Clive Peeters Allure Blu-Ray Player - $99

800

First Bluray player I've seen under $100. Pretty sure Allure is their in house brand, so it'll be something rebadge.

      • Afraid we don't have a store there yet, but the location we frieght into ACT from was out of stock.

  • Just tried ordering online with shipping, since it sold out in-store here in melb and im getting

    a 2 month wait?…..is this correct?

Woooo Just got this for $89.10 over internet: pickup in store with the 10% Paypal discount =)
Went over and picked it up.
They said they have 20 in stock awaiting pickup but oversold 10

  • This offer is now closed I am afraid. Out of stock pretty much everywhere.

  • A warning to all

I put a Princo Disc in it yesterday was some old one I had with some AVI shows on it and it got stuck in the tray and would't open had to open the player and remove it and now works fine I have now thrown that disc in the bin :)

  • My player's broke ALREADY!! Have had it for less than a week and have used it everyday. Turn it on and lights up but nothing works. None of the buttons respond by touch or remote and no signal being received by my amp. And ive got a rental dvd stuck and its due back tomorrow! What do i do?? AARRGGHH!!

Open the case (3 screws at back) and gently push the tray open.
I hope you can get a replacement.

Cheers mate just did it. No hope of getting a replacement as by all accounts they are sold out everywhere. Probably just have to go in for repair :/ This is the first time ive had anything go wrong with something so soon. Guess this deal was too good to be true!

  • Yeah the same happened to me just take out the 3 screws at the back then the other 2 screws that hold the disc magnet in place above the tray and take out the disc then it will work again…

  • Yep did all that thanks but its still not responding to ANY commands. Lights are on but nobody's home! Checked online for more stock at Loganholme branch where i bought it and there appears to be 1/some. Am i entitled to a straight swap do ya think? I bought it 1 week ago. Im heading down there this arvo to cause a riot haha : p

    • My money is on a power supply failure.
You'd expect most shops to do a swap for early failure, but they do not have to.
It can depend on the wholesaler/manufacturer policy, but in this case (house brand) are they all the same company?

  • Brought it back but no more stock to swap it with which was no surprise but was offered money back or swap for a demo model with full warranty. Chose demo model. Its in perfect condition so was happy enough with that. Salesman says theyve had "a couple" back for the same reason as mine. Works fine so fingers X it stays that way!

  • Power blew up on one of mine. :(

  • Hey everyone installed the latest firmware of the Momitsu BDP-899 on this Allure and thought it worked fine and now just get the Allure screen. It initializes, then says bd and then just stays on a number. Tried to install the firmware again and so far no luck. I am sure that it worked after the firmware install and then later on it is now not playing any of my disks. Any one else experiencing this problem. Thanks!!

    • Um…. sounds like you bricked it. Until Allure releases their own firmware at least.

      Welcome to OzB.

    Hi,

I am hoping to post a new firmware here tomorrow. I am also hoping to post the existing firmware, but am awaiting information from the product manager.

    Cheers,
    Spelter

    • Can you post get source code too please? as required by the GPL, for the open-source derived parts.
(Obviously that will not include the proprietary DVD and BD code.)

I don't know if copyright means anything in Taiwan, but since Allure is Rick/Clive's own brand, I hope you are respecting copyright at this end.

I'm guessing the player uses Busybox? It certainly uses Linux. The source should include enough to allow people to add extra file formats, and even NTFS support.

      yours with bated breath.

      • Ahh… is that how you spell it haha Thank you!

  • Waiting with baited breath : )

    Hi all,

We have just put a firmware update for this model at:
    http://www.clivepeeters.com.au/software-downloads/20100428.r…

I am told the update fixes issues with audio via HDMI on the latest Blu-ray movies. I am trying to get hold of the original firmware but have not been successful so far.

    Cheers,
    Spelter

    • Cheers Spelter but i havnt noticed any audio problems when playing via HDMI. Played Avatar last night and looked and sounded awesome!!

    • Thanks Spelter champ dude.

Does this update fix the problem with forwarding at 2 speed and not playing some avi's issue?

      • Okay took the plunge and installed the firmware, but none of the above issues fixed. Still won't play the audio for a DTS full-hd blu-ray rip file without crackling. :(

BTW whats the Parental Control default password?

  • Anyone else still waiting for delivry of an acepted order?

I ordered on the 24th, the payment was processed and accepted with an expected delivery of the 29th April. Today I called the store for pick-up and was told stock was available, yet upon arriving at the store no units were available. Tonight the order appears to have been mysteriously cancelled (no refund btw)…..

Anyone else with a similar story? Should prove for an interesting follow-up on Monday with online ordering department (the words "binding contract" come to mind!)

    • Hi mja65,

Please can you send us through details at http://www.clivepeeters.com.au/help-and-support/contact-us.a…. We would like to follow up as this is not the sort of customer experience we strive to offer and would like to find out what went wrong where and ensure it can't happen again (plus of course get you your blu-ray player).

      Thanks,
      Spelter

      • Hi Spelter

Had already done that. Spoke to online help on Monday - they arranged delivery for yesterday. Glad to see online help was on the ball - confidence restored!

  • Anyone been the brave guinea pig with the new firmware yet? :)

Love to know whether or not it disables BD region changing…since it's my only region-free BD player (and I've got a dozen Region A locked titles on the way) I'm not brave enough to do it :P

    • I have and can no longer change the DVD or BD regions. BD is locked at B and DVD is 0.

      • Disappointing news…thanks for letting us know

      • noooooooooooo, now I want to revert back to the previous firmware. Spelter - can you also upload the previous firmware please?

        • I am trying to get hold of it but haven't managed to so far. Will post if I do.

  • Sooo glad i didnt update mine!!

Ok, sorry it took so long, but here at last is the original firmware for the unit as requested:
    http://www.clivepeeters.com.au/software-downloads/allure-ori…

    Enjoy :)

    • Thanks Spelter! So now we can safely test alternatives, knowing we can flash it back?

And what about the GPL'ed source code?
Much of the software is copyrighted, and the only way to get a license is to make the source available.
No source, no (GPL/LGPL) license. So you are effectively selling the units with pirated software.
I'm curious as to whether the bosses there care at all about that.

I'm not casting stones here, just asking.
Now I must go find some more mkv files :)

don't think there will be 3D capable firmware upgrade for this one…….
