We normally like to see the reason something is considered a bargain. A five dollar saving for a $135 item is hardly a bargain. Better to include the usual or market price. As a comparison, I found that geekbuying are offering this for USD 180.

  • ratphone is better.

  • Is this a good phone?

Edit: Obviously it's not a high end smart phone but is this an absolute cheap piece of crap or for the price is it decent?

    • +4

It's actually both, it's a very capable, fast phone however built like a absolute cheap piece of crap. I remember some people getting phones that didn't have the led lights on the touch buttons.

I got the P8000 which was a model that also had the LED issue for some. Mine was fine and Elephone's explanation was that they were well past their manufacturing drop date (2 months from memory) so made the decision to ship a few thousand out without fitting the LEDs! Having said that mine was/is a great phone EXCEPT the pretty crappy camera. Having said that, the P7000 has the Sony IMX214 Exmor RS sensor @ f2.0 vs the P8000 which has the Samsung S5K3L2 at f2.2 so you get a better camera but still not sure it's a very good one. Everyone comments on build quality but i found mine to be perfectly fine. Before people say, why are you talking about the P8000 when this is the P7000. The P8000 came out just a month or 2 later and Elephone make only minor changes in their models so are a good comparison.

    $AU price in title please.

    • Yen is better.

According to Rick, it's a little bit less than 1 Schmeckle

        • Don't you think free is better for trying out a generic brand phone?

    I had this phone.

For this price it's possibly the best phone you could buy.

    Things I liked about it:
    Decent battery life
    Great screen
    Fast
    Has 4g though limited bands
    Expandable memory
    Custom ROMs
    Fingerprint scanner
Cheap price (I paid $US200 at launch)

    Things I didn't like:
Took ages before there was a good stable ROM
Camera was crap in anything other than good lighting
    Quite big
    Build quality can be questionable.

So you did eventually flash your own ROM on it? Could you compare this experience to any other China Androids you've used, or is this the only one?

Also wondering, was the flashing/rooting/unlocking bootloader process for this difficult or time consuming?

edit: Just noticed you said had. What did you get rid of it for?

      Sorry for all the questions!

      • +2

Yes there are plenty of custom ROMs available for it on the elephone official forums.

Flashing and rooting is easy and supported by the manufacturer. There's is no locked bootloader.

I typically change phones every year (or more frequently) so that's why I bought another phone (Panasonic Lumix CM1).

I've also owned an LG G2, galaxy s3 and note 1 and Nexus 4 previously and the p7000 is still there best bang for buck.

$A200 won't get you much but the p7000 is great value. Just don't expect great low light photos regardless of the Sony imx214 sensor or fancy marketing materials.
4G worked fine on the optus network.

    • It says dual SIM in the description - do you know if the second SIM doubles up as the micro SD slot?

      • No it doesn't.
There is one full sized sim and one micro sim slot plus a micro SD slot too.
Unlike other China droids you don't have to choose between expansion or a second sim service.

I think both sim slots support 4g, but only one at a time.
        It is dual standby though.

Agree with the poor build quality - I got a elephone p3000s for my partner, it would overheat and shut down while using maps on the free way. I gave her my oneplus one, and then while I was using the elephone the screen became non reactive. I'd get about 20 mins of use the have to restart.

The elephone community were pretty pissed they never put out a fresh rom for the 3000s though.

I've had a $45 alcatel pixi 4.5in for months with less drama.
    Your mileage may vary.
