I bought this one a few months ago and love it. A very nice set for anyone who is after metric 6 point sockets.

Thanks to glengood for the 20% off code

Here's how the advertisers describe it:

This Sidchrome 21 Piece Metric 1/2" Drive Socket Set is a fantastic kit for the home or workshop. It has a great range of metric socket sizes from 8 - 32mm.

It also has the 1/2" ratchet driver, two extension bars and a universal joint to cover pretty much all your nut and bolt tightening needs.

The sockets feature Sidchrome's TorquePlus system to ensure maximum tightening force gets from your hand to the bolt being tightened.

The Detection Box case allows you to easily see if all of your sockets are in the right spot, whether it is open or closed. Great to help make sure you never lose any bits out of the box!

All in all, these combinations of great features make this a fantastic socket set for the home, workshop or factory.

    Was: $139.35 each
    Where is the RRP listed?

    • +1

Sorry, my fault. I've fixed that.

      Cheers.

  • Nice price. Good to be able to upgrade to a quality 1/2" set after years ona 1/4" set!

  • +3

User the code Save20 to get an extra $20 off

    • Thanks for that. I'm tempted to by a second set!

Looks like if you lose the long extension bar, you lose the handle as well…

    • +1

That's right: the long extension bar is the case's handle.

  • +1

Man I just bought this on my birthday as a present to myself.

    • +1

      You'll be thanking yourself later.

  • Are these sockets deep enough for removing wheel nuts?

    • You may have to use the short extension.

      • Or a breaker bar

        • The problem here is that, for some alloy wheels, the nut is down a hole. You either need a deep socket or an extension to get to it.

  • Is case of good quality?

    • +2

Yes, seems tough. The latches are brushed aluminium.

      • and the hinges?

        • From memory, metal pins join channels that are molded into the case's top and base.

    • the handle looks very solid

  • Link says 99 and online only

    • +1

Online only with free delivery. Use the attached code for $20 off.

      • worked for me

  • How is it holding up mate?

    • +2

I've only used it for a few small jobs (brakes and rotors, and a couple of oil changes) but it still looks fresh.

It's solid, though. I think I'll be able to hand it on to my kids, one day.

  • Great set, got one from Bunnings a few years ago.

  • Thanks OP, ordered one - hopefully they have enough stock.
    $5 join SCA club membership - $10 member credit + $99 sockets - $20 off = $74

    • Looks like they have plenty in stock. Hope you enjoy it. You've got a good price.

Tried to apply SAVE20 and got "The coupon you have entered cannot be applied to items already on sale. To ensure you get the best price, we have given you the item at the lowest price." Stayed at $99.

    • Thanks for that. I tried the coupon earlier today and it appeared to work. Sounds like they fixed the glitch.

    • Just had a look, the site still seems to allow me to use that code. Were you trying to buy anything else at the same time?

      • No. I tried again with all history erased and the same outcome.

        • Does it allow you to apply the coupon?

        • @Dalton: It allows you to apply the coupon and confirms its still valid, however it doesn't actually discount it

        • @fillit:
Ordered one just now (7:28PM) using the coupon and gone through for $79.
          Cheers

        • @fillit: Did you select a delivery postcode ? The discount didn't show for me until I entered a postcode.

        • @fillit: just tried it and it discounted for me. Make sure you include postcode

        • OK. Worked on desktop site. Did not work on mobile site.

        • @Dalton: still working

Coupon works for me. Great looking set though shame it doesn't include a breaker bar. Would buy if I didn't already have a big Stanley set which I picked up for half price a few years back.

    • +1

You sound like me, I bought a Stanley set years ago at half price.

But I bought this set last time they were on sale, (Fathers Day Present request - Sick of the Socks and Jocks presents, now I pick what I want to get, AND I get it.)

This set is fantastic! You can literally feel the quality when using it and it also comes with more larger sizes than the 99 piece Stanley set I have.

    • First thing I noticed was no breaker bar. Buying one separately (matching sidchrome) would probably cost half of this set.

  • Great price! However given that this is 1/2" drive, the use of this is much less compared to 3/8" if you are working on cars. If you have an existing impact wrench and 3/8" set, then this socket set might not be that useful? Just a thought. Great deal nonetheless.

    /feedback sandwich.

  • Different brands, I know… but would this be a better deal at $119???

    http://m.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/Stanley-Mechanics-Too…

    • $129 actually! My bad

    • No because it has metric and imperial. Ask yourself if you really do need the Imperial (if Trump gets elected and takes over the world then we might).
If not, the set is only worth half as much as you paid for, and twice as heavy as it should be.

  • How would this compare to the Stanley Black Chrome on sale from $119 to $65.45?

    http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/Stanl…

I'm keen to get a decent socket set for the occasional job around home but have no idea what I need. Want to get something that will last a while

    • In term of quality, Sidchrome is better. However, for DIYers or small jobs around house, Stanley is fine. I have similar Stanley set for many years now, no issue.

The benefits of this Sidchrome set will be: smaller footprint, larger size sockets and well-known for quality.

The benefits of the Stanley set will be: different type of sockets (deep sockets are handy in various jobs), 3/8" and 1/4" drive ratchets are handy for tight spots.

Best of both worlds: get both! :) or if you can find another set that covers all benefits + under ($65.45 + ($99-$20)) = $144.45 even better.

      • Thanks for the tips akatsuki and Dalton I think I'll pick up the Stanley one :)

    • I agree with akatsuki.

This comparison, between Stanley and Sidchrome socket sets, gets muddy when you start to include objective measures like quality and versatility. However, for the occasional user, you will find the Stanley set much more versatile: 3/8 ratchets are the perfect size for most jobs. If you're a tool guy, you will enjoy the quality of the Sidchrome set.

Both sets are made by Stanley Black & Decker.

  • Still working btw.

  • finally..bought one! not sure if I'm going to use it but hey, that's not the spirit here on Ozbargain.

    • You can probably sell it on eBay for a tiny profit.

      • as an "Unwanted gift"

        • One careful lady owner?
