FREE AFL Live Streaming Via CrownBet. Every Game of The Season, Live. No Betting Deposit Needed

2180

Save yourself a Foxtel subscription or AFL Live Pass and catch every game live on the CrownBet app.

@Mods - Feel free to close this deal if in breach of the "gambling / betting" prohibition. Personally, I thought this is permissible, as no betting is required to access the feature and the post is not specifically about gambling itself.

For those of us without Telstra post-paid mobile accounts, this is a great alternative.

Works with screen-mirroring via Chromecast, but for the tech-inclined, might be worth checking this out to access the app on your PC in Chrome.

You don't need to place any bets or pay a deposit to create a CrownBet account, so even if you're not a punter (like me), you can access this for free.

Mod: Whilst this deal is via a gambling website, it isn't a deal for gambling or betting so we have deemed it permissible (the deal itself is for free AFL Live streaming). Needless to say 18+ only should sign up for this website and you may receive calls from the company.

No betting just access to your notifications and email (I'm assuming) to market to you whenever they want in order to cause you to bet and you open a betting application in order to use the bargain.

    • +14

Just use a secondary email address which you never check, like I did.

    • +6

or you could just thank @Catchy for his inside knowledge…

    • +3

Really, getting something like this without going out of pocket dismisses most rights to complain. I'd assume they wouldn't market much if any as people who bet with them would be inclined not to if they lost rust with acts like that.

    • +19

I don't so this is awesome. Thanks!

    • -1

Why would anyone go on Telstra from Ozbargain? They're so over priced and the only reason one should is for business to get that extra 'reliability'.

      • +4

You haven't been around here over the last few months have you? 7GB of data for 40/m ftw

        • can you link me please.. i actually can't find that on the telstra website

        • @Da dpG: The deal is expired.

        • Forget 7GB $40, late last year we got 8.5GB for ~$33 thanks to $200 joining credit.
Some of us got screwed around and sent extra credit in compensation, mine worked out to 8.5GB for ~$22/month over the 12 month contract.

        • -3

Neither have you. How about 10gb a month for $40 (Virgin)? LOL RKT

        • @Keef:

On Optus? Enjoy that, Mr Internet thug!

      • +4

What kind of a statement is that? How do you know the phone carrier of OzBargainers?

        • +5

I thought it was Amaysim as those deal always on front lol

      • +2

Obviously you weren't around for their Family & Friends deal 2 yrs ago.

      • I pay $50/Month for 11.1GB and unlimited calls and txt. Doesn't seem like a ripoff to me.

        • +1

Why would anyone need 11GB of mobile data? or pay such a price for a prepaid plan.

        • @GameChanger: I go through about that, Mainly because of music streaming

        • @GameChanger:

I don't, but it was the offer given to me. I know people who use a lot more than that. It is Telstra post-paid not pre-paid. I think it is a pretty sweet deal and would be hard to beat.

    • +1

I do for this year but as I'm on Telstra pre-paid it's unlikely I will next year.

      • Yeah I would make the move.

I'm not sure how their prepaid compares to the competition, but some of their plans blatantly taking money from people.

They probably do have the best network but the premium paid and comparison to other network performance there is minute difference.

    • +6

A lot of people have holiday homes, 3 girlfriends and pizza for dinner every night, but for the 1000s of us without Telstra post-paid mobile accounts, this is a great deal. Thanks OP!

      • 3 girlfriends? You're living the dream rawm.

        • +4

It's overrated, trust me. Can you imagine remembering 3 birthdays a year? Damn….

        • +1

@rawm: Yeah thats true, also Ozbargainer will be worried about 3x amount of gifts per year. Very costly business lol

        • +2

@GameChanger: lol true ozbargainer would wait for it to go on special and then buy three of the same presents at the same time

        • @rawm:
          Triplets?

        • +2

          @Da dpG:
A true ozbargainer would break up with her before her birthday, keep the other two and get back with the third after the birthday.

Rinse and repeat for the other two birthdays

        • @montorola:

Whilst using BOGOF deals for the remaining two.

    • -1

"Free" except most Tel$tra customers are probably paying $20-50 a month more than if they if they got an outright phone and went with a budget telcs.

  • +6

Bet365 have live Major League Baseball games and most NBA games. Sportsbet does NBA as well.

    Just need 1c in Bet365.

Edit: Forgot to mention Bet365 does tons of smaller sports as well. But a lot of big WTA and ATP tournaments.

    • Interesting. I was checking out NFL and MBL as it used to be reasonable, but they have obviously inked cable deals so now internet access is genuinely insanely priced.

  • I spotted this, when someone else posted the Free parking for Crown Casino. Does anyone know which one covers the PGA golf?

  • +1

    Cheers OP.

    • U wonder if you can watch replays?

      • I don't believe they would have the rights, as betting is really a 'live' thing.

      • AFL site has them for free

        • Only highlights.
Full match replays need AFL Live Pass membership

        • +1

          @froodh: You sure about that?

If you have Kodi, there's an AFL plugin that lets you watch all the replays (and the quality is watchable for a free replay) but is split into each quarter.

I haven't used it this year though since I signed up for the free live pass.

        • +2

@froodh: http://www.afl.com.au/video/smart-replay. Only problem is it isn't full screen. Just find the first event in the game - goal, behind, mark, etc. Then keep watching from that point.

        • @Porthos:
Mate mentioned Kodi but wasnt sure how legit or good it was. Would you have any comments / suggestions on it? I'd be looking at sport and tv but seems like heaps of plug ins and uses.

        • +1

@ShadyKritik: Yeah Kodi is great, and there are a lot of plugins so it's hard to see what's decent really.

If you grab the CatchupTV AU add on, it has the AFL plugin in that - https://raw.githubusercontent.com/xbmc-catchuptv-au/repo/mas…

        • @ApuN: I stand corrected

  • +5

You sir are a gentlemen and a scholar - thank you

  • You have to turn on location/tracking services on your device. I used it last week and it is ok, it hangs a bit and the link disappeared in the final minutes of a close game after I had to restart the app and I couldn't watch the last few minutes.

    • +4

Watching Ess v Gee right now, so far - no issues whatsoever. Screen-mirroring with Chromecast, and the picture quality (at least, in my untrained eye) is equal to and perhaps even better than the SD telecasts on Ch 7.

I imagine your internet speed would somewhat dictate your streaming quality though, so would help to have fast internet.

      • I have Bigpond Cable and get 35.5 Mbps. I watched a few games last week on my iPhone using my network and there were several times when the signal will just stall (rather than lag - sorry, I should have been clearer).

Could be the kids watching Youtube at the same time somewhere in the house that is causing the signal loss - didn't check what they were doing at the time on their devices.

      • this is via the crownbet app? the Telstra app is designed for a 7" screen, projecting onto a TV screen is just blocky.

        • Yeah, via Crownbet. Blows up to my 46" tele very acceptably.

Like I said earlier; as good as, if not better than the SD broadcast on Ch7.

        • @Catchy: What is your internet speed?

        • @realfancyman: 100MB/s, cable.

      • That sounds like it's way better than the live streams on the net.
Plus the less likelihood of getting viruses

      • I don't mind watching the footy in lower qualities. Brings back memories of watching it with Grandad in the early 90s when the Eagles were the today's GWS and GC

        • Or when the dockers were today's dockers haha

  • +2

    Whats with the 4 reports?

This is a very good deal that usually costs money.

    • +1

Im guessing people have reported because betting deals arent allowed on here, unsure of which side this falls on as you do have to sign up to a betting side but dont have to bet..

      • I have seen questionable deals pass through, given the requirements of this deal it should be allowed.

    • +8

People seeing gambling and acting to quickly.

      It's a great deal

This deal may have to go to the tribunal, and will be probably get 3 weeks.

      • +1

Don't care about the 3 weeks, I'm getting 23 rounds of live footy straight to my phone.

  • It is pretty unreliable, even on my home wifi. You get what you pay for I guess.

    • +13

True, you should of paid more for your home wifi, mine is perfect.

    • -4

Even 2G is faster than the average home wifi in Australia anyway. So saying 'even on my home wifi' doesn't mean anything.

  • For some reason I'm not seeing the CrownBet app in the play store?

    • +3

You have to install it via the CrownBet website. For whatever the reason, they've chosen not to host it in the Google Play Store.

      • +8

Google pay doesn't allow gambling apps

      • Thanks. How do you ChromeCast from your android? I don't see the button on the screen.

        • +3

Screen mirroring via the Chromecast app.

        • +1

@basilv: Got it on my TV now. Thanks muchly. :D

        • @JohnHowardsEyebrows: How you finding the quality?

        • @GameChanger: Not bad to be honest. A bit of a low frame rate, but picture isn't grainy at all. Only had one small period of lagging.

        • you probably have to cast the entire screen. Edit too slow

        • @JohnHowardsEyebrows: I haven't worked out if the low frame rate is due to the source quality or the chromecasting. Tried buying an MHL cable off ebay to connect directly to the TV but pretty sure the cable was dodgy, might need to buy another.

  • anyone else getting your crownbet account must be verified to watch live streaming. I have verified? 3 times, do you need to verify your mobile number too? i'm not getting their texts

    • Happening to me too don't know why, might just try again later.

      • +1

Pretty sure its because you are using fake name address etc?? When i rang up the guy wanted to verify my address on my drivers licence. had to hang up as i used fake details.

        • Strange, I actually used real details. I'll call them up and find out.

        • Yes- min needs verification too

        • @UNO: verification of email or mobile or both?
I verified an email address, but wasn't going to give my mobile number

        • @froodh: you have to call them to be verified! I used a secondary e-mail address that I checked. No e-mail sent from sports bet to verify account

        • @UNO: nah. no need to call. i verified an email and a phone and it works now

        • @froodh: I haven't received an e-mail from them. Did you get a text too?

Edit: just seen in account details you have to validate you account! Also contacted live chat to validate it.

      • Maybe ozbargained. I suspected jumping on this deal would be a gamble.

        • boom tish

    • I did this a couple of weeks ago and it kept saying i needed to verify even though i had, so i gave up. Went and checked a few days later and it worked. So i guess give it some time if it doesn't work and maybe that will fix it

  • +1

is there an equivalent for the NRL ?

    • +1

No. Crownbet offers this as they're a major sponsor of the AFL.

  • I assume these streams are relatively low resolution?

    • Lower but not as bad as some live streams on the net.
There are also no annoying pop up ads to annoy you.

  • Thanks OP! Anyone know a way to mirror this app via Chromecast from an iPhone? Am stuck, trying to find a workaround…

  • Anyone know if I can use it in Bali?
My afl app that I paid for and my Foxtel go app can't be used over here and don't want to pay for the afl international

    • +3

Lol, speaking from experience, even if you could use this in Bali, good luck finding an internet connection good enough to see more than 1 frame every 5 seconds…

    • Will only work with a VPN the same as your afl and foxtel go app will also work with a vpn when outside of Australia.

    • +1

      First time in Bali?

If your staying in the kuta/seminyak and legian area it's fairly easy to find a bar playing the footy.

Alternatively you could do what I did last year. Prop yourself in front of the pool bar and watch game there, make some new friends, eliminating the need for pee breaks and then losing those new friends

      • You will have no problem at all finding AFL if you are staying in the tourist areas. Most of those bars have more live streams from around the world than I have seen anywhere in one place. Adrenaline Bar in Seminyak is particularly good, with $2.5 bintangs it's hard to leave.

    • From the Crownbet AFL Vision FAQ:

Is AFL Live Vision available internationally? No. It's available only within Australia due to rights restrictions.

  • +7

"Yes…yes..fall into my trap, commoners.." - James Packer

  • Do they stream the AFL games on their site so I can watch on my laptop?

    • In the post detail "Works with screen-mirroring via Chromecast, but for the tech-inclined, might be worth checking this out(lifehacker.com) to access the app on your PC in Chrome."

      • +1

Tried this. Repackaged the CrownBet.apk, but failed to load it into Chrome. If anyone has some success, do tell!
