global Rom: http://en.miui.com/thread-235865-1-1.html
Did not see different frequency specs listed yet. Do you have a link?

        • I was going off the eGlobal site :P The China version appeared to be lacking the 850 4G frequency, but that could just be their listing as being incorrect.

Maybe they are the same. Which is a bummer. I could have saved $24 (I bought two)

        • @Spectator: Bought one now. Will see how I go.

    • The Chinese version has some Chinese apps pre installed. Also is cheaper.

    • The working frequencies are tied to the modem on the SOC. Rest assured even TDD Chinese variants will talk 4G so long as the chipset supports it.

    • I emailed eGlobal about this; they claimed that the non-China version was a 'Hong Kong' version, which didn't tell me much, to be honest.

  • +1

what's the cons of this phone without offending the owners already, just wanted an honest opinion. thanks!

    • Only cons I know of is the fairly limited number of LTE bands (namely band 28)
And, perhaps the camera isn't as top notch as other flag ship phones. However on paper it looks good, 16 MP OIS
and… OS updates might not exist.

      • +1

        There is no OIS

      • +2

Xiaomi do regular updates actually, weekly if you're on the developer build.

    • +3

      Cons:
Chinese market phone, so ROM may not be in english, and will have many Chinese language apps that may or may not be removable.
Bootloader may be locked, which can make changing ROM problematic
May not come with Google Playstore installed.
Phone does not support LTE Band 28 (700MHz) which may be a problem for some, especially on Telstra and Optus in rural/regional
      Camera performance is average

      • +2

The ROM it will come with will either be Chinese or a malware rom, you can flash the official international ROM form this link http://en.miui.com/download-301.html. Bootloader can also be unlocked but it is lengthy process that takes about two weeks. Miui also has frequent updates, just not to the Android version only to the miui features

        • The process detailed in that link seems straight forward. Have you or anyone here has done it recently? Does it automatically brings up things like play Store and other necessary Apps?

          Thanks!

        • +1

It took me about 5 minutes to flash to Global

Also, there is a method now to unlock bootloader without waiting

and yes, the global version has all the normal android things (play, all the google apps etc)

        • @Pacify:

Seriously only 5 minutes end to end? Could a newbie do it too?

        • +1

          @dajackal:

I think so? It was the first time i've ever flashed a phone myself lol. I have read some people having some issues, though they eventually get it worked out

The worst part is the guide is written a bit weirdly

https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2490483&… if you have any more doubts

        • @Pacify: Link to the guide/s to unlock please?

        • +2

          @fryandlaurie:

I believe there is a simpler way, but I used http://en.miui.com/thread-235865-1-1.html

        • @dajackal:
Took me longer to download the global rom for my Note 4G than it took to flash it.
MIUI has some very nice features.
Easy to kill any running apps (saves battery which is very good anywat)
Torch from lock screen is used almost daily.
My note 4G is 2 yrs old, and has no marks - build quality is fine.

      • +1

Any comparable phones (in cost/features) that do have LTE Band 28 (700MHz)?

        • Not really..
MotoG, ZTE Blade S6 are probably the closest price wise, but not comparable specs wise.

        • +2

          Probably a zenfone 2.

        • @fryandlaurie: Any idea if/when Xiaomi et al will start including LTE Band 28 (700MHz)?

        • @ryangus: Probably never as they would have to pay a large fee to unlock that officially (licensing costs AFAIK). Keep a lookout on xda to see if someone manages to unlock band 28. It was possible on the Mi Note before.

Another alternative for band 28 is a Huawei Honor 5X but it's only available in the US.

        • zte axon

        • @thirtysixd:

Despite the lower screen res, I'm really impressed with the wife's ZTE Blade 6. Might have to swipe it off her :)

        • @fryandlaurie:
          Good point

        • @fryandlaurie:
speaking of which, there are rumors the next Zenfone may soon come out, with SD 650

        • +2

@fryandlaurie: just to be clear band 28 ain't all that and the phone is still perfectly functional without it. I have a Huawei mate 8 with no band 28 and got over 120mbps download on a speed test the other day

      • The last two are the only real issues

The camera is ok, but nothing amazing. 100% decent for a phone this price though.

The band 28 is the only thing that might affect people, though I have no idea how much

      • One more question - how does LTE Band 28 (700MHz) effect rural/regional users? I head out bush a fair bit, so not sure if this is an issue for me or not.

        • There is no way you are going to get 4g out in the bush :) haha! 850 and 2100 are the most important bands outside of the capital cities.

          http://opensignal.com/coverage-maps/Australia/

gives you a good idea where 4g covers

        • @Pacify:
Thanks - this question was in response to Pete2's comment "Phone does not support LTE Band 28 (700MHz) which may be a problem for some, especially on Telstra and Optus in rural/regional".

Just need to decide if 5.5" is too big. Even my last 5" Sony Xperia was a bit unwieldy.

        • @ryangus: My comment was directed for rural users as that is how it is marketed by Telstra themselves:
"4GX uses superior 700MHz spectrum that can go further than previous 4G frequencies, creating extra 4G coverage in rural and regional areas."
          https://www.telstra.com.au/coverage-networks/telstra-4gx

Furthermore, and in response to @Pacify:
the Telstra coverage map shows plenty of remote areas (the HUGE blocks in green where there is no other network).
          https://www.telstra.com.au/coverage-networks/our-coverage#co…

        • @pete2: thanks, maybe I should go with a 700 devic. The ZTE Blade still seems a good choice to me.

  • This is good..
eGlobal shipping usually takes about a week rather than two or three weeks if ordered from GB or BG

  • Nice - free shipping was the thing that was going to make it for eGlobal.

    Anyone got a working coupon?

    • My understanding is that no coupon is required for free shipping. Just select Express Post.

      • No I was actually thinking separate. I had a $5 off one, but its not working.

  • great price! I got an email from them about the express shipping free for orders over 150

  • Thank you OP! Was going to get one yesterday through aliexpress but they didn't have any black ones available. Glad I waited!

As an owner of this phone I can vouch that it is amazing. Came from a Jiayu S3 and SGS4.

This phone is ridiculously fast, benchmarks put it on par with the Galaxy S6. Camera is a huge step up from my Jiayu, it snaps nice and fast, quality is about an iPhone 5S (which is still very good). Reviews say the camera is 'average', but they all compare cameras to iPhone 6S / SGS7 which isn't fair.

International ROM shipped has no crap on it, has play store, everything works beautifully out of the box. Screen is beautiful, so is MIUI.

Finger print sensor is very fast and a lot more handy than I thought it would be. Build quality and premium materials are amazing. Still can't believe this is a $270 phone.

Batter life is 2 days (much better than pretty much any other phone). IR blaster is nice for using as a remote control.

Had it for 24 hrs and so far I have not found a single con. 4G is blazing fast.

There was some talk that some people are successfully unlocking Band 28 (Telstra 4GX)

    • Hi mate, could you please give a quick comparison/your thoughts of the SGS4 and the Xiaomi? Thanks

      • +1

It's not on the same level, my overall opinion of the Redmi Note 3 Pro is in between a Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S6. it blows the 4 away. Its nice not having any samsung junk on the device too. MIUI looks neat and runs very fast. The Galaxy S4 and S5 still use plastic materials so it certainly doesnt feel as nice. I can't directly compare it to a SGS6 because even though the materials and cpu/gpu are on par with it, things like the Camera, display tech and overall polish in both software and hardware that the SGS6 does, its probably better. Certainly deserves to sit between a SGS5 and 6 though.

        • Thanks mate

        • Is out worth upgrading from one plus one? How does this compare to LG G4?

    • There was some talk that some people are successfully unlocking Band 28 (Telstra 4GX)

      Got a link for that?

    • +5

      it snaps nice and fast

Oh dear, that is what I was worried about

      • +1

yup my old chinese phone took like 2 seconds to focus and take pics and i couldn't stand it, it put me off taking photos. this one is like the iphone that just snaps instantly, the camera software even looks like an iphone.

        • +1

Thats why I love Xiaomi lol

They replicate iphone to a high quality.

  • damn…
    very good price.

just bought the Note 2 23gb version for $210 2 weeks ago.

so tempted to buy it just because……

  • +6

Dafuq. 4000mah with a 1080p screen…That must get some insane battery life.

  • +1

The only thing made this phone imperfect is NO NFC, damn the stupid CEO to not include it because he said only 1% people are using it. It means I can't put to full use my banking app.

    • Yes, last year they claim no use of NFC. And this year they did not put into their budget range with intention. NFC are available on flagships across the Chinese brands now.

I agree with you. No NFC and no band 28 could be as big as deal breaker reason that holds me off atm..

      • They remove in in Mi 4 and now add it back to Mi 5. What a shame, I really like this phone for the big battery, so disappointed, NFC cost is so little for them to put it in the phone.

  • What about this one from aliexpress?

    http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Original-Xiaomi-Redm…

~$244 w/ silicon case + DHL express shipping

    Thoughts?

    • +1

It's "Prime". Lower screen resolution and I'm sure there are other differences.

      • Haha yeah just realised!

      • +1

        Snapdragon 616 Processor.

    • +1

That's a Redmi 3 Pro (this is the Note). 5" and 720p, slower but still good snapdragon processor AND it still has a 4Ah battery. I think people have gotten 10+ hours or SOT with that phone.

  • SO ANGRY

paid $250 for 2gb version last week

    • got my wife the 2gb version last night in a flash sale for $215

      • DHL posted?

        • nah china mail :(

        • @xEnt: Yeah you will be waiting a long time! I couldn't wait that long so I paid the extra.

        • @GameChanger: same mine was TNT express and it took 4 days to my door, after it changed from processing to shipped.

          my wife isnt as fussy

    • I paid 234 for the 2gb about a month ago lol, though that was with china post

      • Pro version DHL posted?
