MSI GeForce GTX980Ti Golden $619.99 USD (~ $802.75 AUD) + $55 AUD Shipping @ MassDrop

100

Linus (from LinusTechTips) advertised this via Twitter earlier today: A MSI GTX 980Ti Golden on MassDrop.

Converting $620 USD gives ~$802.75 AUD + $55 shipping gives us $857.75 which seems to be a significant saving. StaticIce shows this version's minimum cost down here is $1099.

I've yet to do a bit more research on the card itself, as well as the comparison to other GTX980Ti's, but on the surface it seems like a pretty sweet deal. I'm aware that Pascal/Polaris (i.e. AMD/Nvidia's new GPU range) are rumoured to come out later this year, but it's a bit hard to guess how much prices will drop by then - my best guess is that general opinion is to wait until they're out before purchasing a new GPU.

One noticeable drawback is that the estimated shipping date is May 6th, so that means waiting a bit.

Just letting others know, you can still get a 980ti from this active bargain for ~$754 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/243320

Not cheaper than this price for this card though. Also, check the other graphic cards on Amazon DE.

I think it's finished now actually.

1080 thingy should be out in a month. Will definitely be more expensive (close to double) but depending on what you're after it might be worth waiting.

    Otherwise, great price.

I don't think it'll be close to double.

Yeah, not going to be double. When Nvidia release a new line-up it usually replaces the old one for the same price, and you start to see pretty heavy discounts on the previous generation. Expect a 1080 to cost roughly what a 980 did at launch. Unless significant gains are made in performance, it's usually a really good time to pick up a cheap card (you can also try your luck with a second hand 980/980ti from an early adopter)

    • D'you reckon the price of the current GPUs will drop once the new range is out? That's admittedly why I'm waiting.

The flagship cards of each generation doesn't drop at all, sometimes it goes up which is weird.

Not to mention various reports shows the cards will start showing up around July based on shipping records and not guaranteed to have the 1080s.

The nvidia cards willbe running gddr5x instead of hbm Which was the original assumption of double performance. It will most like be 20-50% stronger than the 980 but the 1080 card should perform either close to 980ti.

    • HardwareCanucks was saying about 50% higher output. I'd be very surprised if it's that much
